i asked a few people, and they didnt know, so i decided to open up the question to everyone, what is “watching a topic”?

It doesn’t do anything, because it doesn’t work and they’re not going to fix it.

IF it worked, I assume you would somehow be able to see when there were new posts in the topics you would be watching. It’s a way of keeping updated on the topics you find interesting.

Yeah, I assume it’s similar to the “subscribe to thread” feature in vBulletin (why aren’t Kong using vBulletin again? I know they want to keep the “feel” of their site, but I’m sure there’s a way to do that while still using vastly superior forum software like vBulletin… but the Kong team are busy, so we’ll cut them some slack in that regard).

ThemPark covered everything else you need to know.

They want to keep the usernames for people the same in both forum and main site.

They can do that with any forum software.

Actually, it works fine for me…any thread I click to ‘watch’ will appear green when I visit the forums..kind of giving me a heads up on specific posts I want to follow up on. I like it and I find it to be very organized.

I thought green just meant “New Post”. Your talking about the green box right?

They should really fix this. It would really help with the mafia games!

Users don’t see it, but Koko (being a mod) does. I’m beginning to believe it only applies to moderators.

No no..probably my bad choice of wording there…TehLegend is correct when he highlighted the fact that it is specifically for “new posts”...regardless, the green thing does work….

Oh, yeah, I see the “green icon” as well when I see a new thread. I think it works via cookies, so if you’ve been checking a board, it will show when something is new, but “new posts in thread” icons always seem to behave strangely.

But perhaps the “watch thread” check box works as Koko said—a way to sort of “make” the forum tell you when there are new posts in a thread by showing the green icon. I could be wrong, though.

Watching threads is supposed to work in conjunction with ‘monitored posts’, but monitored posts is broken.
