I started with the music and went to the game. Despite making a clone of my own, I don’t find the games themselves particularly fun.

For someone to like the music but not the game, makes sense to me. For someone to like the game but not the music just confuses me.

Likewise, I started from Touhou PVs and the music (non-vocal). Later on, I expanded my horizons by playing the games~! Started with Perfect Cherry Blossom b/c Sakuya is <3! From then on, I have tried all the games (except Pre-windows), read Touhou doujins, and listen to various Touhou music rearrangements!

Plus, a favorite character is a good thing to have~! <3 [Yukari & Sakuya] <3

I like most games as long as they’re difficult, so bullet hells have become one of my favorite genres :P.

I think why bullet hells aren’t popular is because:

1. Lack of good multiplayer (the vast majority of games people play nowadays have decent multiplayer)
2. Subpar graphics (although the new Dodonpachi games look freaking amazing, but Cave games and Touhou are Japan-only)
3. No one wants to practice a 4 minute stage for two hours just to beat it
4. Lack of variety gameplay-wise (Scoring in different Touhou games can be very diverse, but it takes months or even years of practice to even consider playing at that level, and in most other games, it’s just chaining and not dying)
5. Lack of good bullet hells in the anywhere outside Japan (RotMG? Lol)

On this note, I find it funny how carelessly some flash games are labeled bullet hells. It makes me expect something that I almost never get.

Ugh, I need to get on board with Touhou scoring again. The only thing I did this summer that was worthwhile was a 3.34 bil run with Reimu Solo on IN. Maybe I’ll break the score counter in UFO, but I promised myself to do that in January…
