A question,if you will, Synapticon. No flames. No trolling. Just something that has been troubling my conscience for a few months now.
How do you feel about the fact that the ENTIRE N64 LIBRARY would cost less than half of what it would cost to buy a playset of Vindicators in Tyrant Unleashed?

What are you so spiteful? The player base went down because of Conquest and players burning out. The Devs had nothing to do with the Conquest Alliance… Be grateful that they are keeping the servers up for another year

This is a tough read! I’ve played for an incredibly long time here on Kong, been a part of some of the best and worst of times, and had the opportunity to play with a lot of great people.
While I look forward to seeing the new stuff, I have the sense that it won’t matter since there’s a definite date that the game’s ending, so it might make sense to move on and play a different game and use that time to improve there as well. I’ll stick around as long as my friends need me here, but this news sucks and I wish it weren’t so.
Is there no way to transfer stuff to the community to host, support, develop and play as we wish to? I understand it’s your intellectual property/etc., but I know for a fact there is a lot of talented folks in this community that have worked on projects on their own to better the game (fansite) and work with the game (optimizers, etc) as well as designers/artists and playtesters that could easily continue the game for the community for free (aside from server costs, of course..), simply because we love it.

This news makes me sad but happy. Sad because of the obvious: one of my favorite games that I’ve ever played on this site will be dead within a year, but happy because I somehow never brought myself to start buying warbonds for this game, which is now proving to be the best decision I ever made as I started progressing into the game.

Unfortunately we won’t be able to give away (or sell) the codebase/IP for lots of reasons.

If you want to believe that I am spiteful, and if you want to believe that neglecting the game had nothing to do with driving the player base down to an unsustainable level, that’s okay.

Why not 5?

Licensing IP is an incredibly time-consuming and costly process to setup legally. The current database setup would be also extremely timeconsuming to move over. Opening the codebase up to a third party would cause potential issues because it shares a decent bit of code with all of our games.

People are really upset about this…myself included…tyrant was/is a very special game. Its natural that a lot of us will try to figure out a way to sustain it… but no matter what happens thanks for the good times :)

If you are under the pretense that neglecting the game is the main reason why the player base declined, then I believe that you are wrong.
The playerbase was declining rapidly after Conquest made the game stagnant. If I were the devs, I would’ve shut the game down there.
What some players don’t seem to understand is that the purpose of these games is to make money. Although I disagree with the Devs method of abandoning the game and creating a new more expensive version of it (TU), I believe that shutting it down on August 1st is justified.

That may come as little surprise given our poor communication and slow update cycle over the past several months. I apologize for the long “limbo” period we’ve been in this year. At this point, however, we simply don’t have the resources to continue support.

Because of this, we will keep our servers up for another year to allow players to continue enjoying WMT.

For Posterity
Can you please do 1 thing?
Reinstate the old Arena. Please. I’m not bothered if you leave the new arena alongside it, but please please please.
Also, will you be making WB purchases defunct?
Will you still allow us to make 1 or 2 more community packs?

How much ‘income’ WMT would have to generate to stay?
Could you give players chance to design new promo cards / promo upgrades?
Could players take care of WB content? Like WB-only packs / better + more expensive promos, etc?
…or is it final decision and nothing is going to change it?

Your arguments are valid, but give it a day or two and see if you don’t work into the acceptance phase of grief.

Thanks for the previous reply, and thanks for this short reason — it’s unfortunate that it has to be this way, but business-wise understandable. I was just hoping for the answer that we could support your game for you if we made enough money to host the server(s) as time went on, but I guess that isn’t quite an option. :)
Thanks for listening to the community and being a part of it, at least — We (the players and you) haven’t always agreed on all decisions, but you’ve done your best to take into what we want to work with what you want and make it mutually beneficial in the best possible ways.
Finally and personally, thanks for giving me something to pay attention to all day, every day for the last 3-4 years of my life and the opportunity to meet and play alongside some of the great people I’ve met around the world.

We will be shutting down WB purchases at least a month before the game closes, most likely earlier.
We plan on one community pack, but it can be a decently sized one. We’re aiming for early September for the pack, so there are several weeks to design cards.
I can take a look at the Arena, but I’m not sure how long it would take to update.
