Short Term Goals

is are my new year’s resolution. Maybe a thread where we can check up daily on each other’s short term goals would help us all out a bit.

• 1. Goals: All Completed
• Finish my GiTD game’s Game Design Document by tomorrow.
• Research my GiTD game’s topic (mining) to make it educational by tomorrow
• Collaborate with an artist to complete my GiTD game on time by Sunday.
• Actually code the GiTD game by Sunday
• Post a prototype in the GiTD thread by tomorrow. [completed after deadline]
• 2. Goals: In Progress
• Work with artist to get some art for my GiTD entry and see where that goes by Friday (11th).
• Work with my team to finish up Sky Jumper entirely and put it up for sponsorship by next Wednesday (16th).

UG, are you going to make more short term goals as the year progresses?

My goals are to start and finish my GiTD entry.
And to hopefully start/progress with/finish something else before I get swamped with school work again.

I absolutely need to finish my GiTD in time. I was runner up in my first one and I’ve been unable to complete a GiTD since then.
Once that’s done, I plan to finish my shooter by the end of the month, it has so much potential and I’ve been working on it for far too long.

That’s fine. ;) I debated a good 2 minutes with is or are. I put is because it was a sentence fragment in my opinion and not the whole thing. I wanted the title to be “Short Term Goals” and not something like I’m setting short term goals. However, I think you would be correct in both circumstances.

How short term is “short term”?

My current goals for the year:
Move to a quiter place, if possible, and actually unpack
OGaM (incl. GiTD and PlayerIO’s MO contest, if I can manage it)
One Song a Month — not an official thing like OGaM: not incl. game soundtracks (for the most part)
[Subsequent goals are dependent upon successful completion of parts of above goals]

I would consider short term anything within a month’s time, preferably under a week or two.

Attempts to induce rage failed. Looks like my goal isn’t complete yet.

Hm… my short term goals are:
- Have a server running Linux to host files and run a mumble channel.
- Make some contributions to the Ubuntu kernal or shell in C.
- Try and learn more AS3.

I am SO pro.

Long term goals:

• Enter the University
• Complete at least 12 games for #1GAM
• Have one game get sponsorship
• Finish a good collab game!

Short term goals:

• Finish GiTD#28 game
• Decide a name for the game
• Define the mechanics for an action-puzzle-platformer
• Make a platforming engine using Nape
• Going Hindsight on my GiTD#28 entry, going to keep the same mechanics, add some shooting and destruction, removing a bunch of particle effects with sprites

Held Back Goals:

• Plan the next game (CCG (based of a starcraft2 custom game The Card Game) JRPG) temporary until my artist has enough art
• Read these procrastination

Well I’ve finished my Game Design Doc (mostly, of course it will always be a work in progress when you explore the depths of your game and tweaking things) and I’ve researched my game’s topic. I’ve also found a reputable artist to work with last night who should be able to make the art in time for GiTD.

So I’ve finished all my goals listed. My new ones are:

• Actually code the GiTD game by Sunday
• Post a prototype in the GiTD thread by tomorrow.

Short term goal: Finish my current project prototype and post it on FastSwf to find a graphic artist. The TODO list right now:
- Title page
- Settings window
- Save/Load
- Clock context coloring
- Redoing the solver.
- Ship bank IDing
- Time trial mode
(- Kong API)

Goals completed:

• Finish GiTD#28 game
• Decide a name for the game

New goal:

• Read these

UG, you need to focus more on game design. You’ve got the mad programming skills but unless you learn some design, your games don’t look like they’re going anywhere anytime soon. Not trying to be rude, I’m only trying to help.

Sure, I can see some room for improvements in design. We’ve been working hard on that for the last game or three. And certainly the play counts and sell amounts are a good indicator that they (of course only the released ones) are doing, at least, pretty good.

If you’d like I can send you some our games during development for some design feedback.

A whole year isn’t exactly a short-term thing, but if these are only your short term goals, how ambitious of you!
