Hi Captain Caveman, this is very cool!
We have around 175,000 registered Kongregate users who use Firefox (though it’s been growing quite fast lately as you may have noticed!) and a little over a 1 million unregistered users who use Firefox. I assume the extension will only really interest the registered users, though, since the guests can’t earn badges.
I think we’re okay with having you publish it to addons.mozilla.org, and definitely let us know if gets popular enough that the new page is needed. We’re going to be redoing the badges page anyway in the semi-near future anyway, so we could probably do it pretty easily then.

remember, alot of kongregate players are also using mac, meaning they prefer safari over firefox (although i’m using firefox in my macbook).. so i’d say around 60 by 40 of windows-firefox user by other browser..

New update version 0.9.2:
- You can now also change the username and view the achieved badges of your mates (or correct a typo in your own username).
- Fixed the bug which made Firefox crash completely after closing the sidebar.
@emily_greer, thanks for the info and the OK! I’ll keep everyone here posted about progress on AMO.
@miniwally, Go Get Firefox!
@everyone, apart from some more feedback, I could use some fresh Kongregate style icons. So if anyone can think of a nice red/black/white like “Reload” and “Change Username” icon then feel free to post/mail me (extensions[at]captaincaveman.nl)

My one complaint is that the play now text does not match up to the button.
:/
I’m using Ubuntu Studio with Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 5.

@EndParadox, I currently don’t have an Ubuntu (or any other then Windows…) installation, so I can not see what you mean by “the play now text does not match up to the button”. Do you mean that the button is too small to fit the text, or not high enough, or? Perhaps you could mail me a screenshot, should not be too much trouble for me to fix if I can just see what the actual problem is (if you’re familiar with it you may also just use the DOM inspector to see which style rule I need to overrule…)

Kongreguide (http://kongreguide.com/index.html) has a level calculator (under resources) You could probably use that for the sidebar.

cool idea, but maybe you should integrate with kongreguide somehow to consolidate window space. kongreguide + this as a openable/closeable firefox extension would be GOLD. good job nonetheless.

I don’t think “search” for a badge on a sidebar is a good function. Most people like to play the games that they haven’t earned the badges yet.
A suggestion : Add “Share Game” option which shows the referral link of the game you’re currently playing.

New update version 0.9.3:
- Added “Points to next level” thingy, using the list from Zantier and Tasselfoot from this topic
- The extension will reuse your Kongregate tabpage. Meaning that if you already have a tab with Kongregate opened the link will open in that tab, if not it will open in a new tab.
- Made the username and points clickable to open the profile and points pages.
- Restyled the account info bit a bit.
- Bugfix: Card would sometimes not go away after reloading it when achieved.
@lowhonor, I personally would rather not encourage the use of guides, so if there are not too many people which would also like to see some sort of mix, then I’m leaving Kongreguide for what it is.
@Kannushi_Link, not 100% sure about the usability of the search too, but I think it might become handy when there are over 500 badges on Kongregate. I also think it might be useful to check if your favorite game has a badge (problably new users only).
@Kannushi_Link, I don’t really see the use of this since the “Share game” links are already above and below the game you are playing. Or did I misunderstand the way you would like to see it?

Wow O_O I’m impressed!
I’m looking forward to badges counter or something like that, it will show you how many badges you have obtained or how many are still ‘locked’. For example: “Badges Complete: 156/256” ;)
Keep up the good work! ^^’

New update version 0.9.4:
- Added Badges completed count “Badges: 158 of 249”
- Added “Friends Online” thingy, click on it to open your Friends page.
- The sidebar will now automatically reload every ~20 minutes.
Did anyone already have an idea for those 2 icons which really need a restyle, and at which I am no good at all?

Is it happening only to me? Or I can’t see ‘badges count’?
Always this ‘loading bar’ at the bottom of the screen is ‘animating’.
‘Friends Online thingy’ works properly =)
What 2 icons have you mentioned? These next to the ‘loading bar’ ?

The button is very small, and the actual play now text falls just beneath the button. Play Now is in-between 2 badges.

New update version 0.9.4.1:
- Fixed a couple of Firefox 3 problems and a typo…
- Forced some style options on the Badges to hopefully fix the problems EndParadox described.
@SepulSoul, sorry I don’t speak English :P
@The_3lder, I hope the problems are fixed with version 0.9.4.1, could you please check and confirm this? If the problem still persists, please check your Firefox Tools/Error Console, I log errors in there.
@EndParadox, As said it’s difficult to fix a problem you can’t see. In version 0.9.4.1 I made some changes that might fix the issues you mention. Please check again and report whether it helped or not.
About the icons I still need, at least a new “Reload” and “Change username” icon, the 2 at the bottom of the sidebar. But if you (anyone) would rather create an entirely new set of all icons (Tools/Addons, Toolbar, Visit Kongregate) then that’s also fine by me. Except for the large extension icon (which is 32×32 pix) all icons should be about 16pxx16px.
Cheers.

I hoped that next version will fix this problem, but it hasn’t =(
It always shows: ’Badges: 0 of 0"
In Error Console I found this:
Error: handler has no properties

My problems are now fixed! yay! Thanks, CaptainCaveman. I like the top part as well. Friends, badge/total, points, etc. are win.
edit: the level icon is a tad stretched though.

@The_3lder, The handler error from the chat is one that everyone gets, and one that Kongregate has to fix (does not originate from the extension. I have no time left to investigate this today, so I wont be back until tomorrow evening (local time…). 1 thing you could try is switch to a different user (middle button on the bottom of the sidebar…) and then switch back to your own name again, perhaps completely reloading it helps… You do get to see your achieved/unachieved badges do you?

I’ve done everything earlier. I have Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.14, newest Java and Flash Player versions. Oh and one more thing…
Right now console is showing me this:
“Kongregate Sidebar caught an error, please send it to (your email adress probably ;) so I can fix it.
TypeError: oList.selectItem is not a function”
Perhaps this will help :? =)
And yes, I can see achieved/unachieved badges, I sorted badges by these 3 types and still – no positive effort..

I’ll try to figure out the why tomorrow, but I think version 0.9.4.2 should fix the problems. Could you please give it another try?
