There is no actual tech support forum here, so I will turn to the next best place.

My laptop fan runs moderately fast and produces slightly noticeable sound while idle, but the instant I start a game or high-CPU/GPU usage program the fan suddenly becomes silent. The expected behaviors are switched. Its not like it sounds like the fan is going to explode, but it is noticeable that a fan is on. Any idea why this might be happening?

I don’t do hardware much but it might be worth a shot to take a can of compressed CO2 and blow the dust out.

If it was a desktop I’d say open it up and see if something is touching a fan and give it a good blow with the CO2.

Install a fan speed monitoring program and see what it’s actually running at. You can likely reset the cycling as well if it’s not working correctly.

Also, grab a CPU temperature monitoring program. Then you can see if your fan is preforming well enough or not.

I thought this would be a topic with a question from a fan of a certain game, haha.

All of my cores hover around 108F-113F while idle (110F below TjMax). For some idiotic reason, all of the fan programs I have downloaded say that my Ivy Bridge isn’t giving a fan speed. I dunno, it is just weird. I would be more worried if my fans weren’t working properly during intense CPU usage. I’m not so sure that the issue is the performance of my fan.

100F? You’re fine.
When you start seeing 100C then you have a problem.
