Props to thirdparty for the guide. I was having problems with dagger and shield guy at later stages and basically restarted until I could fight him early. Personally I got the badge when I started against the flailer but thirdpartys order of fighting is probably the easiest.

I’ve restarted at least 30 times and I can’t get a swordsman to show up first. Is it possible or am I just extremely unlucky?

I just got the impossible badge using Aldon. Aldon is the best guy to choose for this obviously because he can block while attacking.

Most of the melee guys you can kill with jump attack/back attack combo, rinse and repeat, the archer is easy even as the last mob you can beat him in a straight up swing/shooting fest. The mage just block everything he has and wait for him to teleport to you and hack him to bits. The flail guy is the easiest one of all as he misses you 99% of the time if you stand on top of him and hold down the attack button. The moving whirler is the second hardest guy if you don’t know what you are doing, but you can kill him fairly effectively with block – back attack combo. Basically the only real significant challenge is the stationary whirler who attacks really really fast with long range and stays out of jump attack range. You want to get him in the first few enemies so you don’t need to face him at the end. The archer and mage come right before him in that order so if you don’t see one of those 3 in the first few gladiators you might as well just refresh your page unless you can come up with a strategy to beat him.

Math time! Chance of getting a swordsman as first opponent is 1/13 and not getting him is 12/13. Also chances of not getting him first 30 times in a row is (12/13)^30 = 0.09 and therefore chances to get him at least once in 30 tries is 1 – 0.09 = 0,91 or about 90%. So that is somewhat unlucky but not extremely so. I know this doesn’t help at all but I just had to calculate that :)

You don’t need to get the swordsman first, there are 13 enemies total – when I got the badge I started with mage and the 14th guy was a mage so I can definitely confirm it.

I’m not positive which particular enemy you are referring to as the “swordsman”, as at least 5 of them fight with swords and my strategy for beating them was pretty much identical. But I can confirm that getting any of the archer, mage and the stationary whirler in the first few guys is the easiest way to get the impossible badge. Thats almost a 1/4 chance, so it should be fairly manageable to just refresh if you don’t get any of those guys. It might be possible to get the badge with other starts, but from previous attempts I don’t think I beat the stationary whirler after gladiator #6, and I got eaten alive by him twice as gladiator 13. :(

I found a more efficient way to kill the guys with short swords and big shield, just keep backing up jumping and when you half way down take a stab wash and repeat

I got a badge with Toldor and with thirdparty guide ;) I started with swordsman and after defeating stationary whirler it was really easy :) Thanks again thirdparty

I did it with the Orc. A lot of the time, just hammering T would take care of most enemies. For the harder sword/halberd enemies, I’d have to use some combination of blocking followed by a kick + sword swipe, repeated. The dagger and shield guy I still have trouble with, but I just continually back away, until he’s reasonably close, and then I move forward, kick, swipe, and start moving away again (hopefully before he recovers to attack). The Whirlers are pretty easy with the Orc too.

DJStatika:

As long as you seem to be reading the thread: I completely understand why you nerfed kicks in Gladiator mode, as I abused them plenty in the campaign. Problem is, the enemies can chain-kick just as well as you can, and theirs still does damage. Was this an oversight, or intentionally left that way to make it harder?

Agree with Fireseal. It’s especially frustrating when you’re killed by a kick you blocked. Also there are some times when you clearly hear the sound of knee break on a kick, the enemy still turns around and bash you without affected.

The biggest problem, playing with orc, are the short-swordsman and passive whirler, these two are impossible after round 6.

A method I found much better for #12 of ThirdParty’s guide: Hit him at your sword’s max range then guard. When he gets close he’ll kick you back. He should eventually do a backflip which is your chance to fall back (he won’t hit you while he’s in the air, plus his two attacks following will give you time). When he advances again, you should have the chance to hit him twice before repeating it again. As a late opponent, #12, I only lost about 15-30% health doing this. This only works for the orc guy though.

1st Heavy long swordsman (long sword, huge shiled, slow)

2nd fast swordsmen (the troublesome guy)

6th passive whirler

purpose of this post is that

if you get 1st heavy swordsmen, the game is playable.
I wiped on 7th halberdier, I have no idea how to fight these, I just get kicked to death, and many my hits do 0 damage (why?)

I beat halberdier with methods mentioned above. Block until he gets pass you, knee break him, go back a little and slice+block. (don’t use forward attack, as it will be slower for you to raise defense)

Right now I’m stuck with the 10th guy in ThirdParty’s pattern, stationary spearman. It seems I can’t find a safe way to go forth and land a kick on him without being stabbed.

