The Time Machine. It appeared out of the blue one day, but it was always destined to. Once in a while, this machine appears, gathering people. They are gathered, and one by one, they are kicked out based on their successes in the time periods they visit. Erwin Marshall in the year 2012 became Igor the Terrible. Without time travel, we would not have had a Jesus Christ, or an Attila the Hun, or a Fred Astaire. However, if you ever encounter one of these people, they will inevitably speak of wonder, of curiosity, wondering what the last man standing received as a reward for his contribution to humankind. Time is a downward stream, but time travel cannot alter history. Time travel merely causes what was already there. All events altered by time travel have already happened, and the men who altered it will be there soon.

Current Prompt: Find the Time Machine! (Page 1)

Flag Post

A lone man sat on the inside of a time machine. Images fluttered about him like baby butterflies. Each of these a moment in time, waiting to be visited. Holes in history yet to be filled. He pities the working class, for his job would seem like heaven to them. In reality, they are as unsuited for his line of work as he is to theirs. Despite the inlaid intricacies of guarding this wondrous piece of technology, the real moment he has always been waiting for is the one about to occur. He grinned, for he knew he was about to be the escort of a select group of individuals. A group whose fate intertwines with the very history of mankind itself. It was time to go find them. No, he thought. It was time for THEM to find me.

Prompt 1: Find the Time Machine
Time: Present Day
What: Make a Story about how you came across the time machine. Don’t worry about what happens once you get inside, I’ll take care of that.

However long you want. I’d suggest a couple paragraphs, there’s no rule saying you can’t make it shorter or longer.

Ahem. Just got back from an audition. Anyways,
1. Post your stories in the thread.
@BC, no, not necessarily. Just make sure you end your stories once you enter the machine, I’ll take care of describing what it looks like and whatnot.

I found the time machine by reading the paper. Every day I read the paper looking for something fun and exciting to do. I found the time machine. Come and join us through the ages it said. Sounds fun? So I went down to the location and asked for a ride. So here I am at the terminal (Ill just call it that) waiting for my application to be accepted.

*IT* The time machine, what a story to tell. Well, it all started with my house that me and my family were moving in to. I knew there was something not so right, and I found out a few days later. The house. It's a converted farmhouse with all the fields and everything. The house itself isn't the odd bit but it was a little odd, with the placement of the pictures. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now on with the fields/odd bit. So my mum told us all too go and explore the fields, and tell her and dad if we found anything interesting and boy did I! So we all went on our different ways, my sister went left into what looked like just plain fields, my brother went straight on into what looked like loads of different paths. And me I wished I'd never done this, I went right, into forest. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I ventured into the forest and kept my eyes peeled to see if I could see anything, I found nothing for what seemed like a few hours. After getting to the end of the forest I made my way back, but just as I was about to walk down the same path as last time, I noticed out of the corner of my eye, another path. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I thought to myself I'll walk down that path. Then I noticed that there was a sign that said "PLEASE DON'T GO DOWN THIS PATH, PLEASE DON'T LET THEM TAKE YOU AWAY, PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T DO IT!" I wish I hadn't ignored the sign. I proceeded to go down the path, I saw nothing for a while. Then noticed that it was some how getting brighter and brighter as I ventured down the track. Then I saw another sign. It read "PLEASE, PLEASE RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY WHILE YOU CAN!" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But I still ignored the sign and proceeded down what seemed like an endless path, eventually I got too the end of the track. Where I was met by a terrible light source of what looked like a portal, it was open so I knew that there was another portal that would place me wherever it lead too. I couldn't see through the portal. So I walked through the portal. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And that story explains why I'm here with all these other people. I wish I hadn't walked through the portal, I wish I knew where I was, I wish I could get out, I wish I knew who these people are.

Destiny

A world lay before me. A giant world, perfect placement, temperature, and all the necessary conditions for life. What a wonderful haven to behold, it is. A wondrous world, with endless potential. Pristine greenery as far as the eye can see. The world’s species develop unhindered, no greed or jealousy. The entire world progresses in synchronization as if a single entity forging forth to seek a greater good. Everywhere you go, you feel a sense of belonging, a sense of love, a sense of ambition.

