Let’s count how many Champions (no upgrades, stats increasing effects and items) you’ll need to kill:
1 Gargoyle Shaman at one blow (no crit. hits)
2 Demonologists at one blow (no crit. hits)
3 Polar Bears at one blow (no crit. hits)
Show us your knowledge of game mechanics, guys!

But what good are these questions?
Oh well, anyway :
3/8/15

Doing the G\_Nomey thing from the amount of units question and hedging my bets:
3 Champs vs 1 Gargoyle Shaman
9 Champs vs 2 Demonologists
16 Champs vs 3 Polar Bears

vs 1 Gargoyle Shaman:
3 with Cavalryman’s Strike
25% chance with 2 if Storm is used
vs 2 Demonologists:
7 with Cavalryman’s Strike
50% chance with 6 if Storm is used
vs 3 Polar Bears:
10 with Cavalryman’s Strike
100% chance with 9 if Storm is used

metadata
and if I may add:
vs 1 Gargoyle Shaman:
3 with Cavalryman’s Strike
25% chance with 2 if Storm is used
4 if Thundering Step is used
vs 2 Demonologists:
7 with Cavalryman’s Strike
50% chance with 6 if Storm is used
66,67% chance with 11 or 33,33% chance with 10 if Thundering Step is used
vs 3 Polar Bears:
10 with Cavalryman’s Strike
9 if Storm is used
66,67% chance with 15 or 33,33% chance with 16 if Thundering Step is used

Would you like to know the correct answer?;)
 **3 Champions** kill 1 Gargoyle Shaman;
 **7 Champions** kill 2 Demonologists;
**11 Champions** kill 3 Polar Bears.
Of course we’re speaking about their default abilities)
Looks like there was something you missed(

Nival – can you break down how those values are calculated ? because the Polar Bear resistance seems to be ignored

metadata
Yes I would too like to know the formula, because the ones suggested do not entirely work.
And I still think that you can kill 3 Polar Bears with 10 Champions 33% of the time.
Could you please prove me wrong?

metadata
Using the formula located [http://www.kongregate.com/forums/139kingsbountylegions/topics/265281howtocalculatedamage](http://www.kongregate.com/forums/139kingsbountylegions/topics/265281howtocalculatedamage) that is the correct answer.
I actually put together a cool excel sheet that lets you choose number of attackers and defenders of any unit matchup of any upgrade level, assign any attribute buffs you like, pick a range, and it will accurately tell you the damage range, how many were killed along with additional damage to next in stack, the crit damage/killed, and even break down the probability for each possible damage value.
I’m still adjusting the look of it, and I still need the upgrade bonuses for each level for 7 units that I don’t have. I also still plan on adding a gear selection to account for gear bonuses automatically. I haven’t decided if I want to take the time for the nonstandard attacks. I’ll release it once complete.
A screenshot of what it looks like so far is at [http://imageshack.us/a/img823/599/kble.png](http://imageshack.us/a/img823/599/kble.png)

Gyan, first of all that formula is not 100% accurate. Try it in game in any fight and see if you can match the calculated damage, with the one that actually appears when you fight. Try the Seawolves vs Archmages post and see if you can match the result.
Secondly you don’t need to know all the upgrades, just put in your formula the altered stats (either boosted or diminished). All the needed stats appear if you left click during a combat.
Thirdly, with the screenshot you post, you also give a wrong answer since you say that 29,333% of the times 11 Champions will kill 2 Polar Bears.
The problem with the formula is when resistances are inserted, when the attack of the attacker is much bigger than the defender’s attack, when atkdef\<0, and finally who said that the class bonuses are 15% and 7%? Are we absolute sure that this is the case?

metadata
Actually it works perfect in my tests, maybe you were using it incorrectly, see SS links.
I do need to thank you though for making me go double check it, in my rearranging I had looked up the defence of the defender based on the attackers level instead of the defenders, so it was a bit off when not level 0.
Here is Sea Wolf Vs. Archmage (my sea wolf is not upgraded, and buffs section has what my armor gives it)

Yes I had an error to my formula, but the answer Nival gave is also wrong!
You need **12** champs to kill 3 polar bears 100% of the time.
So the correct answer is 3/7/12

hmm, I must have miscounted originally because I had 3/7/13

metadata
Well I finally finished my perfect probability distribution for damage on my spreadsheet (to be release this weekend). Its not as easy as originally thought since the damage is rolled individually for each unit in the stack. Anyway under those conditions 11 Champions will kill 3 Polar Bears 98.019% of the time, and 2 Polar Bears 1.981% of the time.

metadata
And just for the hell of it, with crits added in at the base 12% critical rate the % on number killed is
2 – 1.744
3 – 86.256
4 – 12
That is assuming the critical roll is a single roll for the whole stack, if not the math on the distribution really gets insane.
