Or you could stop playing pr2, I find the items you get from folding at home are worthless.

I want to fold for myself and It was so, untill 24th of August.
I was cleaning my PC and after a while when it was cleaned, I started F@H and after an hour, the PC Started to make some noises and overheated resulting in a shutdown. I was very annoyed and sad that I can’t do my folding, so until I fix the problem, I try to compensate my loss…
Besides, I don’t agree on spamming too!

Your fans broken, your computer is overheating from running programs, I have another laptop with the same problem.

I’ve had an old laptop do that before, and I believe you can buy laptop stands that have holes through the bottom so the heat can go elsewhere. I’m not really sure exactly how it works, but I remember it gave my old laptop and extra year.

Well, I am using a PC and with a little fixing the BSoD appeared. Better then nothing. So, I am trying to fix it more. Something burned, but I think I found it. I think the Processor Burned, which is probably the most obvious by F@H’s work. I’ll try to make it with more Contact… You know… The “silver” Thingy… So the heat can “eject”. Either ways, I am glad that you didn’t think my comment is something releated to ask you if you’ll fold for me. Negative comments are alwful too :J

Check my reply to Marh… below/above. The fans aren’t broken and I said that i Just cleaned… I didn’t open any programs, but F@H, Skype, Antivirus Program, Mozilla and Xfire, which I then closed… Don’t think that this reply is Negative to your reply. It is more like a notice.

You know… The “silver” Thingy

Your heatsink? I’ll be perfectly honest with you here. First, if you’re planning on adjusting that at all, you’d be well served to learn your way around a computer first, and second, if you mess with your heatsink at all, you’ll need to buy new thermal paste for it – I recommend Arctic Silver.

But again – the consequences for failure are dire – mess it up and you’ll fry your CPU and possibly your motherboard as well.

Edit: Or do you not have a fan/heatsink on your processor? It occurs to me that I’ve never seen one without a plastic fan on the top, and if all you’ve got is the processor itself (which is usually metallic silver or gold), you need to fix it immediately. If you don’t have adequate cooling then it makes perfect sense that your computer would shut down. However, as a stopgap measure, you can take off the side panel of your computer and put a box fan next to it – that should provide a good deal of extra cooling.

As for people who are desperate for a Cowboy hat: PR2 isn’t even that great of a game. That being said, you should run F@H, because it’s a great program that benefits scientific and medical advancement. Also, if you can run the GPU version, it looks absolutely bitchin (Although if you don’t have a high end graphics card, don’t download this, it just screws up both F@H versions). I’m actually running the SMP version right now, which looks significantly less awesome, but, as someone on a forum said once, when they see people with quad-core processors folding, Stanford researchers say “Christ on a bike, Thank you!”, because there’s a bunch of things that can’t be done on single core processors.

Does f@h still fold when u shut ur laptop? cuz i don’t think it does.
