175 Kreds to second place (guaranteed by 4 donors)
Protip for Wizard’s Quest: Get out of the starting room soon and don’t go back until much later. Unless you enjoy being slaughtered by minotaurs for all eternity. I broke something in the final update.

If you want to add prizes, PM my account and I’ll take that as a confirmation. You can say what prizes you want to add to what place or whatever.
Well, after playing through each of the games, I’ve made up my mind on which ones I liked the most (there were quite a few close ones in the mix):
1st: The Floor is Lava
2nd: Wizard’s Quest
It was close between these two, but I’m just not a huge fan of the adventure game genre (it was still very well done, though).
**Organise a GiTD** : Lacks WASD. Can be finished in like 30 seconds. :|
**Wizard’s Quest** : Really nice concept, but has some bugs; it seems that you’re immune to damage as long as you aren’t close to the starting room. Also, the “Press ENTER to close” thing is annoying, considering WASD + mouse controls, ENTER shouldn’t be used. I didn’t like tha auto pause either, an option to toogle it would be nice.
A really nice game overall, it’d be nice if you polished it a bit and released it.
**miniQuest** : The design is really nice, but it seems there’s some issue with the code as it way really laggy and I wasn’t able to get far because of that. Also, different keys to jump / attack would be nice, since mixing WASD with Z and X isn’t a good idea.
**Looper** : I think that the collision detection and the movement controls are too buggy for a game that requires precise movements.
**Level Quest** : Really nice graphics, but the gameplay was really boring. Also, a preloader would be nice.
**Pinky’s Dungeon Escape** : I liked the design. It looks really nice. I also enjoyed the gameplay for a while, then I got bored because I dislike that kind of games where you have to go back all the way, grab something, then return to where you started, etc. I’m always like “I already beat that part, what’s the point of doing it again?” Also, the dying animation takes too long for my taste. Same for the doors that activate with switches. Animations make you lose the momentum.
I didn’t finish it because of that, but I think it’s a pretty decent job for 10 days.
Also, custom controls are always nice. (:
**Just Another Shadow** : Sorry, but I won’t play a game that has a minute of unskippable text for every second of gameplay.
**Invader breaker** : Interesting concept. Some instructions before the game would be nice. I died like five times before understandin that it fires towards the mouse and that you don’t need to catch all the balls.
Also, it has memory leaks and it gets laggy with time.
**Millennium Pork in Castle Crisis** : Custom controls. (: I enjoyed it for a while. A bit of randmoness would make it better (random maps / airstrikes, etc).
The only bad thing is the way the character reacts to attacks; he seems to be launched in random directions, so surviving a hit is a matter of luck.
**Clown Death** : No instructions, I never figured out how to shoot and quit.
**The Floor Is Lava** : Gets boring after a couple of jumps. Not my kind of game. More elements would make it better.
**Fight Scene/b\>: I liked how all but the last level are already completed, that made me smile. But as with most of the games, it got repetitive / boring quickly.**
**Bob the Blob** : Really nice concept, but I hated the way the level moves. It’s also a bit laggy and the animations are too long for my taste. Great concept, though, may be worth polishing it. It has potential.
* * *
Just a couple of games managed to entertain me by doing the same thing over an over. Not that it’s bad, since this may be one of the hardest mechanics for a competition. miniQuest and Invade Breaker were fun, but the lag is never nice, so I’ll vote for the remaining two that I found good and never had lag issues:
## 1: Wizard’s Quest
# 2: Millennium Pork in Castle Crisis
**Bobikas – Organise a GiTD**
The concept was interesting, but the execution wasn’t that great. Really short and I didn’t like the char movement. Also, no sounds/music and a plain white background.
**truefire – Wizard’s Quest**
Kinda hard to read the instructions because of the font. Didn’t understand the bow attack, I tried clicking and nothing, then held the mouse to shoot and it started to autoshoot, which made the lack of “click to shoot” ability senseless.
At some point, I couldn’t be killed, don’t know why was just walking around with a few dozens of monsters hitting me and still with full HP.
No sounds and no music is a down as well. Also is incomplete, which is sad, you should make it a full playable game! The way it is now is a no go.
The graphics are awesome, really liked them!
