hipcheck, I’ve been here since Jun. 12, 2007 and I only have 26 cards. He’s pretty close to me in cards and hasn’t been on Kongregate near as long as me.

wow legend thats surprising. I ve been here since Aug 2007 and i have 29 or something. However i think those that have been faithful and have leveled up deserve to test first.

I still disagree with the tester choosing method and the name but I will shut my mouth because I might lose it :x.
Matrix-style?
“Tell me, Mr. Anderson… What good is a Kongai if you’re unable to… speak?” <insert>
;)
Like many other people, I disagree with your guys method of choosing people. Many people are pretty hardcore gamers, but might not just go for badges. I don’t really see how getting badges can help the community or the game developers(Well, it might help them see what kind of badges people like). You should pick people who you now would give good feedback, like CrazyCruiser or Swiftstrike(first names that popped to my head) and people who are active in the community, like SevereFlame(He got in) or BrutalSociety(Who btw I haven’t talked to in ages but always seems to be online). Now you’ll probably say “But Tl, people who get badges and level up are obviously hardcore gamers”. While that is probably true, not all hardcore/active/serious gamers play games for badges, but for the fun of playing them.
Basically, the staff only want to let in a limited amount of people so their server doesn’t go splat. As such, the quickest, easiest way to do this is to go by level. They’re also trying to be fair by adding those who contribute and if you include “plays a hell of a lot of Kongregate”, I’d say it’s pretty fair.
From what I can extrapolate from the info they’ve given so far, they’re using this method because soon they’re going to be inviting a lot more people in. I think they’re being a bit hush-hush about this because (A) they have a PR team (ie. the devils subordinates… kidding!), (B) they don’t want to say they’ll do one thing then have to take a different course of action.
Also, right now, I think they’re interested more in the raw data the testing produces then absolute quality of testing. Yes, this is a shame, since I’m sure a lot of us would contribute to the beta test quite nicely, but oh well. Perhaps we’re overestimating how much we can contribute?
Even I have to accept that possibility. I’d contribute far more in terms of suggestions and ideas and I’d probably do some non-NDA-breaching write-ups in my Kongai FAQ for those not yet in the beta, but I’ve found few people are receptive to my ideas, usually because they provide changes (ie. work) to an already existing system, or just work in general. I’m not saying people are lazy, but not everyone is absolutely committed to excellence, nor are people too keen to detract from their current goals to add significant polish to something they’ve already done (those may sound like a bold, disparaging claims, but I mean nothing by them; it’s been true in my experience, so I’m just being honest). Once again, a shame, but it just means you should channel your creativity more appropriately.
But take this into consideration: It took about a week for them to move from 50 to 100 testers. They have 20,000 people who signed up for the beta, apparently. Eventually they’ll have to let in all 2 million of the people who use Kong (I’m quoting figures from Emily here).
It may be a little while longer, especially if you’re a low level (<waves>), but you’ll definitely get to play soon enough. You’ll still be able to make the same suggestions and provide the same feedback when you do. The staff will probably be less receptive to feedback since they’ll be getting more of it and they won’t have such “trusted” members testing (for lack of a better word), but they will address anything really good or necessary, I’m sure.
To those who really, really want to get into the beta: If that is your only goal (to speak nothing of this thing we call “life”), you need to level up. As far as I can see, that will increase your chances to get in. It’s unclear whether or not you’ll be let in after an “acceptance round” if you just made it to the acceptable level after it, but there’s probably a good chance you’ll get into the next round.
May the levels be with you. ;)

How is being faithful leveling up, IMO badges had no meaning before now, I was more interested in trying to comment on games and make them more enjoyable. I play a lot of games on this site, I work for badges but get discouraged easily, but would it really matter? If I beta tested, I would be more commited to help make it amazing. I don’t like when things are done poorly or lack good qualities so ya, whether you deserve it or not, it should go to the people who commit to working on it. So has it has become more of a reward then really making the game better and finding bugs? Yes >.> I will just have to wait.

Bruce, I think you just killed to topic, but you did explain everything quite clearly (if not long).

Heh, that’s a recurring pattern I seem to get:
{insert some form of praise about my post}, {insert comment about length}
But yeah, I’ll refrain from posting like crazy in this thread. I just wanted to share my observations with those who aren’t yet in beta (lots of people!), since I understand where they’re coming from and thought I could perhaps help them see what isn’t directly obvious.

about 99.25% of all the people who signed up, so that’s about 19 850.

Yeah. I hope I am in the next batch o’ beta testers. If I get to level 23 I think it is ALMOST (don’t screw me over Emily G) guaranteed, but at 21 or 22 (current level and the level I should hit in a day or so) I am not sure.

My new evil eyed avatar wants in the beta. And you wouldn’t like him when he is angry…. He tends to get evil.

Emily, when you say “many more people” you mean level 21+s by the end of the week, right? RIGHT!!!!!
JK. I shouldn’t get this obssessed over a game, but my anxiety for the beta and for SSBB is really giving me a double dose of “a few days before the game insanity.”

Well, you will get in next round dude. They are releasing it, as far as I can tell, in 5 level batches (below 20 it will probably slow down, but they should hit at the most level 23 next batch, hopefully 21 or 22). So you just have to wait. And I have “spammed” ratings by rating all the games I played and never rated (the top 620 some games list, mostly) so I get points that way. Also, Zeelzy, you will get in when the game is released or at the very last part of the beta, which would be in a couple of months, not five.

A level and a bit away from 26, but I’m not complaining. Less testing, more playing for me :P
