I like a lot of the games on this site and have been playing with the idea of making some indie games just as practice for the future.
I read the FAQ for Developers, but there’s a problem…I only have the free version of Game Maker, which only makes executables (I checked). I don’t have the money to buy Flash or a program that makes Shockwave files.
So what do you do if all you have to make games is Game Maker? =(

Be extra nice to your parents and hope they’ll buy you a Flash dev program (there are cheaper ones than Adobe Flash).
You can also try one of the free code-only options if you’re able to program without a graphical interface. Personally, I find that confusing but many devs prefer it.

Unity is free my friend! I think it´s the future’s choice for all indie devs out there! =)

@Box: Yeah….my parents would tell me to buy it myself, XD. But I don’t have the money for it. Though, what other programs are there? The only one I know of that makes flash files is, well, Flash.
@Sanctus: You mean the Unity Engine? I have heard of that over on Gamasutra, but I don’t know how you go about using an Engine to make a game (though I should probably learn, huh?). Is the interface easy to use/learn on it?

Code only: FlashDevelop (free)
Graphical IDE: SoThink Quicker ($85), SwishMax ($150)
All of the paid programs have trial versions available, but you can’t use files from one of them with any others (so if you start a project in SoTHink, you can’t go edit it in Adobe Flash later).
Unity is free, like mentioned, but its intended for 3D graphics so you may find that the art side of designing is trickier.

@Box: I can’t use code only, unfortunately, as the only code languages I know are HTML and CSS. I don’t know any game coding languages (yet).
Do all the paid program’s trials expire after a month, or do they work like Game Maker where you can use the trial version all you want, you’ll just be slightly limited in the features you can use?
Eh, I’ve worked a bit with making 3D objects/graphics when I took CAD in high school. Where can I get Unity and is it easy-ish to use/learn?

learn some code.
no, gamemaker is unique, some have fully functional trials for one month.