But no, that world was not to be. One man. One single man had the power to destroy the world. The hopes of 10 billion and the heroes that had passed. Everyone had worked in unity. Everything was perfect. All destroyed in the blink of an eye. The twisted laughter is ringing everywhere. Every street, every shop. Not that there were any shops. They were just makeshift strongholds for the resistance. Too little too late. It couldn’t stop the raging power of the Maelstrom. One second when the Maelstrom hit, everything was gone. The courage to describe such a scene is hard to muster.

As the Maelstrom Bomb reaches the edge of the sky, I knew the glimmering light of the Sun was never to be seen again, to be lost in the sands of time, only to exist as a faint memory in the hearts of those… Then, forever gone. Eternally engulfed by darkness – the darkness that foreshadows as the light can only be assumed be still shining on the underside of the horizon.

" NO! I WILL NOT LET THIS HAPPEN. OUR CIVILIZATION HAS BEEN WORKING FOR 100 000 YEARS AND THESE ARE THE FRUITS OF THEIR LABOUR. I WILL NOT LET THIS SLIP OUT OF OUR HANDS SO EASILY. RIGHTEOUSNESS WILL OVERCOME WHAT TWISTED THOUGHTS THIS MAN HAS. THAT IS WHAT WE LEARN IN RELIGION, AND WE BELIEVE IT. TIME TO TAKE MATTERS INTO MY OWN HANDS. "

{I prayed silently in the incessant gunfire for a way to overturn this madness}

And my prayer was answered, suddenly a time machine, glistening silver, appeared before me. It stunned everyone who was already used to almost eternal twilight-level of luminosity. They were disoriented just long enough for me to manage into the chamber. My adrenal glands were pumping, and I readied myself.

Let the adventure begin

“Honey, wake up.” My wife’s voice was inviting, but also seemed to have some sense of urgency to it. Without opening my eyes, I rolled over and put my arm around her. “Ssh honey, go back to sleep.” I whispered, still having a massive headache from last night. That was one wild night. “Wake up now, Bob.” Her voice seemed almost… pissed off this time. Opening my eyes very slightly, I take a moment to admire my wife’s luxurious, long, brown hair before wording my response. However, that response gets caught in my throat when I realise my wife’s hair is short and blonde.

I awake with a start, bolting upright to look at the person next to me. That is not my wife. I look around the room and find my wife, dressed in a shirt and jeans combo that she seems to have just thrown on. She’s standing at the door, with a bag beside her, and a pissed off look on her face. “You cheating bastard.” When those words come out of her mouth, my sluggish, sleep-deprived, hangover-filled brain realises exactly what it’s done.

“My god. I’m sorry. I was drunk, I don’t remem-” My words are cut short by her response. “Shut up. You cheated on me, whether you like it or not. Now you’re leaving. I’ve packed your stuff. Get dressed right now before I kick your ass. Your clothes for today are in the living room. Your gun is with them. Your ammo is in your suitcase, at the top. If you point that gun at me, I will kill you.” The words were delivered with a cold tone I hadn’t heard before. I was in no mood to argue. I headed downstairs to get dressed.

As I got dressed, my mind was racing. Dribs and drabs of last night were coming back to me, and all manner of emotions were flooding through my mind. Anger. Sorrow. Regret. Most of all, however, a deep sense that I had betrayed her, and that I deserved this punishment. I could hear my wife shouting at the random girl, and her trying to apologise. The woman I slept with ran downstairs and left shortly afterwards. I went upstairs to get my suitcase. My wife threw my car keys at me, and I left the house.

I knew immediately what I was going to do. With no house, only a suitcase full of possesions, and a divorce, if not an anullment, almost certainly on the cards, I drove to the woods near my house. It would only take a moment, to escape this cursed life. Maybe I was still slightly drunk. Maybe the hangover was affecting me. All I know is, I wanted it to end. My life. I found the woods. I got out, walked to a deserted spot, and pulled out my handgun. I opened the suitcase, and loaded the gun. But before I could end my life, I saw a bright, shining light, and some kind of machine. The door was open. Without thinking, I dropped the gun and ran into it.
