I understand how to calculate them but I don’t understand what they mean or why they matter.

BSI determines if you are strong in PvP or if you don’t stand a chance.
LSI tells you if you are a super power leveler(LSI > 6) or just a slow turtle leveler(LSI < 5). And high LSI disables some EXP boni.
