@Lysis: Thank you for the in-depth analysis. :-)
@milskidasith: I don’t know who told you what about the Nonoba API, but you’re clearly misinformed. Let me clear some things up.
If you want to put your game on Nonoba and submit highscores or achievements, you have to embed a piece of ActionScript code into your game which gives you access to a few functions (The API) that allows you to do just that. This piece of code that you embed is developed by Nonoba, copyrighted by Nonoba, and it can only do submitting of data to the Nonoba servers. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Kongregate API, which is another piece of ActionScript code, developed by Kongregate, copyrighted by Kongregate, and that can submit data to the Kongregate servers. The only thing they have in common is that they’re both APIs that you can embed in your flash game.
You can’t use the Nonoba API to submit data to the Kongregate servers, and you can’t use the Kongregate API to submit data to the Nonoba servers, and you can’t use either to submit data to http://www.ugengames.com/ or http://www.mochibot.com/

I have! well… sort of (in a technically no you didn’t way). Basically I realised that I could build a wrapper to use the kong API hooks (that is – not the API at all, really) to convert Kong API calls to Nonoba API calls. Read all about my journey of pain in the Nonoba developer forums.
And if you really, really want, you can see the achievements on Nonoba’s version of Big Fish. I’m dead proud of them.
(This really doesn’t contradict what Henrik says above – I just made a translater from one API to the other. I had a reason for doing this which is described in the first link above)

Henrik, just to tell you, I got my information from multiple users in your chatrooms, most of whom were “developers” (that is to say freeware mongers). So the problem of information falls with your users, not mine. All of my API theft claims were based on that, and in most of them I mentioned that I had heard it from your users and couldn’t be sure.

mils, you now know that the claims of API theft were completely and totally false and that you vehemently claimed they were true and said we should pursue legal action even after arcane (who helped develop Kong’s API) said differently. Please do not justify this by saying it is the fault of the Nonoba users. Also, don’t insult their devs. How many mouse avoiders or one button click games have been uploaded by our users for a D. Please show some respect and accept the fact that you were wrong on this issue.

Don’t like it. Tried it, it looks more fancy, but the games lagged and it was somewhat “unclear”. (You don’t get notice when you complete achievement.) I will stay with Kong.

Well, for those of you who didn’t know when Nonoba started, look at Nonoba News. Also, one thing that like better about nonoba is it’s messaging system. One thing that’s dumb about nonoba is that developers add achievements to their own games, thus making the quality of the badges much worse than Kongregate. Kong FTW!!
P.S. Isn’t a more appropriate title for this topic KongreKopy?

@matoking: We allow our games to be embedded on other sites, in fact we encourage it, and that means the chat and other features of the Nonoba website won’t always be present. That leaves only the game itself, which means that it has to be up to each developer to notify the player that an achievement was awarded (or not). Some games do it very well like Magic Marbles 2 and Monolith’s Mario World 2
@lartar: Don’t fight it, come join the developer’s section on Nonoba. You know you want to. :-)
@MrKoolAid: Yes, we were a bit too optimistic that developers would restrain themselves, so we now have a moderation feature for achievements. It’s still the developers that add them, but they have to be approved before they’re visible to everyone else on the site. We think it turned out neat.

In my opinion the sites confusing as hell. It has its own “distinguished” look. Don’t even get me started on the forums. Woop-de-doo on embedding by the way. Is there a way to see all the achievements? Or do I have to look for them myself. That’s probably a drawback for letting developers come up with their own achievements.

Yep, Nonoba has a really annoying, confusing layout. But we are all thankful that there is no “Nobai”.

I think one of the main reasons I dislike Nonoba is the colour scheme.

as far as i know, game sites have been around FOREVER. but, also as far as i know, kongregate was the first to have the achievements system. am i right? but im not surprised that someone would copy kongregate, it’s simply awesome. and you know what else is awesome? youtube, and how many knockoffs of that are there? I don’t even want to try scratching the tip of that iceberg O.o

The idea of having achievements is an old idea yet it’s still pretty awesome. XBOX Live apparently isn’t that old enough but is one of the current users of the achievement system.

The admins there actually talk! ;o I relayed a few messages with one of the admins some time ago about the API! ;P
Then again, that would probably make Kongregate better in the sense that I didn’t actually need to ask about it >_>
My only problem with the site is that it (afaik) causes more lag on my extremely bad computer than Kongregate >_>. There’s probably also an issue with games loading, except that might be firefox or something.
Oh, the PM system over there is better than the whisper system here ;) Not sure about the chat, I like how it highlights when someone mentions your name :P
Edit) Oh yeah, one more thing.. When you click someones name in the chat in Nonoba it opens their profile in the same window, which gets annoying. I’d rather it appear in some mini flash-embedded tab of sorts :P

The guy that created this site (Jim), was a manager at Pogo, If I recall correctly.
