A reasonable topic on runescape for anyone who doesnt just want to flame page 2

1. It’s been decided that it is staying.

2. It belongs on this site just as much as the other big MMOs on site such as Starfighter: Disputed Galaxy, which by the way also has its own site and forums as well.

3. The dev has made no violation of the Terms of Service

4. The dev chose on his own will to put the game up.

5. Asking for more badges/cards will probably result in less opportunities due to the negative, immature attitudes of the people complaining.

Runescape is a game. Kongregate is a portal for games. End of story, Kongregate isn’t biased unlike some people.

Its not like runescape doesnt have its own site.

I can name quite a number of games on Kongregate that are uploaded/hosted on other websites.

If your doing it for advertising purposes then please make up for this by releasing alot more badges/cards.

Runescape doesn’t use the API for technical reasons (how many times must this be mentioned?), so no chance of it getting badges or cards.

“Flash” is a coding language, “MMORPG” is a gaming genre. The two thus cannot be compared, get your facts straight before diving into a debate.

That’s your opinion. If it’s a waste, so is every other game a person plays, but if it’s entertaining to the person playing then it is not a waste of time.

Sorry but Runescape doesn’t need anymore players. Most people fled from runescape to kongregate and now its just haunting us.

I’ve seen several people state that a big reason that RS shouldn’t be on here is that it will attract immature, annoying users. Frankly, since the game has come out on Kong, I’ve seen ten times the immaturity from those that dislike RuneScape than from those that enjoy it. Honestly, it’s a game. This is a game site. They belong together. I remember when a good portion of people would talk nonstop about the bugs in Sonny, which was pretty annoying, yet there were no calls to take Sonny off Kong. There is a stigma of sorts on RS, and I’m pretty sure if it was a new game that none of you had heard of then there wouldn’t be this large backlash against having it here. Dare I say, some of you may have actually enjoyed it?

Guess what? I do have money for WoW, ultima. You know why I don’t play it? Because it SUCKS. It’s repetitive, you just grind, loot, repeat. The so called “skills”? They all feed into combat. Runescape has skills UNRELATED to combat, which is a breath of fresh air.

I came to sites like this to get away from runescape
after being addicted to it and now look and if Runescape
has already caused such a big arguement already wouldn’t
it get worse and worse! and all the arguing will most likely
cause people to get discouraged and then leave Kongregate!

I’ll admit, when I first saw RuneScape was added, I thought to myself, “No way! I can’t believe this. . .” since I fled from RuneScape years ago. (I don’t hate the game. I just turned to the pay to play ones [Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach for a good example] because they were better quality games.)

As “awkward”, for lack of a better word, as it is that RuneScape is on this site, I at first believed that it should go. But upon thinking about it, it made me realize something.

Some people may actually find RuneScape on this site instead of RuneScape’s actual site (Slim chance, but bear with me here). They may find more games they enjoy, and maybe that causes them to stay and enjoy the site. And before anyone says that they don’t want anymore immature people on Kongregate because of RuneScape, I’ll use myself as an example: I played RuneScape. I don’t think of myself as immature. There are mature players of that game out there.

It also provides yet another game to waste— I mean, spend my time on on this site. If I don’t want to try for badges, or maybe I’m just bored and want a change, RuneScape is a good time waster. (One could argue that other games are better time wasters, but they all serve the same purpose in the end.)

I honestly don’t see the big deal anymore, now that I’ve thought about it. I think it does deserve to stay on the site. It may not be a “flash game” like many others on this site, but I still come to this site to play games. Flash or MMORPG or whatever. I come here to have fun. If I find fun in goofing off on RuneScape once in awhile while on this site, so be it.

dudes, if you say “present any reasons why rs sux” or “why should it be taken down”, read the threads, because youre not better than “TAKE RS DOWN!!!1 ITS GAY!!1” guys :)
But its funny, except shockwave, java games werent allowed, maybe it was changed just before RS ^^ or nobody thought about getting a java game here, because it would be literally avoiding rules or nobody would want to instal java plugin :)

Alright, I’m not arguing that RS should be taken off Kong, though it would honestly please me if it was. I’m here to simply argue that the combat in RS is not skill based. WHen you reach level 70 in WoW, there’s over a dozen spells/abilities to choose from that are all used in different circumstances including endgame content. Yes, RS offers quests that are unrelated to combat, and if you like click & point puzzle games, then I suppose its great. However, WoW offers strategy and skills that are used in combat, and the “puzzles” that enemy encounters provide are infinitely more satisfying and rewarding in my view. Also, WoW provides graphics that are indisputably better than those in RS. If you enjoy RS, I can’t stop you, after all, that’s the purpose of a game, isn’t it? But after playing WoW, RS seems childish in comparison, and doesn’t appear to amount to anything.

oh and non related skills eventually lead to combat because
(skill= +stuff, sell stuff= +$, and spending $ leads to buying stuff)
and ussulally u need stuff to make stuff and u get the stuff through fighting

I agree with Tremble on that point, saying that if you play RS for the out of combat reasons, it’s seems silly, because inevitably in order to get to those points in RS you’re going to have to deal with a lot of combat, and if that’s what you’re so much opposed against, shouldn’t you be playing games like Mist instead?

Or you could create the items without combat?

As i write this there is 6,522 games on Kong so i don’t think you have to flame about one game you don’t like. Instead play the other of them and let the people that like Runescape enjoy it here to.

So don’t play Runescape.

the main thing is that it isnt just another game, its a java game put in flash frame, usually a game would be deleted or low-rated :)

For me, I don’t have a hating of RuneScape. Used to play it years ago, particularly in college (given the 1400 days since last played, it probably was in college). But there’s a few issues that are irksome.

1) Non-Flash: The sheer majority of games here are Flash-Based. I can’t say that Kongregate can’t allow non-flash games, as I don’t own or run it. However, my experience has always been that K is a Flash Portal, with the benefits of a Live-style API for achievements, high scores, and chat. RuneScape is different in two major ways. The obvious is Java, complain as you want. The other is that the ‘Game’ is just a HTML page pointing to the main Jagex page for RuneScape. So basically, Kongregate is now a Portal to a Portal to a game? I don’t think this is what GLaDOS had in mind.

2) Pay MMO: Multiplayer capability in a game is not a bad thing; neither is a persistant world. The fact that there’s been heavy restrictions unless you become a ‘member’ with the requisite fees to enjoy the most of the game smacks against the whole “Free games” up there in the upper right of your screen. I’m pretty sure that the ad that popped up while loading goes to Jagex’s coffers, rather than Kongregate’s, too. Though if Kongregate gets a cut, it’d be worthwhile to let us know, as the ads are supposed to be supporting this as a free site.

Maybe if there was some ‘draw’ to the whole thing, like special benefits (even if of no use in the actual game) through playing through Kongregate, it might ‘feel’ more appropriate. But as it stands in my experience, RuneScape is the oddball of the group, sticking out like a sore thumb in comparison to everything else that has been done so far with Kongregate.

There’s plenty of games on Kongregate already that are “demos” and have limited content unless you do X to unlock it. Runescape is a free2play MMORPG and nothing’s changing that, the pay2play aspect is merely a bonus for those that are hardcore Runescape players.
