Topic: General Gaming / Flash Games Save Data?

Sometimes, this can be the developer’s fault. The saved game data is stored in a folder with the name of the .swf (I’m not sure if this is due to the way Kongregate’s system works, or if it’s something inherent in Flash), so if the developer uploads a new version and renames the .swf while doing so, then the save location will also change and the game won’t be able to find the old saves.

As an example, this happened with Hostage Crisis: when the developer updated the API in order to get badges, the filename also changed, and so the saved game location changed from gamez\0059\5626\live\hc.swf to gamez\0059\5626\live\hc__11_.swf.

Unfortunately, this often happens precisely when a game gets badges, so people will find themselves losing their data just when they want it most to get badges! Obviously the solution is to discourage developers from changing their .swf name more strongly (I don’t know if there are any provisions for doing so).

The good news is that your data isn’t lost — it’s still in the old directory, and so you can usually just copy it to the new directory and get all of your progress back. (Sometimes, of course, developers will update their game so as to break old save files; there’s not very much you can do about this, of course.)

Well that’s a pickle… I doubt it’s really them though, even if your account was compromised I don’t believe they would send you 2-3 emails a day. I have in the past gotten phishing emails from “Jagex” and “Blizzard”, but not seeing them I can’t tell you that yours are phishing. It just seems odd that they would email you that much (assuming you aren’t exaggerating), even if your account was compromised.

This is a tough one for me to decide because Crash Bandicoot and Spyro were always the top two classic games in my childhood but in all fairness I think the newer those games got the worser. Naughty Dog was the first company to develop the Crash Bandicoot series and were the best! Spyro games were always good but very repetitive in the end so I decided to stick with good old Crash Bandicoot! :D

So, let me answer some questions here.

1) Kongregate made us disable the import save function for the Kong version. Save importing only works on the download version on our website.
2) Bonus levels – right now we only have one at 33 stars, but we will add more in the future, and anyone who bought the game will of course get free updates.
3) If any customers lost their save files when we switched to the kreds version, we’ll gladly offer a free coupon for the download version and will reconstruct your save file based off of your description of where you were in the game.
4) Any customers who bought the game on Kong who also want the download version can get a $5 off coupon (the amount you paid on Kong) just by emailing your kong username to leveluplabs@gmail.com

If the bonus levels are not showing up and you DO have 33 blue stars, then that is a bug and we’ll fix it in an upcoming update.

Ok guys, single player has been a highly requested addition and it’s well on its way to being implemented. CPU controlled bots have now been added to the game, and can play in games alongside human players. In about a week or two I’m going to add a full single player campaign, starting out with a tutorial level to get players used to the controls, then running through some of the levels against increasingly tough AI players. Let me know what you think!

Years ago I created a Runescape, WoW, and another mmorpg account using a single disposable email account. HATED Runescape and WoW so never played after creating the accounts. Recently Runescape has started sending me DAILY SPAM stating someone is trying to see “my” account. ha ha ha Who would be stupid enough to buy an account NEVER PLAYED?? I cannot log in to let the stupid Runescape people know to just delete the account since I don’t recall the game name nor login. Yet, EVERYDAY I receive 2-3 SPAM from them. As I still use the disposable account for one of the games I play (has no option to change email addresses or I would have done so already), what other options do I have? I feel sorry for Runescape players as I’m sure the Customer Service bites. Why else would there be NO WAY to contact them without an account????
