Why does it seem like most companies are re-skinning their games and selling them?

Bethesda:

Elder scrolls and fallout are pretty much the same thing in different dimensions.

Rockstar:

Red dead redemption and GTA4 are extremely similar.

People are willing to pay money for a game they enjoyed, even if it’s only a bad re-skin with a few new things; they make money.

Well, at least they put some effort into it and make it seem like a total conversion mod rather than an overly glorified expansion pack certain game series make… yeah, you know ’em.

I think it’s less the fact that they’re “all similar” than the fact that they all have a minimum of like 5 games per series.

It’s a matter of style.

The developers are telling different stories in different settings, but with very similar game play mechanics.

You wouldn’t expect an author to completely change his diction for every book he writes, would you?