**LIDgames – Looper**
Nice sounds and graphics. But the fact that it was made with Stencyl makes me ask: Graphics and sounds by yourself or you got them from the Forge?
Hard as hell, even harder than my entry.
**TheKaveman – Level Quest**
Really funny =)
The fights gets really boring really fast, since there’s no point in them after the “level up”. But I liked it.
**DrYoshiahu – Just Another Shadow**
Interesting, but it becomes too messy too quickly. I didn’t get to the end of it, but liked it!
**Abigayl – Invader Breaker**
I didn’t like the concept, but the execution was good. Really confusing at start, specially without in game instructions.
**Krankdud – Millennium Pork in Castle Crisis**
Meh. Nice graphics and sounds, but not much gameplay there.
**byrono – Clown Death**
Same as Krankdud’s…
**orandze – The Floor is Lava**
Really nice! Found 1 “problem”, you are counting 1 second more per minute. It goes 1:59, 1:60, 2:00, 2:01. But 1:60 = 2:00. So in the 3 minutes that the counter shows, there is really 3:03 minutes. Better game of the competition **cough** after mine **cough** =)
**Moshdef – Fight Scene**
I really don’t like the level select screen with 9 levels already passed and just 1 to go. Looks like a demo of the ending of a game, which is weird.
**Ace\_Blue – GITD24 Bob the Blob**
I liked the game mechanics, the fact that you need to kill the blobs to proceed is nice. BUT, the implementation could be improved. It’s way too fast to be played, really hard to pass those spikes.
**Rafael\_MJ – Pinky’s Dungeon Escape** , my entry
Really hard! Missing a few sound effects and the graphics weren’t made by an artist.
BUT, if it wasn’t mine, I would vote for it. Why? It’s complete, really challenging and I think it’s funny. It gets frustrating, I know, but I really enjoyed playing it, because of the challenge it gives you since the beginning of the game.
**FINAL DECISION**
1st orandze’s The Floor is Lava
2nd TheKaveman’s Level Quest
1st: Pinky’s Dungeon Escape
2nd: Just Another Shadow
Edit: I may change my vote since I’ve gotten something resolved on one of the games.
Edit again: Votes changed.
Here is my vote:
1 Wizard’s Quest
2 Pinky’s Dungeon Escape
Pinky and wizard are the only game that didn’t lag horribly. I think the most lag was UG’s game, sorry, derp.
3 Looper
Interesting concept, would have been #1 if not for the lag. Probably should have used something other than stencyl. I can literally see the robot ticking, moving in short pulse.
4 Another shadow
Interesting mechanics but dialog was slow as they can be for me :P Collisions too buggy.
5 Millennium Pork
Loved this game, awesome mechanics, also didn’t lag that bad. I froze when new enemies spawned though
6 Clown Death
Loved Super crate box, and the enemies start moving faster too lol
7 UG game
Platform game, nothing too special, has a lot of potential if expanded to have some more interaction with the environment,
Final vote:
1 **Millenium pork**
2 **Looper**
1st – Just Another Shadow
2nd – Pinky’s Dungeon Escape
Hope you’ll clean JAS a bit since it’s quite a nice concept. Also, remove the unskippable text please; the test subject theme is also overused, so it’s not really worth reading.
Pinky is the most polished game in the compo but lacks any form of innovation, so I preferred to praise the idea of the former instead, which also fits the theme more. Please use a longer music loop.
Invader Breaker would be my third pick, sorry you get no points for it! D=
Heh, the E-mail I got linked me to GitD #17 Voting – Anyway, I’ll place my votes here when I have time to look over the entries. Good luck to all contestants!
1. DrYoshiahu – Just Another Shadow
2. Truefire – Wizard’s Quest
I wish I could vote for more, everyone did a really great job on their entries this time around. I am very encouraged by the increasing number of entries for GitD!

Feedback for Developers
**Bobikas – Organise a GiTD**
Nice idea, although I think the entry is lacking some basic things. A tutorial of some sort would be great. Even a really simple popup that says “arrow keys to move, F to fling floppy disks” would be beneficial. Why is there no “WASD”? It would be pretty simple to make arrows AND WASD move your character (and it’s a little frustrating when WASD is natural for a lot of players).
