Yes the tragic news has come that Michael Jackson is dead. He went into cardiac arrest then fell into a deep coma. He died when he got to hospital.
Share what you feel about this, and share your thoughts with your thoughts of his life.

God damn. No matter how odd he was in his later life, he truly was one of the best singers and a star in his life when he was younger and didn’t get surgery as often.

This belongs to Off-Topic, really, why did you post this here? Anyways, I don’t care about him.

Aioria, you could at least show a bit of respect for the dead, regardless of whether or not you know them.

People need to stop making such a huge fuss over his death. We should remember him for what he did during his life, and the music he created. Be thankful for the music he made, and be happy that such a genius lived to create it.

Although he did make some amazing music in his early life, all I can say now is:
One less pedophile in the world!!!

You posted the same thing on Facebook. I’m sure I got the message. :P Also, EvilHamster, since the man has passed on, let’s try not to bring up old incidents. He passed away, let’s show some respect for now since this is indeed the thread, and keep your thoughts to yourself.

I wish people like this would learn some respect for the dead. Sure, a lot of people of the younger generation may remember him for acts of molestation and whatnot, but you should remember a person for the good things they did, like the music he made.
You don’t see people at a funeral saying things like: “Peggy Wilson was a horrible person. She scratched my car and never gave back that ten bucks she owed me. For that, good riddance.”, you see the people saying the good things they remember about that person.
Again, respect for the dead…

Great man, but did some pretty ugly things. I’m sad he’s gone though. I think everyone will miss him.

Sorry, but I don’t think we get to use “respect for the dead” to silence those who have a different perspective about this man’s life. People do not have an obligation to speak well of people who did great harm during their lives – - especially those who were unrepentant. If someone believes MJ was a pedophile (a reasonable conclusion, given the evidence), there is no obligation to remain silent about that. In fact, I believe that silence in the face of unpunished crimes – - crimes that had real victims – - is disrespectful to the living.
MJ is someone who raises a lot of different feelings. Nobody needs to pull punches. The reason people at a funeral don’t (usually!) disparage the dead is out of respect for the living, grieving relatives. Not out of some obligation to the corpse or his ghost. ;-)
EDIT: Also, I acknowledge the brilliance of his career. Some amazing work. Like Wagner, I can admire the muse while reviling the vessel.

Ach, I guess I sounded pretty one-sided in my previous post. I wasn’t trying to get anyone to think of only the good things that Michael did, but rather to see both ends of the spectrum. :/
I dont know why the post came out so one-sided, maybe just because dd790’s post was kind of insulting to the man. Or it could just be me, the dead isn’t one of my favorite subjects to talk about.
The world has become a little better. One less child molester is a good thing
What I mean by dd790 being “insulting” to MJ was that you should never really be happy that someone died; When a person passes away it never really is a “good thing”.
I see Alci’s points though (regarding the “disprespect to the living”), and I agree.

And this belongs in the “music” forum

Plat, I also didn’t mean to be harsh. I respect your working to keep things civil – - and I do agree that it tends to be unseemly when people react to death (any death) with joy. :-)

So Platinum, are you saying that if somebody has only had an extreme negative impact on your life, you shouldn’t be happy that they died?
I smell a new debate arising in the SD board.

No.
There’s a difference between “I’m happy that that person is no longer a threat to me”/“I’m happy that person won’t harm another person”, and “I’m happy that person is dead”.
You should never be happy a person is dead. It’s just not right.

This does belong in the OT but that doesn’t matter now. What upsets the most is he had such potential and then who knows what happend. The sad things is he died trying to put his life back on track. He wanted people to remember him for his music and not his problems and I know I won’t,but what else that bothers mei s his death is the fourth celebrity death this month.

Just to end the debate about people being happy about another’s death, deathreape has kindly created a thread in the Serious Discussion forums about that same topic, and here is the link if you’d like to talk about that:
Happiness from another’s death
Now, on topic. :)

I know this is a big, serious topic, which is why this thread should belong somewhere else.
I think someone should move this to other forums.

When it is just a regular person who supposedly molests someone everyone wants him to die but just because it is micheal jackson we should not look at him any differently. Yes he was very talented but that was in the past, and we should treat people for who they really are and not what they were 20 years ago.
