This is the theme selection thread for the third edition of the PGGC (procedurally generated graphics contest).
The main idea is to create an application which procedurally (with a semi-random algorithm) builds an image or scene (static or animated) which fits the selected theme.
You can read the whole set of rules here.
Please suggest themes; voting will start in a couple of days.
Suggested themes:
Aliens
Eldricht creatures
Functional Circuits
Hairstyles for Gaga
Internal Electronics / Microchips
Island
Moon
Mountain range
Planet
Plants
Rivers
Skeletons
Sky
Solar system
Thunderstorm

I might have a go at this one. I’ve followed it so far and it’s really interesting. Plus, the themes and art are always very practical for use as backgrounds in games, so being able to make randomly generated art like this is a useful skill to have.
Theme ideas:
The moon (Like planet but more specific)
Microchips/Internal electronics (Always makes for interesting abstract art)
Thunderstorm

The sky and everything in it.
Plants. Yeah, not planets. Plants.
Eldritch creatures. Or maybe aliens.
New hairstyles that Lady Gaga might actually use.

functioning circuits: perhaps with a specific goal, perhaps not (harder version of microchips)

Yes. One is fine if you don’t like the rest.

Internal Electronics / Microchips
Functional Circuits
And a downvote for Mountain Ranges. The diamond-square algorithim is retardedly simplistic and produces amazing results. It’s still being used today for various procedural landscape generation needs.

I know deadlines are historically quite flexible in the PGGC contests, but when is PGGC #3 scheduled to start and how long do you expect it to last?

At this time, “Planet” is in the lead, with a tie between “Solar System” and “Island” for second place.
Anyone who really wants something else and hasn’t voted, now’s the time to do so. :)

The next GiTD starts on the 27th. I’d like this to end before that.
It’ll start in half a day or so.
