People don’t seem to know the difference between a pyromaniac and an arsonist.

Flag Post

pyromaniac: a person with a mania for setting things on fire

arsonist: Malicious individuals who purposely set fire to the woods without regard to its effects on human life or property. …

But an arsonist could be a pyromaniac right?

Flag Post

Depends. If the arsonist loves fire, that makes him a pyromaniac. If he’s just an asshole who wants to cause some damage, he isn’t.

Arsonphobia: Fear of Fire

Flag Post

That makes no sense.
If anything, it’d be pyrophobia, as pyro means fire in latin.

You do know most phobias on the internet are not real, right?
Plus, at least the top one two are con-spam websites, trying to get you to fall into their trap. Notice that all the text is very generic, and the description is very basic. You do know that they make the same webpage a million times (and probably use a simple database), and edit them so that each one claims to be about a different phobia, but it’s all a load of rubbish.

You’ll listen to WikiAnswers? Dude, that could be so wrong. People will probably answer a question they don’t know about or specialise in because they’ve heard something before (most likely on the internet) or by thinking they know something. Trust me, many things you think are true can be false, I’ve watched enough QI to know that one well.

And the final one… I’ll let Wikipedia explain that.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/-phob-:
“A large number of-phobia lists circulate on the Internet, with words collected from indiscriminate sources, often copying each other. Also, a number of psychiatric websites exist that at the first glance cover a huge number of phobias, but in fact use a standard text to fit any phobia and reuse it for all unusual phobias by merely changing the name.”
Not all you see on the internet is true.

But just a heads up: because anyone can edit Wikipedia it isn’t always true:

>*Wikipedia on Steve Jobs:* In 1986, Jobs bought The Graphics Group (later renamed Pixar) from Lucasfilm’s computer graphics division for the price of US$10 million, US$5 million of which was given to the company as capital.36 The major cause of the low purchase price was George Lucas’ need to finance his 1983 divorce without significantly reducing his stock and control of the Star Wars enterprises.
