What does this mean for me? You will always be able to play your favorite games on Kongregate. However, certain site features may suddenly stop working and leave you with a severely degraded experience.
What should I do? We strongly urge all our users to upgrade to modern browsers for a better experience and improved security.
We suggest you install the latest version of one of these browsers:

I don't know what you can do to prevent this error. I don't have it. Do you have any plugins which might block crossconnections or are you behind a proxy?
Firefox removed the support for the webplayer with the latest version. This causes players to lose the local save because the webgl-version can't load it. It tries to auto-load the online save, but if that fails, you start a new game. However, there is a way to get back the local save: First go to %Appdata%, then to \Roaming\Unity\WebPlayerPrefs\chat_2ekongregate_2ecom. Then open prefgamez-0021-8178-live-build_2eunity3d.upp in a texteditor and copy everything after AutoSaveNULNUL until either the end or the next black character. Then copy this into a new file and then you should be able to load it in kong to get your old save back.
Ryu, you're amazing for responding (and quickly, too)! :)
I found the file, but Firefox still refused to load the game. I'll have to investigate further. Your post made me think, though. I logged on to Kongregate using Chrome. Chrome let me load the online save. :) I was then able to download a save ".txt" file as a local backup. In Chrome, the "choose your gender" opening screen sometimes pops up for a moment, but then it loads the game as normal.
Long story short, I have my old save back. Thank you!
(BTW, I gave your game 5 stars.)
