No, you need to find a server that is up and online, besides there been some problems serverside on Minecraft. No worries, try check if any of your friends playing on some, or if they maybe host one that you can join.

Playing alone is boring, playing with close friends is epic. :)

You can join any server on minecraft at any time. Just make sure you find one that’s running.

Playing in browser rather than on the download version can often fix short connection times. Playing in browser makes the single player all shitty and laggy though.

In the end I had to fix a DNS conflict which made my internet disconnect. :/
