I found that they don’t disable Mochiads,so I’ll put my game on there.
Don’t worry,I still like Kong, but since I’m a developer so I have to try to spread my games. LOL
(Nonoba layout is really bad……)

But the point is, they’re not.
And some more differences. Nonoba can save game-state. People have been asking for this on Kong since… well, since ever. And K. decided not to (giving the reason that it would create more work and problems for developers than it solved). N. obviously made the opposite decision. Basically they’re utterly, utterly different. What is making them look similar in your eyes is that Kong and Nono are both aiming to build a community, while most flash games portals are not. So they are clustering to different areas of functionality. And to be honest, in some ways I prefer Nonoba’s way of doing things. Kong (well, Greg mainly) picks the games to highlight in various ways, and those games get the chance to do really well, while other games basically languish. I really try not to be bitter about this, but there’s basically no way to drive people to play your game – it’s out of your hands. With Nonoba, you can at least do something. I’m not saying N. is better, just that it’s different. Probably, Nonoba’s way of doing it won’t scale. The dross also gets achievements, so probably you’re not better off. Its a real shame; maybe there is a middle way which Kong could work towards… |

Well, imo, it’s more like the number of game plays a game gets corresponds to, in general, how the community of Kong thinks how good it is. You have the 200 or so people who look at the recent games and rate them. The highest rated ones (err, that IS how they pick it, right?) get put on the “hot new games” list, which boost their game play to in the 1000s. If it’s really good, then it might even get badges or a card. However, I will admit there are flaws. I have seen really really good games get un-noticed (and piu-piu is fricken awsome). It would be nice if the “Greg’s picks” were updated more often, or even if there was some sort of “random game” list. |

I was just playin a game on nonoba.com (dont hurt me) and i saw 1 of the sponsors 4 the game was Kongregate.com |
Thanks for liking Piu Piu. But I definitively know Greg knows about it, because he sponsored it. :-) The problem with the highest rated thing is that it assumes that everybody votes the same. I think the current system works to the extent that assumption holds, which it doesn’t for some games. Its entirely Kongs perogative to do it how it likes – but it kind of bugs me that some games get lots of badges while a lot of worthy games have none. |

The big issue in my mind is that although they are SLIGHTLY different aesthetically, they stole the API from Kongregate (They even named it API). As far as I can tell, they took the Kongregate API and tweaked it to work on their site. I am pretty sure that is totally illegal. |
API stands for Application Programming Interface, it’s a general development term and has nothing to do with Kongregate specifically. |
Mils, I don’t think they stole anything from Kongregate as far as the API goes. Its a pretty standard practice and as garin pointed out, “API” is a term, not anything Kongregate came up with. |
The API was still stolen from us. One of the users even admitted that for the API, they took ours saying it was “freeware.” I am pretty sure it is illegal for their site to use our specific API for their purposes. |
Hmm…We’ve got so many topics about nonoba. Should we somehow merge them? |
It also has ‘Fans’ and ‘Friends’ |
2 words. LEGAL ACTION!!! |

Hey guys you got to stop acting like trolls on their site, it doesn’t reflect well of what the Kongregate community represents. Looking at their chat rooms it just shows how immature some of our Kongregate users are, which is pretty sad. This in turn will (or has) create more friction between the sites and developing in trolls in some of Kongregate’s chat rooms. So if you don’t like their site don’t go there, the ones that are complaining and trolling on their website would not encourage anyone to join Kongregate with the behavior displayed. When I originally joined Kongregate has always been such a nice community and hope the people that are registering on Nonoba that do these things know they are representing Kongregate whether is good or bad. |

Most games are “developed” by “developers” who incredibly “developed” myriad games. They “changed” their names too. What’s up with the game moderation?
Well, some games are allowed to go outside their sponsor site. Not a big deal, considering Armor Games’ jmtb02 uploading his own games at Newgrounds, Kongregate, Hallpass and other sites.
Kongregate didn’t patent it and many sites even have those things. Hallpass does it too!
Those words are not copyrighted. |
my point was that thats another reason why it could be a copy… |
Sorry, Ronin. I knew I went too far. (They provoked us…I swear…You believe me right?) And here’s my blog entry :D http://kongregatesp3000.blogspot.com/2008/03/kongregate-vs-nonoba-its-war-d.html (I wnet a little insane writing this too) |
Sp3000. You have me all wrong. I was by no means going there to flame, troll or spam. I was simply investigating the site, looking for stolen games. I only started even mentioning Kongregate after Milski asked if I was from here. Please, don’t get me involved in this. I didn’t say mean things about their site. Only that stealing games was illegal and they could get sued. I didn’t even stay around for that long. I left before this alleged spamming that Swish supposedly did. |
I never said you spammed :) |
However, the specific Kongregate API, which one of them said they used, is copyrighted to Kongregate as their intellectual property. Theft of it would be against the Kongregate terms of service and intelectual property theft (if it really was that particular API). |
It depends on the servers and the programming language they programmed in. Well, the only thing you can sue them is that they have quite a number of stolen games. |
You cannot copyright an API. You can only copyright a specific piece of software. |
both sides are not much alike there all just game websites. When you say copy I think more of them really copying like there adress if www.kongregate2.com |
Asuffield, if you can copyright applications like Microsoft word, you can copyright an API. Kongregate even says they have the intellectual property rights to their API and that it cannot be used off of Kong. |
I’m not sure if anyone except for me and a few others witnessed one of their members spamming on our site… if you haven’t heard, there were about 50 of those ‘NONOBA IS NOT A COPY’ threads on each section. |
No. Copyright law is very clear on this subject. Only a very limited range of things can be copyrighted. A piece of software can be. A property of a piece of software, like an API, cannot be.
