This is my new favorite game on Kongregate, so I thought I’d start a thread about it. Big question: has anyone managed to beat world 4? I have never even seen the boss. This level is a big jump in difficulty over the previous levels. Speaking of Bosses, I haven’t managed a ‘perfect’ defeat of the 3rd boss yet (meaning I don’t use any missles, and I still have a shield after the level is over). I can beat the first boss perfectly regularly. I have only perfectly beat the 2nd boss once or twice.
What do people think is the best weapon? I used to like rockets, but their slow firing rate has started to annoy me. Lasers are nice, but they only go straight forward. The basic gun seemed bad to me at first, but in the higher levels of weaponry when it starts getting a good spread it is great… probably my favorite for weapon level 4 and up. It’s backwards firing is great for taking out the boats on level 2. Flame is strange… I keep changing my mind on whether I like it or not.
So, any other Alpha Force fans out there that want to share their thoughts?
Flame is odd. Sometimes I dislike it for the same reason as lasers: it only goes straight forward. But you can do some cool tricks with how it hangs in air for a long time after you move. Also, when there’s an enemy that takes a few hits, flame is great for just eating through their shielding. Also, I really like it for cutting through enemy ships in formation. But it’s lagginess is a bother, and it is terrible for when guys appear behind you.
I love this game too, and I’ve beaten it a few times. At the beginning of the game, I don’t worry too much about what colour a powerup is before picking it up. I just try to collect as many as possible, to power up the weapons as fast as I can. Once I get the weapon up to level 7, which is the max, I pretty much stick to the missiles, which I think is the best overall weapon. It’s not the best for any one thing, but it gives you decent spread and decent forward power at the same time.
One thing that I didn’t notice until I had played the game a bunch of times: you can get powerups from the fast planes that fly in one at a time from the right side, not just from the big guys and the usual groups of small enemies. You have to hit a whole string of them in a row, though, which is hard to do. I usually only successfully do it about once a game, if I’m also trying to get all the other powerups at the same time. Once you miss a plane, you know you’re not going to get it, so you might as well forget them and focus on the powerups you know you can get.
