I just went through the learning curve of programming in flash after being away from programming for the last 10 years or so. I’d really recommend starting with AS2 if you’re new to programming before you tackle AS3. AS2 might not be as powerful, but I think it’s a little more intuitive for a newbie. Once you really understand how the language works and what makes flash different from Java, etc you can move up to AS3. I think I’ll use AS3 for my second game.
Yeah, I have a lot of OOP experience as well (C++ with the Win32API, JAVA, and VB.NET) so I’ll be looking forward to playing with AS3 after the semester is over. I won’t be looking at AS3 now because I wrote something in C++ one day and then switched to AS2 the next dayand I had to pause for a little to shake off the C++ way of thinking. I don’t think adding AS3 to the mix right now would be a good idea.
