Hello and Greetings fellow Kongregate members and moderators,
My computer (other) has gotten a virus (most common, trojan horse). I don’t really know though, it runs really slow, Task Manager doesn’t work, downloading doesn’t work. I don’t know what I can do now.. I don’t have the disk for system restore either. It’s a HP computer that is really old (8 years I would say). One day it worked, next day it was infected, I tried to downlowd Avira, AVG, avast!, and Mcafee (sucks I know, please don’t be rude in the comments). None of them would the computer accept it. If you know anyway to fix this, please comment below. Maybe using “Run” or CMD would help, but it says that Task Manager doesn’t work because of a bad image and then shows (0000000×1) or something like that. If you want more information, I’ll post back whenever I have the time. Please help. And please don’t say I’m dumb for not knowing this stuff. =)

I would honestly recommend getting professional help. If you know anybody who knows computers well, ask them if they can help :P
Other than that… I can not help.
(hey cooldude :D)

If its 8 years old, you really should just wipe the hard drive, the amount of junk youve accumulated by now is gigantic, which easily could be bogging down your hard drive making everything slow. Copy any stuff you might need onto a flashdrive/external hardrive and re=instal your OS from scratch, should help your computer A LOT. Also, if thats still slow, or you just want it to go faster, install Ubuntu (linux – free), and that will run faster than and windows OS you could have…
if you dont want to wipe it, i cant really help you with just getting rid of the virus if youve already tried installing some cleaners… i can recomend some others to try though if you want: “SpyBot: Search and Destroy” and “Ad-Aware” are the two that I use, both really good. You could also try CCleaner, but thats not really made for viruses, just for cleaning crap. (Thats what the first C stands for…)

One thing that’ll help: Boot it up in safe mode. Then do a virus sweep. This will find and destroy it, if anything can.

Try booting it in safe mode then scan it for viruses…
Do you know the name of the virus?…
Bit Defender is a good Anti Virus program…

I have no virus scanner; I’m too cheap.
I suggest looking online for a recovery disc, and then ordering and using that on your computer. That’s what I had to do when mine got a virus. :/

aC is usually pretty good with these things. If i am correct the trojan virus is one of the worst viruses you can get on your computer.

Use online scanner, and see what viruses are in your computer. Google for deletion programs for these viruses or manual instructions on how to delete them.

8 years old?
Save all important files you know are uninfected, and wipe wipe wipe that harddrive.
Did you even have an anti-virus in the first place?
Also, system restore doesn’t require a disk. Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Not that using system restore would’ve been a good idea, as some viruses can hide in it.
Or you can just google the name of the virus, then ‘removal’ and figure out how to take it off.

if it is eight years old You should get a new computer but not a keyborad(That would help keep everything this as gotten. Does that help you at all?

The computer is a laptop, not a desktop, and the computer has been wiped out twice I think, it’s gotten a virus that many times.. Now this time, I don’t know how to stop it because when I tried to download all of those AVs that I said, they wouldn’t install because of the virus. And no Marh, no friends are good with computers. Even the Task Manager doesn’t work (big bummer). The internet works, I’ll try some online antivirus scans, if they’re not viruses.. Are they viruses? Please give me some safe links for some free scans online.

AVG Anti-Virus! Get it! Search for Viruses! Remove the Trojan! Search again! It will still be there! Click remove! Once you have done it a few times! it should be gone!
