This tutorial will show you how to use the new chat. It will be updated every time a new patch comes out.

Chat Actions and General Information

1. The chat does not have a mute all feature. If you wish to ignore the chat, turn to another tab. After a few patches, the chat will be lag free, meaning that a mute all will not be necessary as long as you change tabs.
2. In the list of names, you will see the names appear in the order of You > Admin/Friends > Mods/Friends > Admin > Mod > Friends > Players > Silenced > Guests.
3. Friends have a little person icon next to their names.
4. Alt codes do not work in this chat.
   
   
   

   Connection

   
   
   
   If you are connected to the chat, you should see a green plug. If not, you will see a red one:
   
   
   If your chat light is red, the game either does not have API or you need to refresh your page due to a connection failure.
   
   
   For your convenience, the chat actions tab has been moved to the upper right corner of the chat screen.
   
   
   
   
   
   

   Chat Action Options

   
   
   
   There are currently 4 chat options.
   
   
   
   
   
   The Chat Action options change when you can enter a game chat. Switch to game chat and Switch to room chat are put into the list. Use these to switch between chats. Please be aware that you can not favorite a game chat:

   Changing Chatrooms

   
   
   
   Select this option to change your chatroom. This window will pop up in place of chat:
   
   
   
   
   
   Here you can see the room, how many people are in it, and which rooms you have recently been to and which ones you have favorited. Click on a room to go to that room. You can also sort the rooms by language on the bottom:
   
   
   
   
   
   

   See Friends Online

   
   
   
   Select this option to see your online friends:
   
   
   
   
   
   Click on the room next to that person’s name to go into the same chatroom as they are in. You can scroll to the next page of friends by clicking the numbers on the bottom.
   
   
   

   View Room Details

   
   
   
   Select this option to view information about the room. It is highly recommended you read this as certain room owners might post the room forum link (if the room has one), some kind of puzzle or game, and other important information and links in there.
   
   
   
   
   
   Here you can find information about the room owner. Currently, this room does not have any information filled in. The room is The Inconspicuous Cardboard Box. The room owner is Mostly_Harmless.
   
   
   

   Favorite This Room

   
   
   
   The final option is to favorite a room. Click on the one that says “favorite this room”:
   
   
   
   
   
   It will be added to your top room list. To remove a room from your list, select “Remove from favorites”:

Chat Tabs

With the new chat comes new tab functionality. The new chat has five basic tabs.

The first tab is the “chat” tab. Pretty self explanatory:





The second tab is the “game” tab. Here, you will find information about the developer and the game, the tip jar, and the instructions:





The third tab is the “achievement” tab. You will find the game’s badges and cards here. You can also report a missing achievement from this page:



Scores can also be found on this page. If there is a badge, you can click the “scores” option on the Quick Links bar above the chat.


Sometimes a fourth tab will appear. This is an alert tab. This appears when you get disconnected from chat. Your plug will turn red. Scores will not be submitted and badges will not be rewarded until you are reconnected.





The fifth tab possibility occurs when you win a badge or card. When you earn an achievement, sometimes the game will give you milestones to achieve. They will not provide you with badges, but they help with the motivational aspect of the game:

Quick Links

Quick links appear at the top of the game page.





Clicking on each link will automatically take you to the appropriate tab.

Rate

In this tab, you can also see who created the game, you can add the game to your favorites, you can report a game bug, or you can flag the game as inappropriate.
Please to not flag a game if it conflicts with your personal beliefs. This feature should only be used if the game includes content that is against the code of conduct including pornographic images, stolen games, or contains racial content.


Favorite Game (Clicking on this link will automatically favorite the game for you)



Tip Jar (kreds required)



Scores (If there are any. If there aren’t, it will display as a solid screen as shown below)



Share

On this tab, it gives you the option to post a link on any of the above mentioned websites. Your referral code is attached to the game link. From this tab, you can also send an email to a friend using the form provided. No email password is required, but you must insert a valid email address.

Game Description and OnPlayer Interface

As most of you noticed, the comments got a little flipped on the page. The comment system works the same way as it always did. Hit “add a comment” to..well..add a comment. Just make sure it is appropriate.





The game description got a makeover as well. You can now expand and retract the description to save page space.






You can still flag a game as inappropriate from this area. If a game is inappropriate, please flag it. Posting “Tis game iz stoln!! Remove it NAO!! U r a noob! Get a life!” will only make things worse and it might get YOU in trouble instead of the uploader.

OnPlayer Interface

The hover-over options have changed a little bit with this chat.



(With add friend option)

View Profile

When you click on View Profile, you can see the mini-profile of the person, their most recent badges, and their top 5 favorite games.

Add Friend

Self explanatory.

Private Message

Click this option to put the user’s name in the chat box. For example, if I hovered over Phoenix00017 ’s name and hit “private message”, this would appear in the text box:

Mute

Click this option to mute the player.

User Types

Common Problems

Chat not Connecting
Reinstall flash player and clean your cache. Make sure the ports are open on 1.kongregate.com
Game not Loading
Reinstall flash player and clean your cache
Inability to Log In
No known solution. The staff is aware of this problem and are working hard to fix it
All Rooms are Full
This bug has been fixed

I have a question. Sometimes with new games, there would be a ‘scores’ tab. I did not really care about scores, but this kind of tipped me off that the game has some sort of API so I could better guestimate which game would get the next badge. Is there no more ‘score’ tab or any other things that could tip me off?

If the game has an ‘Achievements’ tab, then it has API.

Oh, and congrats ES. This is a complete and useful guide, now that we have a ‘complex’ chat. You can now delete the out of date and quite pointless guide: ‘Change Chatroom’. ;)

Don’t forget to state that they only have the R icon in the room that they own.

Good Guide for the noobs, but if you would just play around with it for a while you’ll get used to it, and not have to read all that stuff. I believe it’s pretty self-explanatory.

Yes Razzi, I know how it works now. Many people (including me) said that if it had an achievements tab then it had API, but greg proved us wrong on another topic. ._.
