My thoughts on future automated user moderation page 6 (locked)

Rules were made to be altered, mutilated, and destroyed by their creators…

Anyway, applicants would need 10 more “yes” votes than “no” votes to become a user moderator. Again, only votes from a regular user would count, and only votes from different IPs. Once the person has crossed this threshold (10 more yes than no) and retained it for an entire week, that user will automatically be promoted to a user moderator. Why a one-week wait? Trolls who scrounge together 10 votes from “regular user” accounts will need to retain that lead for a full week, and their name in chat/comments will indicate that they’re applying for the user moderator position, so everyone else would have plenty of chance to shoot it down.

What if someone dislikes this person? Get a couple of friends and knock it down. Also if there are any trolls (regular users gone bad) couldn’t they spend their time voting no for all applicants?

sounds like a good idea, i can see potential for people abusing the ‘regular member’ voting thing though

If this happens i think i can become a user mod and protect the Warehouse from spammers since there’s never any mods there.

Would user mods be able to become regular mods some day?

i dont like the regular users being able to silence people thing. that might get out of hand and someone getting silenced just becouse they are not liked or something like that

And I think it would be awesome if every time someone says a swear word they get silenced for 5 minutes.

Lol, I don’t think this is going to come :P It’s been about two years since Greg posted this. Besides, this system now is fine. There just need to be more nighttime mods.

If you think of the plan again, do you have any idea how many people would try to apply to be mods? Besides, if it’s the regulars who vote, they could probably appoint a popular user, even though he was mean and other things that don’t make a person a good moderator. Right now, a new wave of young moderators are being appointed, so many modless rooms will now be modded.

I agree completely, I’m sure Tasselfoot would me a mod like that and a few others also.

The moderator community has the opportunity to vote upon all potential future moderators. No, the users don’t have a say in our decisions and voting rights, so don’t bother trying to push a mod in a certain direction on a certain user. It won’t work, and all it does is annoy us that a person has felt it is their business to involve themselves in a responsibility that does not apply to them. And user nomination is fail, as many trolls have dozens of accounts at their fingertips, and I’ll not be having a random troll popping in to silence well behaved users just for their own amusement.