The game is far too short. I realize you probably spent a ton of time working on mechanics, collisions, etc. but the game is either won or lost in less than a minute. Also, my first attempt I went to the left and fell into the white void as there is nothing to stop me from jumping off of the edge into oblivion. Nice concept, but it needs more content.
**truefire – Wizard’s Quest**
Really cool concept but difficult to navigate/tell what’s going on. I tried a few times, but died quickly and got a bit frustrated. I thought it was difficult to kill things and that the enemies come a bit too quickly. After 30 seconds or so I was getting slaughtered by something that was shooting what appeared to be ice bolts.
In summary, I think the idea here is great, and you have some pretty sweet graphics going on, although they’re tiny and a little tough to distinguish. For a GitD entry, I think you got a great deal of work done, kudos.
Tried again after reading your “protip” very helpful. Not nearly as overwhelming when you get out of that first room. I had a pretty good time with your game and am impressed that you managed to get some kind of “level up” system implemented for GITD. Great job.
**LIDgames – Looper**
Cool graphics, nice idea, but ridiculously hard to complete. I got past the first group of “lasers” shooting on the right a couple times but got fed up with the repetition after that. Very nice work for ten days. My first complaint is that I can’t find a place to toggle the music/SFX easily (is there one at all?). Many players will find that irritating (half of them are teenagers in a classroom that can’t get caught playing games!) and quit right away.
The controls are a little bit touchy, but for this style of game that is probably necessary (precision, you know?). Overall, I think you did a great job for a GitD, keep up the good work!
**TheKaveman – Level Quest**
Takes waaaaay too long to load, I thought the link was broken at first. Kongregate blank gray screen for 15 seconds will have a lot of people looking for a different game to play. I saw your note about the music, but I’m still going to complain. It’s not that tough to have a toggle sound feature and it really will deter a lot of your potential players from continuing the game. Side note: Am I the only one that tried pressing “l, m”, and “b” to shoot before realizing that “LMB” meant left-mouse button?
Anyway, back to the game. Simple but effective graphics, and your music/transitions are not bad either (although mute would be nice). I chuckled when I got the “Nooo” animation for the level up. The gameplay itself is too redundant, but it is a nice start and could definitely be expanded upon. Nice work for ten days time, keep it up.
**Rafael\_MJ – Pinky’s Dungeon Escape**
Well, I feel kind of bad (and maybe foolish) because I couldn’t play this game and it looks somewhat promising. I may have encountered a weird bug or something… Here’s what happened:
I walked a little jumped a couple times, and headed over to the “options” area. I toggled the music, then jumped into the “instructions” button and skimmed through the directions. After that, I was unable to move with the arrows or jump using the space bar. I refreshed my screen/reloaded the game, but when my sprite loaded up in the center of the stage I was still unable to move or jump. In fact, when I press space bar, “Gems collected 0/20” pops up and disappears. That’s it.
I’m not really sure what happened there and wish I had gotten a chance to play through a bit of your game. I do have some feedback based on the little bit of “experience” I had. Thank you for having the sound mute by default (and making it easy to toggle), players appreciate this. The graphics and mechanics both seem appropriate (and pretty well-done) based on the little time I was able to play. Nice work, sorry I couldn’t give you more useful feedback.
**DrYoshiahu – Just Another Shadow**
Very unique concept, I must say I’m quite impressed. You managed to keep the gameplay/mechanics very simple, yet fun. My biggest complaint is in regards to the text at the beginning of the game. I realize it’s role in demonstrating the shadows/game concept, but pausing the player entirely to read the text is just sort of annoying. I like that the game encourages “discovery” and makes the player feel like they’re learning as they play. Sort of has a “super meat boy” feel to it (learn by dying). Very nice job.
**Abigayl – Invader Breaker**
Great idea, but the game is a bit overwhelming (especially the first couple of tries). Also, as others have noted, it gets laggy after it runs for a while. I’m not sure what’s going on there but something must be hanging out in memory not being garbage collected (bullets, enemies, etc?). You could definitely use a little instructions screen of some sort that lists the power-ups and their effects. I also like the idea of having a small bit of text pop up briefly that says “+SPD” or “+TIME” or something to that effect.
