New 3-day PvP Tournament!

3-day PvP Tournament for the title of the “King’s Best Legionnaire”!
You are welcome to submit your applications!

We’d like to invite you to take part in our new PvP Tournament, which will be held from August 10th, 2012 to August 13th, 2012. New rules, new prizes, new PvP rating system.

The rules of the new tournament are as follows:

1. The Tournament starts at 12 a.m. CET (5 a.m. CST/3 a.m. PST) August 10th, 2012 and ends at 12 a.m. CET (5 a.m. CST/3 a.m. PST) August 13th, 2012.

2. In order to apply, you need to submit an application and have 100 000 Gold coins on your account. The Gold will be taken from your account for tournament prize pool.
Deadline for application: 9 a.m. CET (2 a.m. CST/12 a.m. PST) August 10th, 2012.

3. In order to apply one should write a comment for this post as follows:
“I, NAME would like to take part in the Tournament and agree to pay 100 000 Gold coins fee.

Please note, that you’re allowed to participate in the Tournament only on 1 platform and you can choose between Facebook, Kongregate, VK, Odnoklassniki and MoiMir, and only with one account.

4. All you need to do is to battle against other players and get the points for your victories. You’re allowed to use Auras.
Victory gives you 3 points, if you lose, you get -1 point, and if you run away from the battlefield, you get -5 points. If your opponent runs away from the battlefield, you get 0 points.

5. When the Tournament is over, the King will acclaim 3 winners, who will get the prize pool except for the 30% tax for Kingdom needs.

6. Administration has a right to exclude users from the list of winners on suspicion of cheating until the circumstances are clarified and the investigation completed.

7. We do not count friendly PvP battles.

When the tournament comes to an end we will introduce a new PvP rating system, and the top 3 players will be the first to take the lead.

Example:

If the tournament has 50 participants, they’ll generate 5 000 000 Gold. 30% (1 500 000 Gold) The King takes for the Kingdom needs.

The remaining 3 500 000 Gold coins are the prize pool. So the winner gets 1 750 000 Gold, the runner-up (2nd place) gets 1 050 000 Gold and the contestant who took the third place gets 700 000.

And one more, old contest you can join in since “lvl 8”, now I’m not sure.
Did you know that how hard to make 100 000 gold for low level players?

Great two steps nival. First, you introduced Royal Aura, that destroyed fairness in PvP with %20 more troops. Than, you took a +500 gem prize tournament to a only 3 winner, GOLD reward ( why anyone need gold is beyond me…. can you buy Royal Aura with gold? ) tournament..

The big change obviously is replacing the gem reward with gold reward, and also, the gold being collected from the players.

I can see two spaces of reasoning that may have led to this change. One is gem related, the other is gold related it. I ll try to take a closer look into both of them now.

Gems.
Probably devs decided that there are too many gems poured into the game that players havent payed with real money for. The change in the tournament prizes is an attempt to lower, eliminate even, the number of those gems. The end of lucky wednesdays is another indicator that something like this is probably happening.
Why did the devs decide to do that? We can only guess.
Maybe with the introduction and promotion of the royal aura there was hope that lots of players would put their money into the game, and this didnt happen to the extend devs were hoping.
Well, the simple truth is that people that are inclined to pay with real money will do so anyway, whether people that dont want to put their real money into their games will not do it no matter what.
This means that, sadly, removing gems from being rewarded to players for various accomplishments will not make them buy more gems with real money. Those who used to buy before will continue to do so, and those who didnt will continue not to. So, people become annoyed (because of the end of lucky Wednesdays mainly) and there is no significant upside. My suggestion: bring back lucky Wednesdays and gems as reward for contest + give people other reasons to want to spend gems. There are things that can be done, even things that have no effect into to the game balances (I ve talked about cosmetic changes in the past).
Keep in mind though: people who dont spend real money into their games, they dont spend real money into their games. And they are not going to spend, no matter what. Those who do, they will always do so, again no matter what.

Gold.
Now this is interesting. Yes, gold was kind of an obvious choice to replace gems as reward, but it wasnt the only candidate. Resources could be used instead, or stamina bottles, or items, or units etc.
Why gold? And, most important, why in this way? Why provided by the players themselves?
The answer lies in the 30% fee. This is obviously an attempt to drain some of the excess gold from the game. Lets face it: for high level players gold is useless. We all have much more than we need, and nothing to do with it. So, asking us to give it back is not a bad idea but, ohnos! promising it as a reward, well, obviously isnt going to work. No incentive here. Gems were an incentive, both for paying and non-paying players. Gold isnt. But, anyway, devs are trying to drain some of our useless gold. Nothing really bad happening, right? Well, almost nothing. As it has already been noted, 100k may be pocket change for players of my level, but they are a considerable amount of money for lower level players.
Ultimately though, my suggestion is going to be quite similar with the one about gems: instead of trying to take our gold back with indirect ways, give us things to do with it. Make it useful. This way, even if the new contest prize is here to stay, it will at least be useful. Now, obviously, it isnt. I have 8 mils sitting there and nothing to do with it. Now if i win in this contest i will just have one or two more useless mils.

So, in the end, will i participate in this new contest? I could, but certainly not for the reward.

How about join fee depend on level area and keep the gems reward as before?

Berserker (27+ lvl)
Veteran (17-26 lvl)
Recruit (8-16 lvl)

and each level area have different join fee with gold
then you can drain some gold back and incentive enough that for players not matter they pay or not to join the contest

I think it would be cool if we would get information on what army line ups each participant was running to get a nice idea on what units are preferable and what are considered bad. Would be very helpful to newer players too so they don’t end up buying loads of bad units and later regret their choice.