I think this may be a Pandemic type game, where you should restart repeatedly to get a good chance at the impossible. The easiest way is to make sure you are starting against the short swordsman. That gets him and the passive whirler out of the way early. After that, it’s fairly simple. Got it in one try starting out against the short swordsman.

Okay I’ve got the line-up. saneiac and ThirdParty have excellent strategies for beating all of these guys.

The key is getting the hardest ones out of the way first and saving the easy guys for last because their hp and hit power goes up each round.
Okay here it is. Start gladiator mode with the orc and restart until you get a guy with a small shield and a short sword first and this line up has happened every time for me:

1)small shield/short sword swordsman (toughest)

2)dual sword guy (easy)

3)bowman (easy)

4)mage (medium)

5)stationary twirler (second toughest) but at this level you can just stand there and swing away and he’ll die before you.

6)halbardier (third toughest) this was the toughest match of the lineup for me

7)two hand long sword guy (easy if you use the right strategy)

8)two hand long sword guy #2 (same)

9)normal spearman (easy)

10)moving twirler (extremely easy)

11)spearmaster (fairly tough) this was my second toughest match of the lineup get through this and you’re home free

12)flailer (laughably easy)

13)big shield/long sword swordsman (very easy)

Keep in mind that the ratings in parentheses are referring to the difficulty at even levels.
If you use this lineup I promise you will get the impossible badge in no time. The hardest part is getting the swordsman to pop up first. =)

Thanks to you all, especially thirdparty. just got the badge. Played as Orc beginning with stationary whirler(although I can confirm that i managed to knock him down to one tiny sliver of life as the 14th enemy by just going toe-to-toe with him and i hesitated at first so he got first strike. if i were smarter i’d’ve beaten him just slugging it out at the 14th level, so it is in fact, possible to just hack and slash him at any point while getting the badge). i used a few different strategies, but most of them are similar or the guys are easy to beat either way. the hardest enemy in my mind is halbardier, for whatever reason he seems to go crazy with kicks when he gets near me. The hardest enemy when beginning with stationary whirler is definitely shortsword man o’ darkness, but if you follow the pattern of backing up, stabbing, and occasionally back-counterstroking when he does the lunging slash, you can kill him(i had around a quarter life left.)

Decimus, your guide is suckish. I repeatedly tried this for half an hour and made it to the 5th person tops.

Anyone following the orc strategy is just shooting themselves in the foot in my opinion, I tried it just to see how it compared to my strategy with Aldon. Beating the dagger/small shield “swordsman” guy with the orc was much more difficult than anything I had to face with Aldon at an equivalent level. Of course maybe its just my personal preference talking, but I think that Aldon was much more effective in gladiator mode.

The basic strategy for winning with Aldon is the same for most of the enemies, use jump attack and hold down attack and retreat on the way down. This makes you completely invulnerable 100% of the time because his retreat move is a combination guard/slash. I beat the swordsman that everyone is so concerned about without losing any health at all. The only melee enemy this doesn’t work well against is the twirlers – the moving one is easy enough as he is faster than you and constantly runs into you so you can just block/retreat attack and still kill him without taking any damage. The stationary twirler is a bit tougher as he doesn’t stay in range of your attacks but if you get him as one of the first three or four gladiators he can be dispatched with ease.

On an unrelated note has anyone beaten the impossible badge requirements with Ellder? I tried a few times but the best I could do was up to gladiator 6.

The strategy I put in my first post will beat any spearman, whirler, or halbredier with Toldor, for this still having problems. “Stationary” or not, it makes no difference.

All you need to do is land a stunning kick. Usually I just jump inside their range and kick them.

Once they’re stunned, get behind them, back off a few steps, then forward+attack. You’re aiming to be overlapping the enemy after you hit them. Immediately kick again until they’re stunned. Most of their counterattacks will miss if you’re on top of them, so you’ll be free to do this. Repeat pattern until you win.

You will occasionally take damage from their counterattacks, but once you get the distance down you’ll be doing far more damage to them than they are to you.

I’m really disappointed there’s such obvious patterns in how the enemies appear. It’d be nice if you actually had to learn how to fight everything instead of just refreshing until you find a pattern that skips what you don’t like. =(

I stil haven’t gotten the badge yet, but using the orc technique I’m getting between 7-11 gladiators defeated. The only people I get messed up with are the 2nd 2 handed sword person and the spear and shield person.

Recimus, until you describe how to kill whirlers, spearmens, halberdiers and long-swordsmes with Aldon, I am not going to belive you either.

Has anyone any better metod of killing the level 7 halberdier?
