Jessica asks. “Because I was just denied one Pokémon, now I’m even more determined to catch my next one,” I explain. W-w-what kind of pokemon are you going to catch? Jonathan asks. “Oh, you’ll see,” I tell him.

The nurse walks over, holding two trays mostly filled with pokeballs. “Here you go, sorry for the wait. Come back anytime!”
Darryl and Katie pick up their balls and their eggs, and Katie turns to me. “Okay, well we’ve gotta keep going, but maybe we’ll see you around somewhere?”
I smile and nod. “Yeah, that’d be nice. Maybe our eggs will be hatched by then.”
They smile back, give a short wave, and walk out.
I turn back to the egg.
So just what kind of pokemon are you.

Nincada
Time has passed, and I’ve been informed that the sandstorm outside has abated. This coincides neatly with the fact that it is dark outside, which means that, if I wanted, I could get out of this desert on the spot.
…well, I’m not one for bad-mouthing my housing arrangements, but the sooner I get out of that cave, the better.
Shortly, escorted by a number of other Pokemon and somehow dragging the foreign Pokeball with me (it’s something solid to remind me that I still exist, at least), I am at a location in the desert where I can take two separate paths – the upper path will lead me to the ash-choked route 113 and subsequent lower area of the sprawling Lavaridge City, which contain a number of Sandshrew friendly to those in the nearby desert, alongside a variety of other Pokemon that shouldn’t be too harmful to me, but again, is completely clogged with ash. The lower path, on the other hand, will take me towards Mauville City, with the ability to enter route 112 (and, eventually, the upper portion of Lavaridge City) if I so wish – again, Pokemon there aren’t too dangerous, type disadvantage against certain natives aside, but getting to the city requires heading through something the Pokemon here refer to as the Fiery Path. Apparently, it was just an extension of route 112 even a decade ago, but something or other happened, and now all the Pokemon in it are insanely powerful compared to their nearby cousins, making direct travel to Upper Lavaridge through it nigh-impossible without either a great ability to hide, a great ability to incite being left alone, or insane power of one’s own. I have neither. Yet. Either way, the rest of 111 is basically clear of Pokemon as long as I don’t try to head out over the one lake in it, which is nice.
…hum. I know I said I didn’t want to go through 113, but I can’t help but think that those in Mauville will try to capture me for my later evolutions, or else pound me into the ground to increase the power of their own Pokemon. Lower Lavaridge… I might get protection, or something. At the very least, there are Sandshrew there who can help me out in a tight spot. Maybe I want to explore the world a bit, too. Yes, I think I’ll go there. I promptly head north, accompanied by one Sandshrew to inform the other Sandshrew there that I’m not to be eaten. That should be helpful… if I ever get there. Sandshrew apparently aren’t that good for night-time travel. That being said, though, I may as well figure out a way to protect myself from the sunlight that’s going to be coming in soon. I bury myself under some leaves and try my best to fall asleep.

[Just catching up here. Incidentally, I’ve made a couple of changes to the Pokemon world in the area around Route 111:
1. Over the past 100 years since R/S/E, Lavaridge Town and Fallarbor Town managed to expand into one another across Mt. Chimney’s surface, gaining the name Lavaridge City, and granting easy movement across the mountain simply by walking through the town between the upper, central and lower sections (conveniently named Upper Lavaridge (occupying old Lavaridge and some of the space above and around it on the mountain), Central Lavaridge (occupying a sizeable area between Upper and Lower) and Lower Lavaridge (occupying old Fallarbor and some of the space below and around it on the mountain) when referring to certain sections of the city).
2. The Fiery Path now contains Pokemon at a game-equivalent level of 50-60, due to unexplained events a few years ago that caused a lot of the Pokemon there to level up rapidly, and resulted in the population of weaker Pokemon to be all but annihilated. And by “unexplained”, I mean “I can’t be bothered to make it up, so go nuts on the conspiracy theories”.
3. The person occupying the Old Lady’s Rest Stop as of current is a pretty cool guy. More elaboration in my next post.]

[Jagged Pass is now Fiery Path. Kay.]
[Could be a Death Mountain sort of deal. The heat simply pushes the weaker creatures out of the area. If it’s like this, then any trainers attempting to pass in there might need some sort of Goron’s Tunic protection against the heat.]

I spin the egg around, trying to see if there’s any part I missed. Nope. It’s just brownish-red with and orange-red star.
Okay…so…brownish-red pokemon. Kangaskhan?…no, there’d be a white patch for the pouch…Bibarel?…probably not…Staryu? It’s got a star on it…but that’s not the shape of the gem…Mankey?…nah, they’re more white than brown.
“OH!” I look over to see another trainer walking swiftly towards me, clad head-to-toe in pokemon gear. Pokemon T-shirt, pokemon pants, pokemon backpack. The works.
He stands next to the table, rapidly flipping through a small book. “I recognize that egg!”