Very nice work for a GITD, but there is room for improvement. I look forward to seeing any future updates you perform for this title!
**Krankdud – Millennium Pork in Castle Crisis**
Plus one for a preloader. Pretty cool graphics. I immediately tried navigating the menu with my mouse and was a bit disappointed to find that I could not. Nice simple sfx, and thanks for the sound controls. The game seems a little too short, but it’s a pretty cool concept. I would really like to be able to hold down the “shoot” button to shoot continuously instead of mashing the button repeatedly. Good work, keep it up!
**byrono – Clown Death**
Made me laugh, I’m not sure what that clown is “shooting” but it’s comical. Seems like it takes a bit too long in between shots to really effectively “kill” a whole lot of minions. Also, mute button and an instructions screen of some sort would be very nice. Good work for GITD, but there is a ton of room for potential growth (more enemies, scrolling level perhaps?). Well done.
**orandze – The Floor is Lava**
Took a very long time to load (over 30 seconds). I’m not sure if any of your assets can be reduced in size, but that would probably help (my guess is that compressing your audio files to a smaller size would alleviate a lot of the loading time). In fact, I’m still waiting for the game to load (it just finished, took over 90 seconds…).
Loading time aside… I like your menu, and the rest of your graphics are pleasing as well. I didn’t make it very far (survived about 45 seconds) and so I spent twice the time loading the game as I did playing it. I am impressed that you managed to squeeze achievements in, they are a nice touch. It’s a very cool concept, and I like that you have to “adapt” by jumping after the blocks have disappeared. Very nice work.
**Moshdef – Fight Scene**
Thanks for the mute option straight off the bat, players appreciate that. Why do I start on level 10?? I am impressed that you managed to complete this style of game for a GITD, I haven’t made one myself, but it seems like a pretty large task. Graphics are simple, yet effective, although they give the game a sort of “unprofessional” feel (they look like they were done in Paint to me). You obviously spent a great deal of time on this entry, though, very nice job. I am a bit confused about why I started on level 10 with 4 different “moves” but hey, it was still fun.
**Ace\_Blue – GITD24 Bob the Blob**
Cool concept, but very redundant. I got bored pretty quickly. Some in-game instructions might be nice, and in a game like this usually the first couple actions “guide” the player and show them how to play. It took me a minute or two just to figure out I **could** solidfy my blob and create a “step”. Pretty cool concept, but it definitely needs some work in regards to gameflow and player friendliness. Great work for GITD though, muy bien.
First: Just Another Shadow.
Second: The Floor is Lava
**Organise a GiTD** ; Too short, overly random trolls, just not fun.
**Wizard’s Quest** : Buggy weapons, character was very quickly invincible, minotaurs also seemed to be invincible, no actual objective. This is probably the prettiest game though.
**Looper** ; Pretty fun. I assume I’d score a point if I got to the glowing door from the left? I only managed to get just over half way round.
**Level Quest** : Nice use of the theme, but ultimately pretty dull.
**Just Another Shadow** : Really good game, Could even warrant badges. I’d agree about the text, the option to move at least during it would be nice. Also when I finished the game I moved through to restart before noticing I could go through other doors. maybe put the restart door up high, so it can’t be used accidentally?
**Invader Breaker** : Kinda fun, but messy and chaotic. Needs more of an explanation of what the power ups are I’m collecting, and perhaps a slower difficulty curve. Also needs an objective.
**Millenium Pork in Castle Crisis** slow, needs better jumping, unsatisfying.
**The Floor is Lava** : Pretty fun, very nice when you see the ending screen. Achievements for different difficulties would be good.
**Clown Death** Couldn’t make myself play for long. Seemed poorly balanced.
**Fight Scene** : Fairly pointless choice of attacks, slow but inevitable heal (Pretty sure you can only lose on the third fight barring appalling luck) didn’t feel like I’d achieved anything.
**Pinky’s Dungeon Escape** : Good game. Perhaps a little too like Snailiad/Elephant Quest/Arzea etc. Agree with the nitpick about death animations, but difficulty seems about right given all the checkpoints.
**miniQuest** Made me smile. Interested to see how it would have turned out if finished.
**GITD24 Bob the Blob** Nice concept. Like Dibbles in a platformer. Awful execution. Gravity is far too fast, which combined with the spikes makes the requirement to progress far too exacting.

