Will you be here after the results of this round are posted? I’d prefer to let you know then.
Yes. I’ll be here.

Game’s never over until only one person is left standing—I’ve seen crazier things happen.

Well, this round finally had all the drama I was hoping for… and then some. Two players (helltank and MaistlinRajere) failed to submit, and another (Shadowhopeful) submitted 99, knowing that he was almost surely going to be eliminated anyway. Everybody else submitted typical low numbers—with the exception of Bluji, who took the unusual strategy of submitting 40.
With all those conflicting strategies in play, here’s how Round 7 turned out:
Submissions:
hiperson134 9
devourer359 14
wercooler 9
Bluji 40
helltank 100 (no submission)
MaistlinRajere 100 (no submission)
tttttt 12
coolo2011 15
Mysterymason 12
Shadowhopeful 99
Taiboss 10
Half the average was 19.0909, rounded to 19.
helltank, MaistlinRajere, and Shadowhopeful were all eliminated because they went over 100 total points in this round.
And everyone else except Bluji submitted a number that was below half the average—meaning Bluji has won Half the Average!
Congratulations to Bluji for winning in a very wild final round, and thanks to everyone for making this a great game.
I’ll leave this open for a little while for discussion.

I should have went with my original plan :(. Would have survived if I did.
Congratulations, Bluji! You did a nice job of predicting this.

What was your original plan?
Here is a table showing everyone’s submissions by round, as well as how far those submissions were from half the average (pink cells indicate where a player submitted a number that was below half the average):

What I like about this game is that dramatic effects can occur if just one person departs from the popular strategy and does something unexpected. A notable example that didn’t occur was in Round 5, where if puzzledan (who was nearing elimination) had simply failed to submit instead of trying to stay in, he would have caused 8 more players to be eliminated (only Taiboss, tttttt, and Shadowhopeful would have remained, as half the average would have gone up to 17.6).

…I don’t…even…I…what?
How could bluji even predict that…?
I just…am stunned…
I…uhm…think we need to have a second place party, everyone eliminated in this round is invited?

What was your original plan?
I was going to raise my vote at certain times in order to influence the average. Instead, I decided to try to beat hiperson in terms of how low the score was.

And meanwhile I was making a bold move to submit a single digit number. I’m just so stunned because I can’t even look back and say “If I had done so and so, I would still be in this,” simply because…I had no idea…
Looking back, I smell something fishy. I have a feeling bluji communicated with shadow to do just this…well played…

Bluji took a chance and it paid off. He realized that he couldn’t win by just doing what everyone else does, so he decided to, in his own words, “take a fun strategy – this may either eliminate me or at least ruin my game”. If helltank and Maist had submitted, that’s exactly what would have happened, as he’d have fallen hopelessly behind. But it didn’t.

This is how I made my formulas. I plotted all the points on this website. (it gives you formulas that most closely match the data.) then I took some of the more reasonable formulas and plugged them into this website. that would give me the projected average for the next round.

right now the closest formula is this
y = 112.200005 - 213.36002 * x + 184.40584 * x ^ 2 - 78.95209 * x ^ 3 + 17.706251 * x ^ 4 - 1.9879167 * x ^ 5 + 0.08791667 * x ^ 6
a more realistic one is this
y = 25.885714 - 5.760714 * x + 0.625 * x ^ 2

Maist, that was your last round number. (I think. At least you submitted 17 last time as well.)
