Defensive and my karate teacher noticed that and said I should be more agressive then tactical because you get points for hitting the person you have to fight and first to 5 wins. I kind of blocked everything and only attacked when I saw the chance so I won a few,

The idea is to get the first punch. Then start beating the shit out of them while they are recovering.

No, no. I’m fine with the tactics. It’s those styles that bug me. Like Olympic Taekwondo. To me they are a perversion of the art. They’re fine as a sports, to promote fitness and control, but let’s be honest, Karate and TKD are actually designed for self defense. In all those modern ‘light’ variants this is completely overlooked.
