Fallout New Vegas tips?

So I acquired a copy of Fallout: New Vegas for the Xbox 360 today, and I was hoping if someone could answer a few questions before I play. When I level up, how should I allocate skill points to assure that I get the most out of my playthrough? What weapons are the best? Anyone got any tips for a Fallout newbie? Much appreciated.

Anti-Material rifle sounds great, where can I find it?

BROTIP: don’t use the robot follower because he is glitchy and will randomly disappear forever!

Thanks man. I’ve learned brotip one and two from playing call of duty, but I will remember to not trust robots!

What about levelling up? I don’t want to cripple my character or miss any speech checks. What skills are most important to focus on?

Repair, first and foremost. Then, whatever offensive skill you’re using the most, which I suggest to be Guns. After that, you probably want either lockpick or science. Then, whatever you want to use, I guess.

Thanks for the tips, I will keep this in mind whenever I level up. I’m going to start a new game in a bit, thanks a lot for the help!

No problem ^^

Also, never get perks that raise your SPECIAL stats and the other stats. If they raise HP or how fast your autoaim recharges, go ahead and upgrade those if you want.

Most importantly: Choose perks that are useful. Don’t get the cannibalism perk if you aren’t planning on eating delicious corpses.

I liked Fallout 3 but Fallout New Vegas was a disappointment.

Wait until an inevitable GotYE is released, Beny071.
I’m not playing/buying it at all until they have.

Don’t get speech to 100 you will never need it.

You actually might need it, I’ve used multiple choices that are at 100 speech. Also, you can take the dog robot, I’ve never seen him blow up. It’s ED-E that’s really glitchy. You can also get past that glitch by buying the Dead Money DLC, as it sends your teammates back to their safehouses.

Wat i did was put my luck to 8 (do watever u want with the other 2 points) and then i used the perk were u can get one Special point and i put it on luck and then i went to the strip and ended up getting over 50,000 caps from a slot machine mishap. i got just below the limit and then went to the slots and then got 3 oranges on my 3rd try betting the max so its a pretty good stradegy. u do watever the hell u want with the money. i bought som guns but there wasnt that big of a selection from most the shops :/.

to be honest, the whole “gun mods” gimmick killed the weapon system. In Fallout 3, you usually found yourself using unique weapons that you repaired with normal weapons. In New Vegas, unique weapons are pointless because you can just put weapon mods on the common version and it will turn out stronger than any unique weapon you can find.

Also, the crafting mechanic is pointlessly complicated. Especially for ammo.

I barely used mods and it didn’t change the experience, the only thing disappointing to me was dead money…lame dlc

I have to completely disagree with you. I found Dead Money storyline to be way better than the main quest line. It may not please players that aren’t hardcore (as I am). On the other hand it doesn’t add any noteworthy weapons to the game, like Operation Anchorage did in Fallout 3 (it’s extremely annoying to play focusing on energy weapons if you don’t have the Gauss Rifle) – on the other hand the Chinese Stealth Suit is completely overpowered. But since New Vegas already has a decent number of weapons to choose from that wasn’t a issue.

BROTIP: don’t use the robot follower because he is glitchy and will randomly disappear forever!

ED-E is too damn powerful when he’s upgraded by the Followers of the Apocalypse.
But I agree. He’s glitchy as fuck.

Tip for OP.

Step 1: Enter Silver Rush
Step 2: Save game
Step 3: Take Plasma Caster to the toilet/back room
Step 4: Steal Plasma Caster
Step 5: Save Game
Step 6: Load game saved in step 2.
Step 7: Repeat step 3 and 4.

BANG! Fully repaired Plasma Caster.

Step 8: Fuck shit up.

Also, get a power armor.
It’s very good to have in this game.

You can skip the last Boss battle (Last two if needed)

But I usually Tag Guns, Repair and Speech.
I work on these skills and I also work on Medicine (Stims being in short supply)
I do many Side Quests to work on experience

Important perks for my type of Character
Jury Rigging This causes you to save countless caps on repairs, Also having the required repair level can easily progress you some levels

Weapon Handling: This is a great perk for low strength Characters because it helps with the strength requirements.

Explorer: This just make it easier to find stuff.

If you have any problems with followers disapearing use the elevator in vault 21 (or 22, 20 something anyway) I find that that normally helps. Also try using www.thevault.com and just search the thing which has a problem and normally there is a list of bugs at the bottom of the page with ways to fix it (if there is a way)

focus your fire on a single part – legs, tail, claws, etc. Each part only has so much health, once you wear that out you do more damage.
VATSRTFM
AP rounds – using the proper ammo type, such as armor piercing, can make a big difference.
upgrade – your character and your guns
guns – get better ones, make sure they are kept in good repair
money – some of the above will require caps, the easy way to make money at the start of the game is salvage – gather everything you come across (until you are just about full), go to a vendor, and sell/trade away the crap you aren’t using (including ammo). This was actually a hard lesson to learn. I liked to have a large variety of guns, but this play through I am only carrying what I “need”: a hold out pistol (later in game), a shot gun, my normal rifle, and a heavy hitter (AMR) – you can grab a lot more crap when your kit is only a fraction of your carry weight. After you get some money you can be a bit more discerning, only grabbing items that have a value:weight ratio of 10:1, 15:1, or even 20:1 (I don’t bother with much salvage anymore)
sneak – you can earn an attack bonus if you are sneaking – but that will depend on your character type.
