The comments section, located at the bottom right section of every game page, is the best way to express your opinion about the game you are playing. In this area you will find tons of comments;some nice and descriptive, and others short and blunt.
Today, I’ll be teaching you all about the art of game commenting. It may seem like a joke, but game comments mean a lot to the developer and the community members who read them. Here are some guidelines to posting comments:
_______________________________________________________________
Guidelines to Commenting:
1) Don’t post or join chain comments. This one is self-explanatory. If you see people posting chain comments, flag each and every one to eliminate the chain for good. Never post a chain comment. Please know that spamming, posting referrel comments, or chain messages will result in a silence in your account. You have been warned.
2) Nobody cares that you’re first. If you’re the first to play, help out by posting something meaningful, not some lame “FIRST!” comment.
3) Don’t post your score, or badge achievements. This is something that a lot of people fail to do. Don’t beat the game and post “203,253 on the first try! 8D” or get a badge and post “Dude! You just got the (Badge name) in (Game) and 30 points!”. This is totally unnecessary, and it’s spam to some degree.
4) Avoid conversations and arguments. If there’s one thing that annoys me the most it’s when people have full thrown fights and/or debates in the comments of somebodies wonderful game. If you disagree with somebody, flag the comment and move on; Don’t spend 20 comments telling them that they need to stop commenting, because you’re just as bad.
5) Never post short. What this means is, don’t leave one of those “i liek it 99999999/5” or “it suzx 0/10000” comments. Make sure your comments are filling to the readers, approx. 3-7 sentences. At least if you’re going to post a short comment, make it something relevant to the game or it’s developer.
6) Think about your rating choice before actually rating it. Go through the reasons in your head of why you’re rating it that rating. If the only reason you want to rate Sonny 1/5 is because there’s a minor glitch, then don’t do it. Or if the only reason you want to rate Kongai 5/5 is because the card art is good, also don’t do it. Make a brief list is your head about the pros and cons of the game; Include things like originality, gameplay, graphics, audio, replay value, and many others. When you’ve finally come to a decision (Will usually be between a 2-4, being all games have something good, and at least one flaw) post your comment with pride.
7) Explain your purpose for rating it what you did. Always elaborate on why you gave the game the rating you did. If you rated it a 1 or 2, then name a good thing following by all of the bad things that made you rate it what you did. If you gave it a good rating, then name all the good things you like, followed by a suggestion or “needs improvement” thing.
Time to get into good and bad comment formats!

Bad commenting:
You’ll tell it’s a bad comment IF:
It’s useless and spammy when you simply post “Awesome.” or “Lame!!!”. If you’re going to post your opinion of the game, at least give a reason or two supporting your opinion.
This goes along with only having one word; elaborate. Simply posting “Rox my sox, luv it 4ever, awesome!” doesn’t do anything for the developer or the members reading your comment. As far as we know, you just like the game. Adding reasons and some organization to the comment can easily fix this problem.
The commenting area isn’t a chat room. If you need help in a game, the post first step is to ask help in the chat room. If nobody is able to help you, then either use the Kongregate search box or google to look for a guide on that game. If all fails, then post in the forums asking how they accomplished that task in the game. Be sure a thread isn’t already made showing you how to do what you’re having trouble with.
Just like spamming in the forums, telling some story about your grandma’s cookies in the comments area of Sonny is considered spam. I’m sure you won’t receive a silence for telling an off-topic story, but your comment may get flagged and deleted. Simply keeping your post relevant to your point should solve this.
Correcting somebody in a game comment, whether is be spelling, grammar, or accuracy on information is considered spam. You’re posting in the comments to post your opinion on the game, not act like the grammar nazis.
NOBODY WANTS TO READ A COMMENT THAT IS ALL CAPITALIZED! It’s really annoying and inappropriate when commenting on games. Even if you follow all of the guidelines, making it all caps pretty much ruins the contents of your post. Ofcourse, there’s acceptations to this, such as if you capitalized a word or phrase for emphasis, but still use cation.
It’s pretty obnoxious to go around flaming games and their developers, just because you couldn’t get past the first level. Most comments like this are usually flagged and deleted.
It’s very similar to a cereal slogan.
As humorous as I found this reference, it’s totally off-topic and says nothing of the commenter’s opinion of viewpoint on the game.
Nobody cares much about you beating the game on your first shot. This is impressive if you’re telling your friends or chat room buddies, but posting it in the comments of a game is just wrong, unless you’re using it as evidence to why you think the game is too easy/short.
Spamming advertisements for any reason will result in the deletion of the comment with a possible silence alongside it. Solution to this is, don’t advertise.
Of course, these are just a few I noticed, you’ll find much more interesting ones on other game. ;)
Now, how to post good comments.

Good Commenting & YOU
- Good comments are between 2-7 Sentences.
- They elaborate on the pros and cons of the game.
- They have constructive criticism.
- They may or may not have a rating included.
- They follow the guidelines I posted.
The first three are the main ones, now lets look at some samples.
Comment on “Don’t Look Back” (Average; 3 sentences)

You’ll notice that I clearly stated some things I liked about the game as well as something that I disliked followed by my rating. Using descriptive words to be specific about what you liked is always a nice little bonus. Simple enough?
Comment on “Bunny Invasion 2” (Long; 5 sentences)

As you can see, I explained the things I liked in the beginning, providing a nice foundation for a comment. I then went into detail on suggestions for a possible sequel. Then, I ended by summarizing and giving my rating. It’s length could have been shortened a bit, but this is probably the approximate length of a descriptive/spread out comment.
Comment on “b.” (Extra Long; 7 sentences)

This was more of a constructive criticism and suggestion post, but I threw in the things that I enjoyed about it in the beginning, which reassures the developer that it’s not a bad game. You never want to simply post on how it’s horrible. Throwing in criticism is important to the developer (To fix any problems) and shows that you’ve played the game enough to come to that conclusion.
