Actually, Nazi scientist would have developed the nuke first, but they cut all funding for it in favor of “Die Glocke” or “The bell”. Nova 6 depicted in Black ops, is very similar to “Mustard gas” which was developed during WW1, although the effects of mustard gas were not nearly as devastating as Nova 6.

Nova 6 is as real as you and me, and the days of the USSR and The Second Great War was the point in time where evil came and brought with it Nova Gas, it’s real and has been used, no globally but in tests.

Nova 6 is probably based on Russian “Novichok” agents. These are nerve gasses developed in Russia near the end of the cold war, as a next generation of chemical weaponry. The results such gasses would have are actually quite different though. Being exposed to them simply kills you dead. No visible side effects. As for the Nazis, they had quite a large stockpile of tabun and sarin (nerve gasses). Those have more side effects (runny nose, painful eyes, difficult breathing), but also kill you dead before you have time to complain about that. Also, most of these gasses are invisible.
