Oldmandorf, we all know that the artist liked big breasts. This has nothing to do with the topic, and I would personally like to see you banned from Kongai for a while, on account that you are to immature to possibly be thirteen. I’m guessing around nine.
Also, to any admins, I would apprieciate it if you would remove his comments and remind him that posting on topic is a requirement.

Not definite origins, but the name “Cain” from Cain Solomon is probably taken from the Biblical story of Cain and Abel, in which Cain gave in to evil and murdered Abel.
Also, “Onimaru” might be a play on the Onimusha video game franchise, which revolves around samurai.

Oh I love Kane and Abel’s story (Even though I’m a non-believer)
It’s funny how the Church Demonizes Cain, But I’m going off topic.
Onimaru could also refer to Yoshimitsu, from Tekken. Both are robotic samurais (or something similar)

Sirlin is a known Guilty Gear and Street Fighter player, and several references have snuck in, including my personal favorite, Popo being a Bridget.

Cornelius Constantine is Slayer from Guilty Gear
Proof: Gentleman-like appearance and a move called pilebunker.

I can’t believe you guys haven’t caught this yet though: Phoebe is definitely Ivy from Soul Calibur. The (lack of) clothes and whip give it all away.
EDIT: Rumiko could be Ibuki from Street Fighter:

UPDATE: (unofficial – this one will not be updated)
Highly Plausable:
Anex as Xena (greg kinda confirmed)
Voss as Blade (greg kinda confirmed)
Yoshi as Ruy
Cornilius as Slayer
Plausable
Ubantu as Richard Stallman (could become highly with more investigation)
Onimaru as ??? (two possibilities, I need one to move it up)
Debunked (Currently, but anything may change)
Rumiko as Ibuki (I need more convincing, too many other options)
Pheobe as Ivy (sorry, i’m gonna need more than a half naked chick with a whip to call this plausable)
Helene as Cassandra or Sophitia (again, there is no shortage of half naked women with swords)
Cain as Kain (I don’t see anything concrete)
Higashi as Heihachi
- – -
Reasoning behind Ivy, Cassandra, Sophitia: These are popular characters yes, but are they Pheobe and Helene, not really. Keep in mind that Helene has “inner demons” and that there are no real indications that Helene and Pheobe were drawn from these particular characters, especially since some characters don’t really have all that specific of an inspiration. There are plenty of half naked women with swords in video games, manga, and literatue. I’ll need more than the popularity of one to call it plausable. Dig deeper.
Reasoning behind Kain: First off, other than a name comprised of two biblical names (Cain, Solomon) there is nothing biblical about Cain the card. Vampirism and football are not in the bible. If I were to venture a guess, I would say that the quarterback is a much stronger indication of the orgins. Second off, the names are too simmilar.

Not every Kongai character can be traced back to Soul Caliber. Please do research, not all the refrences are going to be to popular sources.

Onimaru would fit more into the Onimusha theory more than the Yoshimitsu theory IMO, but it could be possible that both theories could be somewhat correct. No one said a Kongai character must have only 1 inspiration behind it.
Also, the Ivy theory might be a little more plausible if you consider that Pheobe’s and Ivy’s hair color and style are exactly the same.

I guess they just love American football.

I canned the onimusha theory because I could find no character that closely resembled Onimaru. In fact, the americanization of the samuris was… deeply depressing.
Edit: I’ll sleep on moving Ivy up to plausable.

Also, I’m pretty sure Popo isn’t Bridget…. Popo doesn’t use a yoyo, he/she isn’t clearly drawn as a specific gender (personally, I call female due to what appears to be very small breasts, but who knows), the hair is different, and… well, there aren’t ANY similarities.

uh… I was expecting you to say Street Fighter or Guilty gear, but okay :P
BTW:

Ivy can attack at long range, and Phoebe’s a far range specialist.

Cassandra and Sophitia. I dunno, they do look like they fight like you’d think helene would.

Marquis Le Morte could just be a generic undead French nobleman, but is probably influenced by the Marquis de Sade. Besides having the same title, they are both corrupt, sadistic, and have the tendency to escape death.

Alison mentioned Phoebe as being like Elena from Street Fighter, which I think is more likely:

Now that you mentioned Marquis, that does sound like him.
Popo, apart from gender issues, he/she does remind me of David with the slingshot and all.

Ivy doesn’t really use a whip either. It’s more of an sword that extends. The hair seems pretty similar, also.
I’m just really not seeing the Phoebe/Ivy similarities enough to think that Ivy is the inspiration.
