Are Slipknot the best metal band in the world?

There’s really no way to judge there being any “best” band. Some people may love it, but others may simply despise the band. I, personally, do not like Slipknot at all.

They’re Nu Metal, not metal. Screaming and yelling doesn’t make a band metal.

Slipknot isn’t anything eyeopening so it isn’t the best metal band. I’m sure it’s not even close to the best nu metal band either.

slipknot is indeed a nu metal band but not metal as we think. metal would be lamb of god and such. hardcore would be bullet for my valentine and killswitch engage. as a guitarist i find metal to be any thing with speed or tramolo picking, screamed or growled vocals downed tuned guitars and fast drum beats. metal, nu metal or hard core all have these and are all classified a metal (by the way metal is my favorite style of music). thanks

Hardcore is indeed a form of punk, not metal. Hardcore mixed with thrash is known as crossover, and includes bands such as DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, and SOD.

If you think Slipknot is the new millennium metal band, then you really have no idea what metal is. Last time I looked, Iron Maiden recently completed a sold out worldwide tour, and released a dvd documenting said tour that reached number one charts around the globe. Not to mention the fact that the first 7 Iron Maiden albums are classics that are way better than Slipknot could ever hope to release.

No, if you really want to find out what the current trends in the underground scene are, you don’t look at mallcore fags. The current trends seem to be leaning towards a revival in thrash as well as old school death metal – with new thrash bands like Municipal Waste, Toxic Holocaust and the like, and old school death metal bands like Hail of Bullets and The Chasm. Hail of Bullet’s …Of Frost and War is killer, by the way. Martin Van Drunen ist Krieg.

Black Metal is still as strong as ever, of course, and continues to grow at an exponential rate. The last Beherit album was well received , and I’ve been itching like crazy to get my hands on the new Destroyer 666 album.

I don’t hate Slipknot. I just don’t care about them. There are way better metal bands out there worth caring about to bother hating on some pathetic mallcore band.

And since when does the amount of fans equate to whether or not a band is good? Does this mean that the Jonas Brothers and Britney Spears also have musical merit? Underground metal is just that – underground. You can’t judge how good a band is by album sales.
