Hey all,

I recently just wrote an article on my site about tips for borderlands.

http://buzzgamer.blogspot.com/2009/11/borderlands-basic-tips-guide.html

I was wondering if I could get a couple of people to check it out and give me some feed back that would be great.

Thanks.

Thanks, as a beginner I found the tips really helpful.

The rarity colors are as follows. White, Green, Blue, Purple, Orange, Dark Orange, Red, Pearlescent

Have you actually played the game or just read about it?

Really, most of those are taught to you either in the first hour of the game, or you should already know them within the first five minutes if you’ve ever played an FPS before. :/

A few are quite helpful, like the car one.

By the by, I think you have the rarity wrong. I think. From what I’ve come across (and I’ve put a good thirty+ hours into the game, level 32 on my main and 17 and 10 on my sides), it goes “White-Green-Blue-Purple-Orange”.

Also, here is a very good blog post with Borderlands tips. Take note for future blog posts!

(I’m not trying to be mean, by the way. Just honest.)

“The rarity colors are as follows. White, Green, Blue, Purple, Orange, Dark Orange, Red, Pearlescent”

I put it up like that because someone told me that at first, orange the rarest, I was wrong they then showed me a link to things that showed gear that was red and Pearlescent, however, I finally realised that they were wrong and confused.

What actually happens is Orange weapons have red writing, which are rarer. I hadn’t come across Red or Pearlescent weapons in my first play through and thought that I hadn’t unlocked it.

You won’t see many red-orange or pearl weapons, if any, through the first playthrough. Through a playthrough and a half, I’ve gotten one pearl weapon, I believe — there was, what I thought was, a white item glitched and sitting above a legendary or two in my backpack. I threw it out when I sold stuff. And then I heard from someone that there’s a pearl level weapon, though the writing gets mistaken for white.

Whether that’s true or not, I don’t know. I do remember the thing being a pistol, and it was a pretty nice one at that. . . Except I would have never used it, being built for shotguns and launchers.

“Pearl weapons are often of high quality, even surpassing weapons twice as rare. I still haven’t seen a orange rarity pearl weapon, but have found many purple pearls with stats that surpass similar guns in orange+ rarity.”

Some really good tips, a little basic but I guess that’s why it’s called “Basic Tips Guide”.

I just finished my first playthrough of the game (about 30 hours of gameplay) and in that time I’ve come across two dark orange rarity weapons. One was a 2x explosive elemental 1.2x scoped shotgun with 89*12dmg/64.8% acc/1.0 ROF and a 16-shot magazine. A Fatal Crux, I think it was called. The other was a 4x fire elemental sniper with 279dmg/94.2%acc/1.2 ROF and a 5-round magazine, something to do with Volcano in the name. I’m still using both of them with an Eridian Lightning (green rarity), 298dmg/98.4%acc/2.5 ROF, and a 4x corrosive elemental 2.7x scoped Pestilent Revolver (orange rarity) 260dmg/89.2%acc/1.8 ROF.

I’m now a Level 36 Hunter and I’m gonna be starting the second playthrough soon. I’ll post again if I find anything good.

Caution Contains Spoilers do not read if u Havent gotten through at least the first playthrough

