Serious problem - missing inventory

All day today I had the issue of losing ALL bags and all emporium upgrades every time I log in (which costed me already a heap of gold and 5 sparks from premium). Anyone else has that problem?

Note that all characters, progress and equipped items are fine, including access to premium features

I just started here because Armor games lost all my data, and I can export my data here. I don’t have premium. When I started, I exported whenever I got off. And every time I get back on, my inventory is empty. The only solution, I think, is to export data. They will probably give back your premium stuff when they fix the problem, but I don’t know how you would get your other stuff back… Sorry.

It’s happening to me too. Such a good game, ruined by such a big problem.

If it’s only recent it might be related to the new version, but it seems to work fine for me. Can you give me any other information?

What browsers are you using? Had you used the import / export functions at all before this happened?

I just had the some problem—character levels are saved, but all items and inventory upgrades are gone. I was logged out of Kongregate, which was strange because usually my browser keeps me logged in. I’ve been playing in Chrome.

Same here just now. Had it all last night about 24 hours ago. I’m also in Chrome, version 21.0.1180.89 m. I updated Chrome today. My characters have their levels and the gear they wear seems to be there, but my bags all reset to not purchased and all the items gathered are gone except the default starter potions. I hadn’t exported any files.

I can’t duplicate it on Chrome. What a nightmare.

I’ve diffed the two most recent versions of my saving code, and it confirmed that I haven’t changed anything, even accidentally. The only difference is the addition of the functions to import/export, and those are only accessed if the user actually clicks those buttons. I’m completely stumped.

Did anyone get a “cannot load inventory” popup box when loading the game (when it first happened)?

All the armor, weapons and potions I had collected including two Legendary sparks. GONE. I just got through gaining most of my items back after the first Chrome update deleted my saved game. This is getting ridiculous.
I didn’t update anything. I’m assuming Chrome did it on its own? Is there an automatic update box that I haven’t un-selected?

I don’t think I’ll be playing this game anymore. I just don’t have the time or patience to do it all again.

I just tested the bug against Internet Explorer and it seems that it occurs only on Chrome. Funny enough – this didn’t happen before, it started only 3 days ago or something like that. My Chrome version is 21.0.1180.89 but as far as I know there were no updates recently so I don’t think it’s the version
Workaround is to export and import your save data but if you forget… say bye-bye to items.

Good insight. I only just realized there was a Chrome update waiting (21.0.1180.89). With the new version, my inventory doesn’t save either. So this is not my fault, for whatever that’s worth.

Now to figure out what I can do about it.

Chrome has been having a lot of issues lately. Almost makes me want to go back to FF.

So if i play using Firefox this problem doesn’t exists?
erfect… that would be very good to know this BEFORE having my full bagged inventory with lots of sparks and epic items inside…. Well it happens…

The inventory is not going to save properly in Chrome until they fix this bug in their version of Flash (Pepper). I would recommend playing in another browser until then.

If you’re willing to dig around, though, you might be able to take the data with you (maybe even including the missing inventory!). You just need to copy the saved files from where Chrome stores them, to where the regular Flash Player (and so every other browser) stores them.

Chrome now saves the SharedObjects in a folder that looks like this: (example is for win7)

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Pepper Data\Shockwave Flash\WritableRoot\#SharedObjects\MVJ4QGC2\chat.kongregate.com\gamez\0014\4419\live\chronicles.swf

(If you’re unsure how to find these folders, searching for “#SharedObjects” should help)

You need to copy all of the save files from there, and paste them here:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\XV5LU3MQ\chat.kongregate.com\gamez\0014\4419\live\chronicles.swf

It’s impossible to predict when weird issues like this will crop up, which is one of the problems with working in Flash. The save files are just so vulnerable.

I added the import/export functions to help give you guys some better control over your data. It was a bit late in this instance, but if you spend a lot of time on the game I recommend using it from time to time to make backups. At least that way you won’t lose everything the next time something (browser, website, whatever) breaks.

It looks like the Chrome-based clones might be okay, at least for now. I’m playing with the Comodo Dragon browser and not having this problem, dunno about Chromium or SRWare Iron.

Kingdom Rush is having the same issue, and the devs posted up a guide for a workaround. If you’d prefer to keep using Chrome, there’s a way to disable the new Flash plugin that is causing these problems.

With that workaround the inventory saves OK. Is there a way to get back the 5 premium sparks that I lost because of this bug?

Unfortunately the only way to get them back is to start fresh. You can go into the options screen, ‘saved data’ pane, and choose ‘clear all saved data’. Everything will be reset, but you will start with the Sparks of Legend.

I can save the game (thanks!) but any store I upgrade automatically resets to it’s basic level between acts…saving doesn’t help and now I have to upgrade them to the highest tier within the act in order to buy anything useful :(

I use chrome and I’ve lost the inventory twice and was very upset :(
But now before leaving the game, I use to save the game and after use “export save” and when I come back I systematically import the save game and I get my inventory back.

That’s not good. Is this even after disabling Pepper Flash?

I don’t know about “pepper” flash? But I disabled the flash plugin as described in the link above and when I reloaded it said I needed flash upgrade to play :(

ok I looked it up – I’m trying it now & I’ll let you know! I see that you need to export your save first because it will reset everything when you disable the plugin!

Exporting / Importing your game (under options "saved data — > “export data” (to save current position) / “import data” (to load previous position). Unlike the other method, the game won’t do this automatically, so you need to manually resave (export/import) your progress each time. I found that this is the way to go because I had also lost my entire progress as well, not just inventory, but characters reset to 0 too! (lost 35 levels of exp!). Seems this is quite common as I’ve read on other threads the same thing happening.

One thing I like about the “import / export” thing that I couldn’t do with the regular in game save is that if I was trying for a particular item in the emporium, I could save some money by just reloading to right before I did the restocking instead of paying to stock a bunch of times and save some money ;)