Thanks for pointing that out. If you’ve voted, make sure to check out [Ace\_Blue’s Game](http://www.kongregate.com/games/Ace_Blue/gitd24-bob-the-blob) and correct your votes if necessary. I apologize for the oversight. (Small linky, one word, made it hard to spot when going through)
**EDIT** Derp. really weird. I even played that game (the solidifying concept was super cool and unique for overcoming obstacles. I might have overwritten it when adding multiple entries to the thread’s post.
First, some feedback on each one; hopefully it will be helpful. Bear in mind that I’m mostly going to be constructive rather than saying OMG THAT’S WUNDRFULZ. No offense is meant. :D
**Organise a GiTD:** Unfortunately, I don’t have much to offer for this one since there isn’t a lot to it. Disregarding the lack of level content (this is likely due to time), the play control feels too slow and clumsy, and there isn’t any way to indicate that the player has actually picked up the floppy disks, such as them disappearing, a sound effect, etc.
**Wizard’s Quest:** Neat, but there are a LOT of bugs. The challenge factor seems to go from “pretty easy” to “HOLY CRAP” right after the first bat or two; I had an ice-spamming ghost farm-kill me all the way back to the starting point, and then…I somehow became invincible (smells like NaN health to me!) and was able to go wherever I want until finally, I somehow got trapped by a treasure box. Balance, balance, balance. Fix the bugs, balance enemies a bit better, and this could be pretty damned good.
**Looper:** Super-ultra-mega hard, but unfortunately, the challenge comes from somewhat-clumsy controls. I really like the graphics though.
**Level Quest:** The slow-moving armor enemies were actually harder than the fast-moving enemies. The character’s attack was pretty basic, but that can be blamed on the fact that he was stuck on level 1. Amusing boss encounter, too.
**Pinky’s Dungeon Escape:** Kinda reminds me of the robot wants series. Trying to get past tricky spots could be made less annoying by speeding up the death animation considerably. Also, better indications for jumping to hit power ups, checkpoints, etc—a sound, a flash, anything. I found myself hitting checkpoints multiple times just to make sure it registered.
**Just Another Shadow:** All right, this is pretty awesome overall. A really unique and creative way to present a challenge to the player. Really, the ONLY criticism I have is that the graphics are kind of basic, but at the same time, that’s part of the charm. Oh, and the text is SO. DAMNED. SLOW. I want to be able to press a button to skip it.
**Invader Breaker:** This is a neat mixing of genres. I already posted a criticism on the game’s page. Also, I noticed that, when I die, my health shows negative 1. Also, I have no idea what all of the powerups do. Somebody suggested a floaty text thing telling what each one does when you grab it, but also, an ingame list of descriptions alongside each power up before the game starts would be neat, too. Much better than just text instructions on Kong. Other than that, neat, even though I’m absolutely terrible at it.
**Millennium Pork in Castle Crisis:** God I hate those fucking frogs. The idea that your shots can actually be dangerous to use (due to being able to punch holes in the platforms) is pretty neat. Personally, I wouldn’t have any pits waiting to claim the player at the start of the game. Instead, let those get opened up by _those fucking frogs_, although that might mean making their spit a bit more acidic. This way, things start out pretty easy but get harder than just being hard from the start.
**Clown Death:** Awesome, I get to play a clown! :D No but really, the “attack” needs a much shorter cooldown than it has, and might even need to do more damage. It can be tricky to get the first few kills, but after that, it’s just “oh shit, avoid crap until you die.” Killing anything after that borders on impossible. Also, more than one life/hit point.
**The Floor is Lava:** Oh crap, I’m getting flashback of Heatman’s stage in Megaman 2. You know, the part where everyone just uses the jet sled instead of jumping on the blocks? You know, perhaps a sound effect of some sort when each new floor spawns wouldn’t be a bad idea. Other than that, neat!
**Fight Scene:** Simple and rather unbalanced (the little guy is the only one you can’t outheal and requires luck to beat) yet there’s something about this game that’s still appealing. In the future, you might want to work on polishing things up, though. Pretty much all the criticisms I had before still stand—needs more interesting and meaningful attacks, specifically.
