I would say that Dead Space is a great example of the Horror Video Game Genre. It had both the physical, gorey, bloody horror of the necromorphs and the psychological horror of moving through an abandoned space station and learning the story of how everything went mad, plus always looking over your shoulder for any enemies.

Dead Space pretty much regressed into excessive gore, disturbing concepts, and more fucking jumpscares.
The jumpscares weren’t even that creative. They were all really predictable.
They have the eerie, foreboding feeling down, but they don’t do anything new or innovative with it.
