Take a look at this website, it’s a blatant copy of Kongregate. For 1/2 a second I thought it was Kong in double take fashion.
http://www.nonoba.com/404/bridgerunner
Let’s see: Game, chat to the right, 5 star votes, instruction/author description, user comments, acheivments(with “xp”).
The front page is again similar, “Nonoba recommends”, newest games etc. It doesn’t even try to be subtle. Even the Login or Register for chatting notice looks similar.

They’re much newer, the copyright message says 2007-2008. |

Well it pretty much is a copy
Kong is still better though.
Just proves how good Kong really is |

How do I find achivements? :O
Kongregate is better. They have no card challenges. :) |

Yeah, I’ve seen this site before; its a pretty close copy. “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” :) |

I’ve seen one of the site developers post elsewhere saying that they didn’t see Kongregate until after they’d designed the site.
Whether this is true or not I don’t know, but to be fair a lot of the similarities are kind of the obvious way of doing things. And often when you look closely they are about as different as they can be.
Let’s see: Game, chat to the right, 5 star votes, instruction/author description, user comments, acheivments(with “xp”).
- * chat to the right – well it has to be left or right since there isn’t as much space above & below, and right seems more appropriate.
- * 5 star votes. Most sites with voting do some variation on this. Kong wasn’t the first.
- * instruction/author description – um, versus what? their absence?
- * user comments – v. their absence, again?
- * achievements (remember – i before e except after c) again, this is something which is sort of either present or not, and more likely to be there for sites trying to build a community.
I can go on.
- * Nonoba recommends – are you saying they shouldn’t do this obvious thing?
- * logging in – well what do you expect from a log in screen? Most of the internet does something like that.

It’s not that those things are there Lysis, it’s that they’re very VERY similar to Kongregate’s design and wording and layout. |

Like any of those things are new. I’ve seen dozens of similar sites come and go over the years; kongregate is much like all the others that came before it. |

To be honest, they do have a few features that Kongregate could do with. For instance, a faster method of finding out what games other people are playing, like just having it in the upper half of the chat window, is a feature I’ve been wishing Kongregate had for a while now. Having to hover over their name is kind of irritating.
That, or display the game when you hover over their name in the lower chat box, as well as the upper box. This would be really useful for those people who don’t seem to realize we’re not all playing the same game and just randomly ask “How do you beat level five?”
Also, a random game feature would be appreciated for when I want something new. |

Sugar, flour and oil have all been around for ages too. Its how they are blended in a recipe that makes the result unique. |

Don’t really like this site at all. Ugly, mean users and almost all the ideas are taken right from here. I do suggest we “borrow” their idea of customisable profiles. That would be neat. |

I signed up and made a campaign about Kong being better quite some time ago, I think it was a success… well, not.
Wow, that site picks the worst games to achievements for… they made three for a game with an average rating of 2. Nonoba has a messy layout, and there isn’t even a place for all the achievments. |

That reminds me. Going to their site, and telling the users it’s a rip-off is just plain rude, and pointless. It appears their weak userbase will destroy them anyway. I would suggest we don’t return there. It’ll probably be gone in a couple of months. |

Or at least make profiles textile friendly, because you can’t even format your “about me” at the moment. |

Hey, why are you guys so negative? It may be inspired (oh well, copied) from Kongregate, but that doesn’t mean you must blame it.

Developer makes achievements for his own games.

The layout is fresh for me, but really messy. I talked with the owner, and he’s working on the achievements page (at least that’s what he said).
However, I still agree Kongregate is better. |

It seems they tolerate users uploading games they haven’t made? Can anyone confirm that?
EDIT: I guess this is their stance on uploading distributable web games (not stolen ones): http://www.nonoba.com/forum/games/games-stolen. I guess its technically ok, but I don’t care for it, since its under a user profile. I prefer Kongregate’s policy.
One thing that site does better than Kong is load time!
With only 215 users online in 4 of 6 chat rooms (in contrast with Kong’s peak of 10,000) I’m not surprised. Put 215 users on Kong and it’d be blazing XD

In some ways, I like that. |

Developers making achievements for their own games isn’t a bad idea, but it would make points and levels be worth SO MUCH LESS, as anyone with Flash could get any level they wanted (though I guess they have preventive measures for that). |