**Bob the Blob:** Neat concept, but the controls are too tricky because the character moves fast. Too fast for what you’d expect a blob to do. Other than that, this is actually pretty neat.
– - -
Anyway, this was a really, really good batch of games and it’s going to be hard to decide, but…
1) DrYoshiahu: Just Another Shadow. I’ve never seen a game that presented its challenge in such a manner before.
2) Moshdef: Fight Scene. Despite the lack of polish and balance, I still found it interesting enough to finish, but maybe that’s just because I have a soft spot for gore and RPG-ish gameplay.
Honorable Mention) Truefire: Wizard’s Quest. If it wasn’t for all of the bugs I encountered and the somewhat clunky feel to the game controls and UI, this would’ve probably been my first pick.
Nice job guys! :D
Edit: Oops, forgot Bob the Blob. Sorry!
**1st – Just Another Shadow
2nd – Clown Death**
Below is an essay of criticism for each game:
**Organise a GiTD** : This had pretty good potential, being so original, but it was very unpolished and was quite honestly, not very interesting or entertaining.
**Wizard’s Quest** : This may be the buggiest game I’ve ever played. It’s a good game and could go really far, but it just broke sometimes. For a while I was completely invincible, sometimes I found myself in a room with a chest blocking the only way out. Also, the text was hard to read and the difficulty curve is all over the place, overall it definitely needs a lot more testing and polishing.
**Looper** : It’s quite aestetically pleasing, although the music is annoying but it looks nice, and you were able to put the level, the title and the scores on the one screen, and I commend you for that, however; to say this game is hard is a massive understatement. I really like the idea but it’s basically impossible.
**Level Quest** : The game was interesting to begin with, but it quickly got repetitive, it looked very nice but the gameplay was uninteresting, I was especcially dissapointed to see that you couldn’t level up.
**Pinky’s Dungeon Escape** : It’s not a bad game I must say, it didn’t take long for me to get completely sick of the midi-style background music, and I think it needed more direct instructions in-game. It wasn’t boring though but some times things were just a little too difficult, I think a better difficulty curve would go a long way.
**Just Another Shadow** : This game was really fun and a completely original concept, it was confusing, but definitely enjoyable. I was glad to see that you’re adding a dialogue skipping option and more costumes after the voting. The difficulty curve is just right I thought, and I especially enjoyed the music, which was one thing lacking the most in this competition. The game was obviously very well tested and polished.
**Invader Breaker** : This game was probably my favourite concept, but it missed out by just a little bit. For one thing, there should never be a point in a game where you have to deliberately die if you want to end the game and send your score [See Image.](http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo173/Pizzaboy48/BrokenGame.jpg) The powerups were a little bit confusing, and it took me a while to work out what to do. It was fun to play, but far to easy to break by getting good at it. Also, even with 20 balls on the screen at once, I don’t think the game should be lagging as much as it did. This game probably could’ve done better with some more testing.
**Millennium Pork in Castle Crisis** : This game is interesting for lack of a better word. I’m not a big fan of pixellated graphics or midi-style music but they were both good here. It was definitely difficult and didn’t seem to offer any sort of reward for a high score, but it was pretty fun, and fairly original.
**Clown Death** : I liked this one, with some more work put into it and perhaps some upgrades, it could be really interesting. It was entertaining and somewhat funny. It was very hard though and took a number of tries to actually get any good at it. Again there was the common theme of midis and pixels.
**The Floor is Lava** : The music is probably the best part of this game. It was quite nice to just listen to it, the game was polished and was uploaded and edited due to player’s comments before most of the other games were done, which is notable. As interesting as the ending was, I didn’t find the game to be all that entertaining. After a while it was too repetitive. I think instead of just one small box to work with, the game could’ve been really successful with a randomly generated map to run along.
**Fight Scene** : The storyline was good but the gameplay was tedius and repetitive. It didn’t take me long to realise that all you can do is alternate between attacking and healing. The music and sound effects were quite nice though.
**Bob The Blob** : This game is really interesting and I love the concept of having to respawn to help yourself out. Unfortunately without in-game instructions it seems very impossible. The game was pretty fun though. The graphics were pretty good, but let down by the speed at which the camera moves, which was irritating at times.
