I pledge the following:
For every 10,000 gameplays over 500,000 gameplays in Music Catch I will personally donate $1 to the United Nations World Food Programme. I will do this until August 31st, 2008.
I hope gamers and developers will join me in pledging to donate to charity in a similar fashion. We can make Kongregate for Charity a reality on our own!

I’ll get some extra games in right now for this, that’s a real good idea especially since Music Catch is such a fun, well made game ^^

this is very nice of you… im wondering why you’re doing this, but hey, i’m not complaining.
Since Kongregate is going to get some financial gain from this, mabye you could get a matching donation from them!

True, I recall reading the same topic weeks ago and someone posted a link to free rice or something… Couldn’t you just bump the old one instead of creating new ones every few weeks?

Hey Everyone, sorry to keep making new threads. I was trying to figure out the best format to bump the thread while updating totals and I finally got it figured out so I wont be starting any new threads any time soon. The decision to make Music Catch the game I donate to this month was kinda arbitrary. It’s still a popular game and a lot of fun so I thought people would enjoy playing it. The whole point of me doing this is I have been trying to get Kongregate to implement a charity functionality. Emily Greer told me that they would start development on it maybe by Christmas. However, I figured out a way the Kongregate community of gamer and developers could do it themselves. Just like this, pledging to donate such and such amount for charity for a given amount of time.
Now you might wonder why don’t I just go play free rice? I am the head of an organization at my college called the Free Rice Initiative. We help spread the word about FreeRice and we hold FreeRice competitions. The thing is, I am a bit of a gamer at heart and the FreeRice game just doesn’t cut it for me after a while. So I really want to be able to play games like Music Catch for charity instead. I intend to keep this up for as long as I can without going broke. Next month the game will probably be Filler or Age of War seeing how their also some of my favorites.
Once again sorry for deleting the old thread so many times. And thanks for all of your support. Helpful comments are always welcome!

Hey Everyone! Just a heads up! I am thinking of supporting Amorphous+ next. Let me know what you think, and please, please talk to your developer friends! If any developer wants to donate some of their game revenue to charity we can get the word out about your game and have it played more!!! Thanks for all your support and keep playing Music Catch!!

That’s a great idea! Amorphous+ is a huge game. People play it multiple times to get the everything done.

How much do you make for every 10,000 page views your game gets? Kongregate pays game hosters a cut of the ad revenue, yes?

I don’t make any money from Music Catch. It isn’t my game. This is my way of encouraging everyone to participate for charity and hopefully one day get developers to join me in my cause. I want more games to be available to play for charity like freerice.

Sorry but I fail to see the point, wouldn’t it be simplier if you just donated? (without the “visit the game’s page” thing I mean)

My hope is to have others join me in donating based on gameplay. The best scenario would be to have developers donate a percentage of their revenue to charity. I am trying to break the ice on donation ideas.
Also, think about FreeRice.com. It would be much easier just to donate instead of playing the game, but thats not the point! The point is to learn vocabulary and help hungry people at the same time. The whole idea is to make people feel better about gaming and have fun donating to charity. Pretty good combo I think. :-)

But seriously I love this thread. It’s an excellent concept and it brings charity to casual gaming. More threads like this are needed.

This should be an option for ad revenue:
Game:
Charity:
Percentage:
Then it will automatically pay the charity the percentage for the ad revenue in gameplay. (Are you reading this mods and admin?)
