This site, to me, is a wanna be newgrounds.

Wrong.It’s the “Youtube of Gaming”.If it is,then why don’t they accept Animations here?

Proof it that it’s a wanna be Newgrounds,and no saying “Just because it accepts games.”.Aren’t other sites,like Mofunzone or Miniclip the same then if you say that?

Maybe its actually like, a gay version of newgrounds cause somebody from there reffered me to the site. And I do not even know what the Sylicas person said or was trying to say. I have to admit that the chatroom thing on the side is pretty cool but every single game here is from it. Plus, it is so much easier to post games on newgrounds, it takes about 1 minute. Right now I am going to make a forum about it there. Go check. And no offense of what I am saying if it is to you because I dont mean it in a bad way. (No, im serious). But I really am serious.

What’s your logic behind this being a wanna-be newgrounds?
Because it’s focused on flash based videogames which newgrounds also has?
That seems like a bit of a generalization, like saying every search engine is a “wanna-be google”.

Plus, it is so much easier to post games on newgrounds, it takes about 1 minute

You must realize that game developers put their games onto many sites to get maximum exposure. Just because you saw a game on Newgrounds doesn’t mean that any site also featuring that game is copying Newgrounds… it’s ludicrous.

Newgrounds, in my opinion, can get your flash a heap of views. But not nesicarily good views. Most of the people there are ***gots and don’t have anything else to do but blam and write crappy reviews on a submission you’ve put your heart and soul into. Also, the points on NG are like some huge competition, everyone will go through the newest 50 flash submissions and either vote a 5 on them or a 0, without even looking at your flash file. I Much prefer Kongregate – Nice community, Happy people (well, for the most part….cough people who don’t like Kongregate in this forum thread cough but they can easily just be shunned and ignored. Thanks Kongregate for making such a great community for us to enjoy.

Hahah, there’s a lot of that on Kongregate too, but probably to a lesser extent.

I gotta agree with BDSFlash about the Kongregate community, it’s full of great people, and in general, a very nice community.

Well, one thing. I think NG is a lot better than this but the one bad thing about newgrounds is that people always brag about how they took drugs and crap like that even tho they are only like 12-15 on there profile. Also, the porn is annoying but other then that it is awesome.

Heck,I wonder why people are thinking of Newgrounds being competitive with Kongregate.We are NOT in a competition right now!

Please,if JimG could actually talk with Tom privately,then it is possible that there would be no competition.And yes,that did happen,the talking part.

I find that quite funny since this thread is still not even two weeks old (7 days old when you posted the above). You post that on NG then come here and act wishy-washy. Make up your mind. You are free to like NG and support it since most people here do, but dont come here to bash.

Also, in regards to the same games being here, thats because the authors who have posted at NG choose to put their games here. So it seems most of the good authors support Kongregate, but just a few NG fanboys with tunnel vision are the ones who disagree. Many are probably from the same group of people that you hate who brag about their drug habits.

You can choose to like both sites ya know. Or you can be biased for no reason.

I personally like Kongregate. No porn, no flash movies – just games, the forums are cleaner (NG BBS can get pretty vulgar), the people are friendly, etc etc. If I want flash movies though, I use Newgrounds.

And as I’ve said, the site is in beta. A site thats only months old is going to lack a whole lot compared to a site thats been around for ages. Kongregate will get fleshed out a LOT more as time goes on. Frankly, I was surprised it got the interest it did in the small time frame.

I take it back. The feedback I’ve gotten here on Kongregate lately has been rather unhelpful, rude, and far worse than the feedback I’ve gotten from Newgrounds so far. Maybe it’s because it’s a challenge and there’s a card at stake, but I’ve never seen a bunch of people complain so much and so loudly about a few minor things. One person complains because there’s no pause feature. Did he even play the game?!? It’s ‘P’!!

The feedback I’ve gotten from NG so far, and from other places, has mostly been pretty good.

And I didn’t get any little dumbasses from Portugal cursing at me in Spanish, either.

I’d say thats likely part of it. I think its a bad idea to start a challenge with a brand new game, since it means users will be forcing themselves to play something that is unfamiliar to them – and as a result get more frustrated at minor issues when they cant complete it. They will then blame you and your game a lot more, since a Kongregate card is at stake.

Personally I just gave up on accomplishing some challenges (including PODs) since the challenge is a bit extreme and it forces me to learn a brand new game in a short amount of time. I dont like to be forced to play games, particularly in a small time frame.

So I would avoid releasing a game and making it a challenge right away. It generates more negativity. Once you are frustrated, you go into complain mode.

Also, take the feedback with a grain of salt :) You can often learn how to improve on it that way ;)

Wow, the BBS topic can be so incredible. And hey, when did Dicko (BDSFlash’s “real name”) become so wise? NG is a pretty crazy website but it’s violence became boredom. Kongregate has a bunch of WEROFLBECAUSEOFTHEM human. I have played lots of violence games and are bored of them. What I like is the adventures of the games such as Okami (PS2) and of course, FPA. Newgrounds doesn’t have that anymore and I feel bad about it.

By the way, it’s pretty weird to have a level 5 NG user to get “bold”. I do agree with someone that posted and you just want attention. Getting attention is easier in Kongregate than in NG so do what stuff do you like except being offensive of course!

Both the card and the fact that it’s featured contribute to a lot of this. Nothing kills a game’s ratings and positive comments like being featured on the front page. I think it’s an issue with people’s expectations and with the other games they’re comparing the featured games to.

If you directly compare the comments from Newgrounds vs. Kongregate as a whole, then yeah, the difference is pretty clear, and the Newgrounds comments are friendlier. But if you look at the comments on Kongregate from back before the game was featured, they’re a lot nicer than they are now.

I’m curious to see what kind of comments POD will get if it makes it to the front page of Newgrounds. I’m also curious about how the comments might change on Kongregate once the challenge is over and another game is featured.

If POD made the front page of NG, it would most definately not have as many negative reviews. You have to consider that the majority of the people who have left negative and even harsh feedback are people that, if they had been on NG playing this, wouldn’t have tried over and over to play and beat all 15 levels. It’d be a more “hmm, this game is pretty cool. I think I’ll play until i lose”. They lose and there’s nothing much to complain about really since they didn’t feel obligated and driven to try and try. It was a nicely put together few moments of fun. 5 STARS! But, needing a picture of that cool green-haired babe in their profile, the fun would wear off after the first couple of failures and then it’s time to pick out the flaws and throw them at the creator as an excuse to why they can’t handle this game. The card at stake is almost the whole reason for the excessive criticism and the ratings. Notice the ratings began to drop pretty heavily after this was made to a challenge.

I beat it quickly and easily and I personally think it’s a great game. I’m sure many others would too if they weren’t “forced to try and beat it” which might be beyond their capabilities, especially as Coder said “in such a small timeframe” making them feel they have to try over and over almost non stop renderring it monotonous, boring, and causes a loss of patches of hair.

Exactly. Players want the card, so they keep playing. The game and Indie are becoming the scapegoat for their frustration at not getting the card. Players would not get to the point of wanting to break their monitors if there wasnt a challenge like this (though there still would likely be a little frustration due to some of the game play which needs tweaking).

Personally, I dislike this challenge, as well as the last. Being forced to play a game and beat it in a short time frame is NOT fun to me. It becomes work instead of fun. After the last challenge, I just said ‘forget it’ when this one came. I like to play games when I feel like it, and so do most players – which is the source of much of this frustration. they are being told ‘beat it, and beat it NOW’ and are failing for reasons that they dont understand. Its a shame much of the challenge frustration is being directed to a good game.
