yeah, yesterday, I lost 500 scrap metal because a pirate came after me. I was farming, and he shows up out of nowhere, I fought him off, getting him to retreat, then hightailed to the nearest safe area, healing as I went, as I had like 100 health left. he caught up with me next to the safe area, and finished me off nearly immediately. it was the most fun I had all game. the rest of the game is quite repetitive, fighting off hoardes of weak enemies. PvP does make the game 10 times harder, and that is a good thing.
also, I have spent a long time upgrading shields and armour so I could survive. about to have both at level 6 and not sure what to upgrade after that. probably a weapon other than beamer

PvP sux, because pirates/enemies are not shown on radar.

Actually 2 things about PvP:
1) enemies are not marked on radar. I’d prefer to even have an arrow like for planets/stations
2) there’s lvl range for PvP, but no equip balancing, that sets those, who donate up in ladder.

Non-consentual pvp is like non-consentual sex. :(
Seriously.
The attacker looks for an “easy mark” in order to satisfy some abberant desire to fluff up thier own superiority or some other quirky ego issue. (I’m not familiar with this mindset. enlighten me….)
The victim very probably doesn’t stand much of a chance even in a straight up fight let alone a surprise attack, and will likely feel used, violated and pretty put off by the whole experience.
Opt-in pvp (ie: only those in hostile mode can attack other players or be attacked) would be a solution.
People who want to play pvp can, while those who prefer pve can do so without being harrassed.
Whine chorus in 3…2…1…

Looks like another ‘redshift’. That game is so dead that maybe one or two people are playing at any given time. This game looks like it is heading in the same direction. PvP is so unbalanced that it completely takes the joy out of a game that I was just starting to get into. Its not even PvP. Its more like ambush and die. Usually by the time you realize you are being attacked you are dead. They should really make a separate pvp zone, so all the bullies can play with each other. Maybe have on option to turn off pvp. Of course the developers will probably ignore these posts. Kefkathemad1’s arguments seem logical and valid I don’t feel like rage quitting, so I will quit before I get too attached to what looked like a fun game. Some people just want to enjoy a game, not just spend hours hunting down unsuspecting players. Check out ‘redshift’. See what happens to uncontrolled pvp games. They die. I guess I will just remove my bookmark and find another game to play.

I somewhat agree with Junior. The game gives advantage for being a pirate, since one can hunt down other players navigating using the minimap. There is no such advantage if you settle to farm minerals, since there is no way to fight the mobs using just the minimap. This results into situation where there is no alarm when the pirate suddenly attacks and kills you. A problem that is not an issue for pirates.

So, i’ve been playing for a while now and noticed that there seems to be less active pvp in the green zone than the beginner zone. Also people seem to only prey on noobs in kritillian, even though i haven’t been in it much lately. Every system past it has more friendly people that pvp with others that actually want to pvp.

I hate piracy in general, especially when it so clearly is at the cost of honest farmers… It really is hard on a lower level.
However, the idea isn’t bad. Its the implementation that sucks. Honestly 400 scrap isn’t THAT much unless you are a low level. Its the fact that you can be set so far back by a pirate, then stalked mercilessly until you give up for a few hours that bothers me.

I’m so late in this topic that my opinion probably doesn’t even matter anymore, but how about instead of one side bitching to or about the other, some tips are given on how to PVP? What weapons should someone use, what specs should they look into? I don’t mind PVP when there is clear progression, when eventually you can become equal or better than the ones who always killed you, so how about it? And those of you who defend just killing off low levels because it’s fun, easy, and they don’t stand a chance, does it really get you off that much? If I were in the position to just murder everything on the map I’d look at it exactly how I look at the spawners when I’m farming, just tedious and far too easy. If it really gets you stiff to run around murdering everyone who didn’t spec their ship right, then you’re just a dick anyway, and we need either a heads up or a way to defend our PVE speced asses from the people like that. Just saying.

Farm in zones where PVP is turned off for your lvl.
After lvl 15 PVP is not a big problem. Usually people pvp below lvl 15 using their alts just for fun.
Improve your engines and shields (dont forget to improve main weapon first) – that will allow you to run in case of high-lvl pirate

I like the PvP here, though there’s some things that could be fixed. If it’s rough in an area I can always go farm steel in Durian. The group exploit needs to get fixed. I probably made a guy quit the game by joining his group while hostile, making like I was helping him with a boss. Then I left the group after getting close and blew him away. A low move like that shouldn’t be available. Harsh PvP ain’t for everyone, but it can make a successful game. Look at EVE, Dark Orbit, etc. I like the predator prey rush myself.
