I was working on something at the very beginning of the contest, but the computer I was working on kind of had issues and I couldn’t get the files back. I have it as of yesterday though. I don’t care to call it an entry since I’m a bit embarrassed about how it looks atm. I had planned to go much further with it. But here’s what I had.

It was supposed to be a little cartoony (shapes and angles of buildings) and a lot futuristic (blue lights and flying triangles).

Last thing I was working on was the cars and I didn’t even slightly begin to optimize anything, so don’t be too harsh on fps/mem. Can’t even remember if I’m deleting the car objects as they go off screen.

Haha. You easily could have scared off a lot of competition by posting your awesome work so early. I’m not sure if how I imagine my finished project would be able to compete with yours. Even if I felt that way, I would have kept on trucking since I WAS enjoying it, but I could see how it might be deterring some. I say next time you’re breaking out the big guns (nicely polished ones too), just wait til the last moment. Same goes for other entries. Just my two cents. And in case I wasn’t clear up there, I really like your work, Aaants.

Jexia, yours is really nice. I really like the effects. However, I really love Mario’s too. It’s a hard decision. :l

Well, Senekis and UG also have some here, so that’s at least 5 total really.

Mario: that’s really cool, perhaps you could try without drawing the lines on the edges of the buildings.

Aants: that’s great! looking forward to seeing your filter settings etc.

Idea is similar to Mario’s, but mine is just bare bones with no details and more “mathy” and strict. I just wanted to see how it would look. Next steps would be to add some gradient in background (fell asleep while reading about gradients and matrix and missed the deadline :) ) and then add some windows with glow effect. Also stop rendering buildings out of frame.

I’m now reading through Aaants’s tutorial about gradients and other effects and trying to finish this just to learn some new stuff. I’m a bit lazy person though, so I’m not sure I will finish. :)

By the way, Aaants, your tutorial is really nice. Much better than what I was reading before. No sleeping yet. :)

Cool, definitely has potential :). I guess that’s actual 3D and not pseudo 3D?

If you (or anyone else for that matter) make anything useful with the tutorial I’d be happy to add it to a landscape generator project if you don’t mind

Thinking about some glowing windows, but my processor is afraid of that. We are working for a compromise now. Also thinking what to do with the “street”. I may add some stars later and have some more ideas about the moon, but I don’t know how it will turn out at the end.

Buildings are all some math combined with moveTo(), beginFill(), lineTo() and endFill(). I also used some cheats in deciding which walls to draw and to draw buildings from back to front and from sides to middle “street”, so I can avoid dealing with depth stuff.