[People haven’t been posting recently. Humm. Also, I’m going to post the words of Pokemon in italics if they haven’t been taught to speak English yet. I should note now that humans have no trouble understanding Pokemon in the cartoon, and vice versa, so I’m going to assume the same applies here. Regardless, I’m not posting ‘Nin, niiiin’ to represent my guy’s speech for the next fifty pages.]

Time has passed again, and I’m being shaken awake by the Sandshrew I’ve been travelling with. It’s still dark, though… why would it want to get moving now, of all-
I realise with a shock that the darkness isn’t due to a lack of sunlight.
Unwilling to discover the truth, I reluctantly poke my head out of my leaf pile, to the sight of a human towering over the both of us.
‘Woah, man. Didn’t expect to find either of these two types here…’ .
…okay. Stay calm, Nincada… the Sandshrew’s fairly strong. He’ll help, I hope. I turn to the aforementioned Sandshrew.
‘…why are you looking at me?’
‘Because you’re the strongest Pokemon here. So you can beat the human in a fight…’
A slight pause.
‘…not in the job description. Sorry.’
My so-called escort promptly burrows underground. I try to follow, but find dirt being kicked into my face for several seconds, and then only solid ground.
‘You coward! Get back up here and defend me, like everyone else told you to!’
‘Damn, you sound really angry, little guy. It’s okay, I’m not gonna hurt you… c’mere…’ .
Oh dear sweet Arceus he’s trying to pick me up oh crap oh crap oh crap and I’m sure I should have burrowed after the Sandshrew why did that not occur to me AAAAAGH WHY’D HE HAVE TO TURN INTO THE SUN.
‘Whoops, sorry!’ The human exclaims, covering my eyes with one hand, and holding in the palm of the other. Ah, much better… but jeez, his hands are huge! I never realised how massive humans actually were compared to me… I mean, I’m probably about a quarter of his height, give or take a few centimetres, but he just seems to be ridiculously strong compared to me.
‘Hey. You alright, little buddy?’ he asks.
‘WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME. JUST USE A POKEBALL OR SOMETHING.’
‘Uh, no man. That’s not how I roll. I’m a lover, not a fighter.’ .
‘WHAT IS THAT MEANT TO MEAN?!’
‘Not what you think it means. I meant that I don’t catch Pokemon… apparently, you do, though.’ .
He leans down and picks up the Pokeball I’ve been carrying with me (oh jeez he moved his hand again MY EYES), then looks at it for a moment.
’Where’d you get this, little guy? Escape from a trainer or something?’ .
‘Not quite. And it’s not mine, either.’
‘Ohh, so you’re returning it somewhere, then…’ .
‘…I guess?’
‘Alright, man, that’s cool… hey, you want a place to bunk? I got this great house nearby…’ .
‘Uh. I actually need to get somewhere…’
‘Nah, man, I’m sure a day or so won’t hurt whatever. You can’t stay out in this sunlight, I know. Come on, I can give you some wicked pokeblocks… or poffins, you like poffins?’ .
‘…I occasionally partake in both.’
‘Great! This is gonna be awesome, I know it!’ .
And with that, myself and the strange pokeball are carried into the house of some random human who lives outside Lavaridge City for some reason. Yeah, that doesn’t sound completely horrifying a concept.

The guy facepalms, then extends his hand to me. “Right! Sorry! I’m Adam!”
“Tom.” I say, shaking his hand.
“I just, I’m really enthusiastic about pokemon, and I saw your egg, and I remembered that I saw it in this book.” He holds the book out open.
“It’s a Chimchar egg, right?”
I accept the book, and take a moment to examine the page. “A…Chimchar?” It definitely looks like the egg. Let’s see…it’s a…fire chimp. Huh.
Adam’s face falls at the prospect of being wrong. “Oh…it’s not a chimchar? I guess that makes sense, they’re pretty rare.”
I shrug and hand the book back. “It could be. I wasn’t told what it is when I got it.”
At this point, the nurse walks up with a tray. “Excuse me, your pokemon are healed.”
I smile, and take back my pokeballs. “Thanks!”
“Well, my pokemon are still being healed, but I’ll see you around here!” With that, Adam wanders off to another group.
Right…it’s getting into the evening. I’ll stay the night here and challenge the leader in the morning. For right now though, I need to introduce myself to that Poochyena.

I sigh. “Ugh, this trip is taking forever!” I complain. “Well it’s not exactly easy to drive a boat.” Soren replies. “Just… go play with your Pokémon or something.” He waves his hand dismissively. “That’s the problem! I don’t know where they went! Probably Jonathan is just stuck in a wall somewhere, and Jessica is trying to get him out.” I sigh again and go look for them.
