Meh, I was buying it on Xbox 360 anyway; My PC could never handle a shooter as high detail as Modern Warfare 2.

I’d pass on that reason, as well as no co-op in the campaign and multiplayer being stale. While I’m sure it’ll get raving reviews, having no co-op in a campaign that would work well with campaign (Other players = Your squad.), multiplayer that won’t change (Rambo every playlist. No incentive to actually work together.), and now no dedicated servers for PC. . . Eh. That’s a lot of minuses for a few pluses.
I’m sure I’ll be missing lots of fun in Spec Ops. But I wouldn’t buy it until there’s a size-able price cut to make up for stuff that really shouldn’t be a problem now that we’re onto the second game.

Yea I have never been much of a FPS player used to play a lot of Halo/Halo2 though. I got into CoD WaW about 3 months ago. I was going to get MW2 heck I was even gunna preorder it, but then I researched the changes they are making and I WILL NOT buy MW2 untill they fix the online back to dedicated servers. I have a ps3 but preffer to play most games on my PC. So anyways I went to best buy and bought CoD4 MW1 on sale for 30 bucks. Its cheaper and it has dedicated servers avail mods wider online options ect. The price of CoD4 will prob drop even more when MW2 comes out. Boycott MW2 untill they change it the way WE like. After all we are the consumers. Power to the players. We pay them they dont pay us.

I’m getting a copy for the xbox 360, but im pissed because gamestops in nyc, ohio, and a few other places broke the release date and sold the game 4-6 days early. So when you get online tuesday theres gunna be people already at max level.
Just go to the infinity ward forums, tens of thousands of people already have the game.
GJ Gamestop + Mom n’ Pop stores.

Since this topic was revived, for whatever reason, why not add some strong arguments from either spectrum:
Why I can’t support Modern Warfare 2 (Read that one first, if you care.)
Why I will support Modern Warfare 2
The first was a community opinion published on Destructoid, and the second is a response to the first written by hilarious Jim Sterling.
If you care.

I have now read those and the content in them doesnt affect me at all. That is just a moral between right and wrong. Its a video game not real life. Its no worse then that go to gorey movies and find them entertaining. And Im sure the scene isnt half as bad as the real shit that goes on out there.

LOL I just saw the video of that scene. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGdEfK9aEVc from someone that got the game early. People were freaking out about nothing. They freaked out without knowing the ending. Watch what happens at the end of the mission.

Yeah, I’ve heard what happens at the end too. I don’t want to spoil anything, though. ;)

:/
The thing is, even before violence in video games, people found them bad for something or another. Whether it be you become antisocial, or your eyesight weakens. It seems video game backlash (by news companies, not gamers obviously) has grown more and more as video games have explored other things, such as sex scenes and violence. Now, the first game to include graphic violence (No idea what game that would be, just saying.) was more than likely hated by non-gamers because it ‘promoted violence’. Nowadays, the news companies realize that violence in games is no longer a ‘big deal’. Do you ever see fox talking about how the latest Halo game seems ‘too violent’? No. My point in all of this is that of course there will be big backlash to every new thing video games try to incorporate (there are still rants on sex scenes), but gradually as it becomes more normal in games, the negative response will die down.
MINOR SPOILERS
Another thing is that the reason it is worse than gory movies (and I admit this, but video games companies should still have the choice to put something like this in their games to reinforce a story concept) is because it is wanting you to shoot the civilians. If the game had something like the ability to turn and shoot your terrorist ‘friends’ and then they would kill you, as opposed to killing you after your rampage, it would be much better. But as it stands, the only thing that we’ve seen is that they want you to kill the civilians or stand back and watch. There is no option that doesn’t end in innocent people dying.

The problem is, if this were another type of game, I’d be more inclined the agree with you. But it’s a war game, and ignoring the fact that innocents die in war doesn’t exactly work. Sure, you could throw them right into the fight, with just mission briefings explaining everything, but how memorable of a game would that be? Every war game seems to do this. In presenting a level that throws at players a cold, hard truth, it re-enforces the story in a way, making the game stick in peoples heads.
Spoilers for first game ahead, though I’d bet everyone already knows this level: Remember the level in the first Modern Warfare game, where the nuke goes off and you crawl away from a helicopter crash? I’d wager you do. Why? Because it was a strong level, in terms of shock, story, and deliverance. Can you honestly say you would remember “the briefing text that told me a nuke went off”? Probably not. Spoilers are done.
I still hear people talk about that level. That even gets called by some “the level” to explain Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. And now, we’ve got another level in a sequel that people are talking about. Shock value delivered. From what I’ve heard, it sets up the events that will take place later in the game. Story value right there. It sets you in a level that you’ve never seen before from other games. Deliverance. Like it or not, it’s a well-designed level to get the player’s attention, get them more into the story, and hell, maybe get a few more sales out of the game for doing something no game has done before.
There’s also the option, as well as in a second level of the game, to skip the scene, giving you an option that does allow you to continue without innocent people dying — well, okay, they’re still gonna get mowed down, but at least you aren’t seeing it.
