No co-op makes me a sad Warforged. The game kind of just yearns for it. User-created content and stuff could be neat, but I would rather play a game like that alongside a friend or three. (Don’t you get a party in the game anyways? Hey, look, co-op right there. Why restrict it to single player only?) Plus, BioWare seems to be able to generate a lot of hype and ratings for games that are pretty average at best, and I’d rather not fall for that again.

So, no co-op + over-hyped previous games = no buy for me. It looks to be a bit better than their previous games, but the co-op thing just so far outweighs it for me to care.

Because it’s a whole lot of work to get multiplayer working well (and as Borderlands shows, horrifically bad multiplayer i.e. gamespy is probably worse than not having it at all), and that’s developer time not spent on other things like getting the console ports running.

Now that the engine’s stable, I expect we’ll see multiplayer in DA2, or if we’re lucky, a big patch further down the line.

I know I, for one, will be waiting for it. . . The game is just terribly uninteresting without it.

I guess I understand the whole “lot of work” thing, but. . . It still just boggles me, I guess. The game looks and sounds like it would work pretty well with at least one other friend. But you’re right — the whole GameSpy thing on Borderlands irks me, too, so I’ll just have to be patient.

And, y’know, wait for actual reviews from players.

I don’t see the DA gameplay being well tailored for multiplayer, not for co-op or even pitting players against each other. It’s about planning ahead, micromanaging and tactics, which I’ve never seen mix well with multiplayer. The ability to completely pause the game while giving your party commands further reinforces this point.

Who has the game? or is getting the game?

Since I already have the game I want to see who has it too.

It’s not released until Friday here. Which is when my copy will arrive.

Well for the INSANELY AWESOME GRAPHICS and a very rich storyline, thousands of dialougue, what would you expect from the people who made Baldur’s gate and mass Effect 10/10

Decided to poke around a bit more after seeing a quick video a friend linked of the game. . . I ended up on a quick demo video of the mod designer developer thingy. I was expecting something a bit cruddy, like Neverwinter Nights, but then they added you could do cutscenes and voice acting and stuff, and that piqued my interest. If the stuff you can create is really that detailed, that might be enough to outweigh no co-op (which I still think would be viable, with voice chat, albeit hard). Also discovered it lets you do moral choices without that annoying little slider, which makes me happy and hesitant at the same time.

Downloading a demo now to try out. . . Whatever it is they let you try out in the demo. Sounds like just character creation and maybe the origin story. I really do hope the demo shows enough to show that it isn’t going to be another Mass Effect flop. . . I do know, though, that after seeing the mod capabilities, I’m a bit more interested in it for the PC that I was originally.

EDIT: Hah, wow, just character creation. Oh yeah, that’s real helpful in trying to decide if I want to buy a game or not. I guess I wait for friends to get further and ask them for opinions.

It’s not really a “demo” so much as a “character creator”. You actually got a small bonus item in-game if you created a character and uploaded it to their funny “social network” thing before the game launched.

If you want to have a look at the gameplay, this shows it off pretty well.

Thank you for that link, Jabor — that actually showed a lot of little things from Neverwinter Nights 2 that irked me, that it looks like Dragon Age did correctly. (Inventory, difficulty, pausing actually helpful, etc.) I really should just bookmark Giant Bomb; they seem to be the go to for me recently for getting help with games I can’t decide on, especially since they present the games in a good way.

Thanks again. That’s all I needed to see, really. If I can find the money, I’ll have to find it for PC, if friends also say it’s good. The mods and the little things have really got me interested. This looks like a better made game by BioWare, finally.

I’m terrified of buying it since I’m not sure it would work on my computer. Is there a way to test what kinds of games your computer can handle?

Here’s a site that lets you check if a game will run on your pc. It only works on internet explorer though.

If you’re willing to spend the cash to upgrade your computer, a whole new realm of PC games will suddenly become playable.

They patched it to make it easier. Hilarious.

Meh. It hasn’t affected the difficulty on Hard or Nightmare, so it’s not really anything to complain about for people actually seeking a challenge.

And it broke my copy! Amazing.

That might be something worth complaining about, actually.

Of course, if you bought it on anything other than Steam you can just reinstall and play unpatched if you want. This won’t be the first time (and it surely won’t be the last) that Steam’s forced patching has inconvenienced people.
