Note: I think I have made this as easy as possible. It took a lot of time but I finally managed to do it.

Using Non-Breaking Spaces in your Profile by Dragon_of_Ra

1: You will need a text editor, such as Notepad++

Installation Guide

Click here to access the download page and to read how to download it.

Select whichever one you want to download. Either the executable file or the zipped files. I recommend downloading the executable files.

1: Go Here:
2: Click “npp.5.4.5.Installer.exe”
3: A window should pop up, click “Save File”
4: Once it downloads, double-click it in the Downloads window(Mozilla, Safari, Opera, and there will be a little toolbar in Google Chrome on the bottom)
5: Click “OK” when a window comes up that says “Open Executable File?”
6: Another window should come up, click “Run”.
7: Select your language of preference.
8: Keep clicking next until it says “Check the components you want to install…”. And…do what it tells you to do. Check the boxes that you want to install, I installed all of them.
9: Click Install.
10: ???
11: PROFIT!

2: Open the text editor. Once you have it installed click File>New

IMPORTANT NOTE: Change the format of the text to UTF-8 by clicking Format>UTF-8 on the toolbar.

FOR VISTA AND XP:

If you’re on Vista then if should be a piece of cake.

Now when you are in the text editor Type Alt 0160. (Press the alt key and hold it down, and press 0160 on the NUMPAD).

Now, you will get a space. Instead of doing Alt0160 100 times manually, you can highlight that little space, and COPY (ctrl c) and PASTE (ctrl v).

Copy and paste that 100 times.

Insert that copied line to your profile, where-ever you want spaces. :)

That should look like this:

Enjoy, Any questions, Please don’t hesitate to ask. :D

FOR MAC

I really don’t know…I don’t have a mac and I don’t plan on getting one, so if anyone wants to write a tutorial on how to do it, feel free to. :)

Also watch this guy’s video’s, they’re hilarious.

Nice guide, but a few questions. Is that thingy compatible with IE8? Also, what about us using a laptop? D:

I’m using a PC. What thingy are you talking about? I use Mozilla but I had to use Safari because they have those thingy’s in the bottom right hand corner that expand, making it easier to see and read.

Laptops lack a numpad, they just have them at the top above the letters =(

That “thingy” is the “thingy” you made the thread about. The thing you need to download.

Notepad++ is a completely separate text editor application, nothing to do with your web browser.

Oh, it’s not an add on of any sort, it’s a separate program, so…yeah, it will work with IE8 just do every step properly and it will work, check my profile.

EDIT: NINJA’D. I forgot to pres submit 10 minutes ago because I was busy playing TSG: M. .

how does this appear when someone views your profile from within chat?

PS: you can do textarea resizing in Firefox with an extension or greasemonkey script.

Why should one download Notepad++? You don’t need a text editor at all…
Just go to Start → Programs → Accessories → System Tools → Character Map, select the non-breaking space, double click + copy it and paste it in your profile…

To Spont: If you’re doing it right it looks the same in your chat profile :P

I just wanted to test this and it doesn’t work for me – I have made several tests

I tested it once and it worked :P Are you sure you selected the non-breaking space? Also for some reason pasting it in the input field in the Character Map and then copying it again doesn’t work, so after copying it you have to directly paste it into your profile.

;_; no way to do it for a Mac?

I would recommend using notepad++ to take your old profile and change all the spaces… since it has a find/replace feature that actually works properly.

Don’t forget you also need to put them at the end of short lines, otherwise they’ll break.

Another way to do this that should work is to type a0 into notepad and then press ctrl-x. I can’t test that myself, though.

@Nabb: mysteriously they are changed to   on the kongregate server. They didn’t used to be, I don’t know when that started happening.

Just copy a non-breaking space from OSX’ character map (assuming OSX has one, but I don’t see why it shouldn’t have one) or any other place? :P

Thanks for telling. I have no idea what Ventero is talking about, I am assuming OSX is some MAC system or something… If you have any questions about the way I do it with Notepad++, please ask. Other questions about OSX and all that…I’m sorry I don’t know. :’(

Yes, I copied the non-breaking space (00a0)

Make a visual example – I still can’t make it work

…Just double-click the nbsp, click the “Copy”-button, open the “edit profile”-page with your browser and press/hold Ctrl-V. I don’t see why you would need a visual example.

But that’s what I have done all the time – with no luck so far :’( cries for real nao

Edit: Sorry, I failed to read DoR’s 1st post properly, I figured out my mistake :)

Or what you can do is check you the source code for Dragon’s page and copy and paste the line that has his break. Thats what I did.
