I was talking earlier today in AAA, and the number of bans/silences people had came up. I have no idea how many I have, and when I asked a mod to check for me, he said that there were too many to count. I would like it if user’s could see their own ban/silence history, with the mod who issued it and the reason.

Too see how much you have failed or disobeyed the rules? Pointless really. And it would ignite flame wars.

Major trolls might start seeing this as a badge of honor.

So they can check up on their personal history and see what they are doing wrong and need to correct.

Which, in a room leads to..
TrollA: ha i have more bans and silences than every1 in dis room!!!11
TrollB: no i wanna have more den u i gonna troll lots so i get more!!!11
At this point, these to troll as much as possible, in a competition to see who gets silenced/banned first. And TrollC might join the party as well. Soon after, the room goes to hell. O joy
This would work, if only you could see your record, and nobody else.

They were present when they got each of the silence/bans, one can assume…
Unless their “little brothers” decided to cuss everybody out on their accounts.
EDIT: @notverygood My point exactly.

Hrm, I see this in a more negative light. I think I’m gonna have to lean towards Katare’s side of this debate.

Just no. You know if you have been silenced, and the only reason somebody would want it to remind them would be for pride – which is exactly what we don’t want. I’m sure some users may take the other way – but generally these sort of users just need to know they’ve been silenced to be reminded.

Eh. Probably not at all that useful since it’s mostly just saying the date in which the ban and silence was issued, the moderator who did the action, and the reasoning behind it. Unfortunately, I’ve got one ban and a silence – the ban was back in 2008 where they didn’t need to fill out reasons before. But yeah, I don’t exactly think it would be all that useful.

And, to add to what everyone has said, there will be threads every day asking how many bans/silences you have.
And you all know this is really annoying, especially after Michael Jackson’s death.

Another point is that if you did add that functionality, saying what mod did each one is a bad idea, since it gives the troll a hitlist.
inb4 “What, Michael Jackson died?!”

If you really need a list to remind you what you need to correct, keep track of it yourself. Meanwhile, here’s a nice compact list of things you can work on if you feel that you’re silenced or banned too often… =)

I feel that it would be useful to see when you got a ban/silence and why, but not who gave it or where. If I feel that my account has been compromised, I want to be able to check my ban history instead of bugging the admins. It also gives a troll the knowledge to correct his actions or to see how bad he was in the past. Another possibility is also providing evidence – a snapshot of the last 10 minutes of time, kindof like how Jagex used to do with Runescape before the update. It also could allow you to more effectively appeal something if you feel a moderator has wronged you.
And you all know this is really annoying, especially after Michael Jackson’s death.
He died? Saywhat?
But what does this have to do with his death?

But what does this have to do with his death?
All the threads that popped up.
A lot of threads will pop up saying “How many bans/silences do you guys have” almost every day, just like the Michael Jackson threads.

gives a troll the knowledge
Wishful, but no. Troll are designed to do just that-troll. They’re not going to stop because they got silenced or banned. Unless they were a “sheep”
But what does this have to do with his death?
All the threads made about him dying would be proportional compared with threads asking “how many time u be silenced/banned?” or “how big u troll?”

Some of us have been here way too long to remember silences back from when we first joined. My account was made in July of 2007, I really don’t remember much from way back then.

Yes, and if you still had a rules conflict you would have been silenced recently.

Not always. I’ll share a little story from 4 years ago when I first found the internet. I was playing a game called Trash, an absolutely fantastic RTS game. However, at the time, I didn’t care about my spelling, and I quite simply didn’t know the concept of spamming, it being completely new to me. So, I spammed on the forums. I got banned three times, not realizing that I was spamming. But now look at me. If I can change, I’m sure all of the other underage trollers can change. Giving them the means to see how many bans they have can let them sit down and think “Man, I’ve been doing something wrong. If I want to stay on this site, then I have to change my ways.”

So it eggs trolls on to do what the normally do? They get banned quicker that way. Yay?

Many people are banned for reasons that they do not know.
I had not been on the original account, Yargabarga for about a week. I returned, and to my surprise, it got a perma-ban.
I still don’t know why.