well guys it seems some of u are misinformed about the rarity thing. The colors posted are correct up to pearl but the red text can show up on weapons other than dark orange and pearl. The red text is a unique special effect. There are no pearl + color weapons. Dark orange is the best right now. It is speculated on the forums that pearl weapons are created by the game engine but surpass the maximum values of certain traits. That being said pearl weapons may be a glitch and may cause corrupt data. Gearbox has not commented on this yet. Aside from that the game is glitched because ultimate items can have a 5th attribute which isnt listed. Aside from that my tips are as follows
-There are 160 missions total. 30 are main plot Missions, completing these will beat the game.
-In New Haven there is a secret weapons vendor across from the weapons vendor that is already there.. it open randomly and it will be almost directly behind you when standing in front of the weapons vendor. The weapons are generally better.
-In the second playthrough U can do the claptrap missions again. If u get a grenade mod as a reward reload and do it again until u get a backpack mod. Its a small chance but it is well worth it.
-Eridian weapons suck. wait for the DLC to make them better because they really do suck even at a max proficiency of 50. Oh but if it makes u feel any better they do have a cool red text special on them.
-Item drops are completely random but the more players u have in the game the better the equipment….. even from stores.
-Dont waste your time looting chests and reloading the game. Killing end game beasts are way more effective and net u valuable proficiency experience. So loot wherever u want but then kill the last area enemies.
-Dont waste your time power leveling unless u already beat the game. Not only does it take away from the fun but it is worthless because ur weapons will still suck for your level and u will die and lose more money than u would if u were at the right level. Only power level if u have maxed out a char and want to play with the other chars. Cuz then u can skim through the plot missions and get better weapons faster.
-Old Haven, Trash Coast and The promotory are the best places for looting. Trash Coast is only good on your way to the hive otherwise get the f*** out unless your killing the mini bosses too for quest items on the second playthrough after u beat it.
-From the last tip. If u beat the second playthrough then u can go back and kill the bosses for the quest items u would have recieved. E.g. kill scar for T.K.s wave with a small chance of scar dropping it at a level 48 cap.
-Dont waste time pondering weapon choices and dont hold onto higher level weapons. The weapon u have been using for a while is usually just fine. At least u know what it does and many others that are better than it will soon fall too your feet. Then start nitpicking :) Sell the weapons for money, Dont waste your money on anything with one really good exception and that is u havent seen anything better in like 4 hours of game play. Unless its a shield or class mod they are so hard to find. Trust me u need serious money to buy the last level ammo upgrades and they are totally worth it.
-To kill the mothrakk just jump in a machinegun runner, jump out, light the 3 torches, jump in, lock on and fire away while driving in circles. Everyone has problems with this guy but hes uber easy when u fight him as described above.
-Many quest items will carry u through much of the game. For example a hunter using the elephant gun can go very far if he has the sniper upgrades. If u have it u should just use it and save the money. In the example above u dont have a scope but does it really matter if u one shot kill everything.
-Look at all the stats before u invest in a single tree. If u invest in a stat it is better to max it out. For example the soldier class has a refire skill which every 2 seconds will remove 1 second from the cooldown of your turret at level 1. At Level 5 its 5 seconds. Pretty good when combined with the level 5 cooldown reduction skill which reduce the cooldown time of the turret by 100% making it only 50 seconds instead of 100 seconds to throw it out. The two skill are in different trees but combining them makes a powerful duo causing your turrent to comes out maybe every 20 seconds in a fire fight. I think thats pretty good.

I have many more more things to list but I would be curious before I listed them about how everyone else feels.
To ensure everyone knows where im coming from my brick is level 24,my siren is level 27, my hunter is level 23 and my soldier is level 50. Aside from the soldier being my main char he has maxed out weapon profs. in combat rifles, shotguns, Eridian weapons(stupid me) and Smgs. I looking at over 100 hours of play time already. Hope this helps

I am under the impression i have more game time in than any one who posted. I was simply trying to help u out. U can simplify it or do whatever u would like with it as I have given it to you. I also have more if u want it but I would rather put that stuff into a txt docu and send it to u.

kad12345 That is incredibly generous of you thank you. If you could send me the txt doco to vertabatimhotmail.com that would be great. Also I would like to credit you in some way or another on the site, is there a name other than kad12345 that you go by or do you own a site that I could link to.

Hey Kad,

I put the tips you gave me up on the site. I split them in to two parts.

cool. I didn’t expect u to put them in as is. I figured u would make them look nice and what not but anyone who reads them will get the general idea from it and walk away with a lot more than they had. I can’t say some of the tips are the best but if your looking for tips than chances are the tips I gave you are sufficient. Someone with better ideas will come along soon enough :)

Just a small tip :) : Buy a headset. When Co-Opping it really helps. And you don’t have to spend precious time on typing long sentences. (That killed me once. NO LIE!)
